Musnad Ahmad

Abdullah bin Abi Rafi’, who was the scribe of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), says that Marwan, in his absence, used to appoint Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy over Madinah Munawwarah. Once, he appointed him as his deputy, so the Friday prayer was also led by Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and in it, he recited Surah Munafiqun. After the prayer, I started walking alongside him. On the way, I asked him, “O Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), did you also recite the same two Surahs that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite?” He replied, “In fact, my beloved! Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these very two Surahs.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever offers the funeral prayer of a Muslim with faith and the intention of reward will receive a reward equal to one qirat, and whoever waits until the burial is completed will receive a reward equal to two qirats, each of which is as great as the mountain of Uhud.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of a person who gives a gift to someone and then takes it back is like that of a dog who eats until it is full, then vomits, and then starts eating its vomit again.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every prophet has a supplication that is certainly accepted, and I have reserved my supplication for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.

Muhammad bin Ziyad says that once Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by some people who were performing ablution. Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Perform ablution thoroughly, for I heard Abul Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Woe to the heels from the fire of Hell.'"

Muhammad bin Ziyad says that sometimes Marwan would appoint Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy over Madinah. He would kick him with his foot and say, "Make way, the leader has come, the leader has come." And Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) said that whoever, out of arrogance, drags his lower garment on the ground while walking, Allah will not look at him with mercy.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard Abul Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Fast upon sighting the moon and celebrate Eid upon sighting the moon. If the moon is not visible and the sky is cloudy, then complete the count to thirty."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wear both shoes or take off both. When any one of you puts on shoes, he should start with the right foot, and when he takes them off, he should take off the left foot first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a servant among you takes care of preparing food for you, then he should make him sit with him and feed him as well. If he cannot do so, then he should give him one or two morsels.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever buys a goat whose udder has been tied (as a deception), then he should either keep the animal with himself (and resolve the matter) or return the animal to its owner and along with it give one sa’ of dates.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the honorable wife of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), was previously named Barrah. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed her name to Zainab.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah As-Sajdah and Surah Ad-Dahr in the Fajr prayer on Friday.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever frees a slave, Allah will free every limb of the one who frees the slave from Hell in exchange for every limb of that slave.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Allah has written for every human being his share of adultery.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Hospitality is for three days, and whatever (is given) after that is charity.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a servant gives charity from lawful wealth, Allah—Who accepts only what is lawful—accepts it and takes it in His right hand. And just as one of you raises and nurtures his young goat, likewise Allah nurtures and increases it, until a single date grows in the hand of Allah to become as large as a mountain.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Some people will become accustomed to asking questions until they begin to ask: Allah created all of creation, then who created Allah?

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu al-Qasim, the Prophet of repentance (peace and blessings be upon him), said: Whoever accuses his slave of an act from which he is innocent, the prescribed punishment for that act will be carried out upon him on the Day of Resurrection, unless the slave is as his master has said.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that someone asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Who is the most honorable person among the people?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "The one who is the most pious." The companions said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we are not asking you this." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then Yusuf (peace be upon him) is the most honorable, who is a prophet, son of a prophet, son of a prophet, son of the Friend of Allah." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we are not asking you this either." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then you are asking about the lineages of the Arabs? Among them, those who were the best in the time of ignorance are the best in Islam as well, provided they gain understanding of the religion."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Protect yourself from oppression, for on the Day of Resurrection, oppression will appear as darkness in the presence of Allah. And protect yourself from foul speech, for Allah does not like obscene words and deeds. And protect yourself from miserliness, for it was miserliness that invited those before you, and they considered the forbidden as lawful, shed blood, and broke ties of kinship.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If any of you has a slave-girl who commits adultery and her crime is proven, then give her the punishment of lashes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Protect yourself from oppression... then the narrator mentioned the complete hadith.

Yahya al-Qattan narrated to us, from Ibn ‘Ajlan, he said: Sa‘id narrated to us, from Abu Hurayrah, he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Beware of oppression," and he mentioned the hadith.

Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Umawi narrated to us, he said: 'Ubaydullah narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Abi Sa'id, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If the servant-girl of one of you commits adultery..." — and he mentioned the meaning of the hadith, meaning as narrated by Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan, from 'Ubaydullah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to demand his camel. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted that they could not find a camel of the required age; every camel was older than that. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then give him a camel of greater age." The Bedouin said, "You have paid me in full, may Allah grant you in full." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The best among you is the one who is best in repaying debts."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person who has been responsible (ruler) over even just ten people will be brought on the Day of Judgment bound in chains. Then either his justice will rescue him, or his oppression and tyranny will destroy him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: There are two practices from the time of ignorance which people will never abandon: one is wailing (over the dead) and the other is casting aspersions on someone's lineage.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet said: When any one of you leaves his house for my mosque, one step writes a good deed for him and the other step erases his sins.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The lightest punishment in Hell will be for the person who will be made to wear shoes of fire, due to which his brain will boil like a cauldron.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you were to know what I know, you would begin to weep much and laugh little.

It is narrated marfu‘an from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that there is no zakat on a Muslim's horse and slave.

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: O women of Islam! Let not any neighbor consider insignificant the gift sent by her neighbor, even if it is only a hoof of a goat.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the sound of a child crying during prayer, so he shortened his prayer (so that the child's mother would not be distressed).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever unjustly seizes a piece of land belonging to someone else, on the Day of Resurrection, a collar made from that piece, from seven earths, will be placed around his neck.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Those people who gather in a place for a meeting but do not remember Allah in it, it will be a cause of regret for them on the Day of Resurrection. And any person who walks on a path but does not remember Allah while walking, that walking too will be a cause of regret for him on the Day of Resurrection. And any person who comes to his bed but does not remember Allah, that too will be a cause of regret for him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade making two transactions in one sale and wearing two types of clothing, and that is: that a person sits wrapped in a single garment with nothing covering his private parts, and that a person wraps himself in his lower garment while performing prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Saying "Subhan Allah" to remind the imam is for men, and clapping is for women.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: A woman should not be married together with her paternal aunt or her maternal aunt.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once someone asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Which woman is the best?" He replied, "The woman who, when her husband looks at her, pleases him; when he commands her, she obeys him; and regarding herself and his wealth, she does not oppose her husband in anything he dislikes."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding snakes: Since we started fighting them, we have never made peace with them. Whoever leaves them out of fear is not from us.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you wakes up at night and then returns to his bed, he should dust his bed with the edge of his lower garment, for he does not know what may have come onto his bed after him. Then he should say: O Allah, by Your name I lay my side on the ground, and by Your name I rise. If You take my soul, then forgive it, and if You send it back, then protect it as You protect Your righteous servants.
