Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a woman came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and, after praising the beauty and elegance of her daughter, said that she had dedicated her daughter to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I accept." While praising her, the woman happened to say that her daughter had never suffered from a headache nor had she ever been ill. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then I have no need of your daughter."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: "There is a person among you (the Prophet himself is better than you) who is present while you are reciting the Book of Allah, and the red and white, Arabs and non-Arabs, all are present among you. Soon a time will come upon the people when they will rattle like utensils rattle; they will take their reward immediately and will not save anything for the Hereafter."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Such people will come to you whose hearts will be even softer than yours." Accordingly, once the Ash'aris came, among whom was Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) as well. When they reached near Madinah Munawwarah, they began to recite rajaz poetry: "Tomorrow we will meet our friends, that is, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions." Upon reaching there, they shook hands, and these were the very people who established the practice of shaking hands first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever performs forty prayers in my mosque in such a way that not a single prayer is missed, for him is written freedom from Hell, salvation from punishment, and exemption from hypocrisy.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The supplication made between the call to prayer (Adhan) and the commencement (Iqamah) is not rejected, so make supplication at that time.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever asks for Paradise three times, Paradise itself says, "O Allah! Admit this servant into me." And whoever seeks refuge from Hell three times, Hell itself says, "O Allah! Save this servant from me."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I went with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to visit Zaid bin Arqam, whose eyesight had gone. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Zaid! Tell me, if your eyes are taken away from you from where they were given, what will you do?" He replied, "I will be patient and hope for reward." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If your eyesight is taken away and you are patient over it and hope for reward, then you will meet Allah in such a state that there will be no sin upon you."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes be in prayer, but due to the crying of a child, he would shorten the prayer for the sake of the child's mother.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever wishes that Allah increases his provision and extends his life, he should maintain the ties of kinship.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing eight rak'ahs of Duha prayer while on a journey, and after completing the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have performed a prayer of longing and fear. I asked my Lord for three things; He granted me two and withheld one. I requested that my Ummah not be destroyed by famine, and Allah accepted it. I requested that the enemy not be given complete dominance over them, and Allah accepted that as well. Then I presented the third request that they not be divided into different sects, but Allah did not grant this."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was sitting in the gathering of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man passed by. Someone among those sitting said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I love this person." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Have you informed him of this?" He replied, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then go and tell him." So that man stood up and went to him and said, "Brother! I love you for the sake of Allah." He replied, "May He for whose sake you love me, love you in return."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that once during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), prices increased, so the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) requested, "Please fix prices for us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The one who sets prices and fixes rates is Allah alone. I wish that when I depart from you, none of you should have any claim against me regarding any injustice to his wealth or life."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while one of his noble wives was with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called that man by his name and said, "O so-and-so! This is my wife." The man said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I could never think such a thing about you, though I might think it about anyone else." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Satan flows through a person like blood."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that whoever has three daughters or sisters, and he takes responsibility for them and fears Allah regarding their matters, he will be with me in Paradise. Saying this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with four fingers.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! Forgive the Ansar, the children of the Ansar, the wives of the Ansar, and the descendants of the Ansar. The Ansar are my group and my protection. If people were walking on one path and the Ansar on another, I would choose the path of the Ansar. And if there had been no migration, I would have been one of the Ansar.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that Allah Almighty says: When I take away the eyesight of a person and he remains patient over it, I will grant him Paradise as a reward for it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Allah created disease, He also created its cure, so seek treatment.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) has superiority over other women just as tharid has superiority over other foods."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade looting and said: Whoever commits looting is not one of us.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade mixing dates and raisins, or unripe and ripe dates together (to make nabidh).

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of scholars on the earth is like that of stars in the sky, by which guidance is obtained in the darkness of land and sea. If the stars lose their light, the travelers on the path will go astray.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the hair of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not extend beyond his ears.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: To set out for jihad in the way of Allah in the morning or evening is better than the world and whatever is in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: To strive in the path of Allah for a morning or an evening is better than the world and whatever is in it, and the place of your bow or whip in Paradise is better than the world and whatever is in it. And if a woman of Paradise were to look down upon the earth, the space between them would be filled with fragrance and its scent would spread, and the scarf on her head is better than the world and whatever is in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that you people commit such deeds which, in your eyes, are of less value than a hair, but we used to consider them, during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), among the destructive things.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a silk robe to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). When Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) met him, he said, "You have sent me a silk robe, even though regarding it you have said what you have said?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I did not send it to you to wear. I only sent it so that you may sell it or derive some other benefit from it."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him): Whoever meets Allah in such a state that he does not associate anyone with Him, he will enter Paradise. He (Mu'adh) said, "O Messenger of Allah! Should I not give this glad tidings to the people?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "No, I fear that they will rely on it and become complacent."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that someone advised the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to go to (the chief of the hypocrites) Abdullah bin Ubayy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out riding his donkey, and the Muslims also set out on foot with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The ground was soft. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached him, he said, "Stay away from me, the smell of your donkey is troubling me." Upon this, an Ansari said, "By Allah! The donkey of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is more fragrant than you." Then, a man from the people of Abdullah bin Ubayy became angry on his behalf, and then a wave of anger and resentment spread among the companions of both sides, and it came to the point of fighting with branches, hands, and shoes. We learned that this verse was revealed about them: "If two groups of Muslims fight each other, then make peace between them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that we conquered Makkah, then we fought the battle of Hunayn. The polytheists came with such good formation as I had never seen before. First, the cavalry formed ranks, then the foot soldiers behind them, then the women formed ranks, then the goats were lined up, and then the camels were arranged in rows. We were many people, and our number had reached six thousand, and on one side, the cavalry was under the command of Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him). Then our horsemen began to take refuge behind our backs, and not much time had passed when our horses were exposed and the villagers fled, and those people whom we knew also fled. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called out, "O Muhajireen! O Muhajireen!" Then he said, "O Ansar, O Ansar!" Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that this hadith is from my uncles. We said, "Labbaik, O Messenger of Allah!" Then you (peace and blessings be upon him) advanced, and by Allah, we had not even reached when Allah defeated them. Then we took possession of the spoils, then we proceeded towards Ta’if and besieged it for forty days, then we returned towards Makkah and camped there. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to give each person one hundred camels. Seeing this, the Ansar began to talk among themselves that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is giving to those people who fought against him, and those who did not fight against him are not being given anything. This news reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he gathered them in a tent and said, "O group of Ansar, what is this that has reached me from you?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what has reached you?" This happened twice. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O group of Ansar, are you not pleased that people take the world and you return to your homes with Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) among you?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are pleased." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If people walk in one valley and the Ansar walk in another valley, I will choose the valley of the Ansar." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are pleased." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Be happy."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not one who abused, cursed, or spoke indecently. Even at the time of reprimand, he would only say: "What is wrong with him, may his forehead be dusted."

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that we offered prayer with the Prophet (peace be upon him) in such a manner that if any one of you were to pray like that today, you would criticize him. Upon hearing this, Shareek and Muslim bin Abi Numran said to him, "Why don't you tell this to our governor?" At that time, Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) was the governor of Madinah. He replied, "I have already done that."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was sitting in a circle with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and a man was standing and offering prayer. After bowing and prostrating, when he sat in Tashahhud, he recited this supplication: (اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْحَنَّانُ بَدِيعَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ ) "O Allah! I ask You because all praise is for You alone, there is no deity except You, the Most Compassionate, the Originator of the heavens and the earth without any precedent, the Possessor of Majesty and Honor. O Ever-Living, O Sustainer! I ask You alone." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you know what supplication he made?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, he has supplicated to Allah by His Greatest Name, which, when He is supplicated by it, He surely answers, and when He is asked by it, He surely gives."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was sitting in a gathering with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came and greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the other people. Everyone replied to him. When he sat down, he said: "All praise is due to Allah, abundant, pure, and blessed praise, as our Lord loves and as is befitting for Him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "What did you say?" He repeated these words. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I saw ten angels hastening towards it, as to who would write it first, but they did not know how much reward to write for these words. So they asked Allah, and Allah said, 'Write it as My servant has said it.'"

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command marriage and strongly prohibit turning away from it, and he used to say: Marry loving and child-bearing women, for I will boast of your numbers before the other prophets (peace be upon them) on the Day of Resurrection.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a household among the Ansar who had a camel used for carrying water. One day, the camel became very unruly and did not allow anyone to ride it. They came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "We had a camel on which we used to bring water, but today it has become so wild that it does not let us ride it at all. Our fields and gardens are drying up." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Get up," and set out with them. When he reached there and entered the garden, he saw that the camel was in a corner. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked towards it. Seeing this, the Ansar said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! It has become like a wild dog. We fear it may attack you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "It will not harm me." When the camel saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it came to him and knelt down before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held it by its forehead, and it became even more obedient than before, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put it back to work. Seeing this, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! If this unintelligent animal can prostrate to you, then we, being intelligent, have even more right to prostrate to you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "It is not permissible for any human to prostrate to another human. If it were permissible, I would have ordered a woman to prostrate to her husband, for his right over her is greater." By Him in Whose hand is my soul, if a man's whole body, from the soles of his feet to the parting of his hair, were covered with sores and blood and pus flowed from them, and his wife came and licked them, even then she would not have fulfilled his right. Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that once we were taken with forty Ansari men to Abdul Malik in Syria so that he could fix our stipend. On the way back, when we reached Faj al-Naqah, he led us in two rak'ahs of Asr prayer, then after saying salam, he went to his tent. The people stood up and began to pray two more rak'ahs. Seeing this, Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "May Allah disfigure these faces! By Allah, they neither acted upon the Sunnah nor accepted the concession. I bear witness that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Some people will go to extremes in religion and will leave the religion just as an arrow leaves the prey."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him): "Select one of your children for us who can serve me." Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) seated me behind him and set off, and I became the servant of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Wherever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would stay, I would often hear him say: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from worry, grief, helplessness, laziness, miserliness, cowardice, the burden of debts, and the overpowering of people." I remained the constant servant of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). On one occasion, when we were returning from Khaybar, Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was also with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had chosen. I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would make a screen behind him with a sheet or cloak and then seat her behind him. When we reached the place of Sahya, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made halwa and spread it on the dining cloth, then sent me, and I brought many people. All of them ate that halwa, which was actually the wedding feast (walima) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set off, and when the Uhud mountain came into view, he said: "This mountain loves us and we love it." Then, when we approached Madinah, he said: "O Allah! I declare the area between its two mountains sacred, just as Ibrahim (peace be upon him) declared Makkah sacred. O Allah! Bless their sa’ and mudd (measures of food)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to attack a people, he would not attack at night but would wait until morning. If he heard the sound of the call to prayer (adhan) from there, he would refrain; otherwise, he would attack.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the last prayer which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed with the people was while wrapped in a cloth, and he prayed behind Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would return from a journey and his eyes would fall upon the walls of Madinah, he would dismount from his ride, and if he remained on the ride, he would hasten its pace out of love for Madinah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the wind would blow, signs of fear could clearly be seen on the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
