Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A man set out to visit his religious brother who lived in another town. Allah appointed an angel on his way. When he passed by the angel, the angel asked him, "Where are you going?" He replied, "I am going to meet such-and-such a man." The angel asked, "Is there any kinship between you two?" He said, "No." The angel asked, "Has he done any favor to you which you are repaying?" He said, "No." The angel asked, "Then why are you going to him?" He said, "I love him for the sake of Allah's pleasure." The angel said, "I have been sent to you by Allah as a messenger to inform you that because of your love for him, Allah loves you."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The greatest liars are dyers and goldsmiths.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: If Allah grants someone wealth and property without him asking for it, he should accept it, because it is sustenance that Allah has sent to him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: Whoever closes the door of his house will be safe, and whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan will also be safe.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Paradise has one hundred levels, and between each two levels is a distance of one hundred years.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a slave obeys both Allah and his master, he receives double reward for every deed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Remember frequently the destroyer of pleasures—death.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are some signs of hypocrites by which they are recognized: their greeting consists of words of curse, their food is obtained by plundering, their spoils of war are acquired through dishonesty, they remain near the mosques yet are far (from them), even when coming for prayer they turn their backs to it, they are arrogant, they do not befriend anyone nor does anyone befriend them, at night there is the sound of bamboo and during the day there is noise and commotion.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once some people asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Is there any difficulty in seeing the sun when there are no clouds in between?" The people said, "No, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then you will see your Lord in the same way. Allah will gather the people on the Day of Resurrection and will say: 'Whoever used to worship something, let him follow it.' So whoever used to worship the sun will follow it, and whoever used to worship the moon will follow it, and whoever used to worship idols and devils will follow them. Only the hypocrites of this Ummah will remain. Allah will come to them in a form which they do not recognize and will say, 'I am your Lord.' They will say, 'We seek refuge in Allah from you. We will stay here until our Lord comes. When our Lord comes, we will recognize Him.' Then Allah will come to them in a form which they recognize and will say, 'I am your Lord.' They will reply, 'Indeed, You are our Lord.' Then all will follow Him, and a bridge (Sirat) will be set up over the back of Hell. The first to cross it will be the Messengers. On that day, no one will be allowed to speak except the Messengers, and the words of the Messengers on that day will be, 'O Allah, grant safety, grant safety.' In Hell, there will be thorns like the thorny bush called Sa'dan. Have you seen the thorns of Sa'dan?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "They will be like the thorns of Sa'dan. No one knows their size except Allah. People will be caught according to their deeds. Some believers will be saved because of their (good) deeds, and some will be recompensed for their deeds, and some will cross the bridge and be saved. Until, when Allah has finished judging between His servants and, by His mercy, wills to take out from Hell whomever He wishes among those who did not associate anything with Allah, and upon whom Allah has mercy, and who used to say 'La ilaha illallah,' the angels will recognize such people by the mark of prostration on their faces. Allah has forbidden the Fire to consume the mark of prostration on a human being. Then those people will be brought out with burnt bodies, and then the water of life will be poured over them, so they will grow fresh as a seed grows out of the mud. Then one man will remain whose face will be towards Hell, and he will say, 'O my Lord, turn my face away from Hell, for its stench has harmed me and its heat has burnt me.' He will keep supplicating, then Allah will turn to him and say, 'If I grant you this, will you ask for anything else?' He will say, 'By Your honor, I will not ask for anything else.' So Allah will turn his face away from Hell (and towards Paradise). Then he will say, 'O my Lord, bring me to the gate of Paradise.' Allah will say, 'Did you not promise Me that you would not ask for anything else?' Alas, son of Adam, you are very treacherous in promises. He will keep asking Allah until the Lord will say, 'If I grant you this, will you ask for anything else?' He will say, 'No, by Your honor, I will not ask for anything else.' Allah will take from him whatever promises He wills, according to the firmness of the new promise, and will place him at the gate of Paradise. When he stands there, all of Paradise will be visible to him, with all its comforts and joys. He will remain silent as long as Allah wills, then he will say, 'O my Lord, admit me into Paradise.' Allah will say, 'Did you not promise Me that you would not ask for anything else after this?' He will say, 'O my Lord, do not make me the most wretched of Your creation.' He will keep asking Allah in this way until Allah will smile. When Allah will smile, He will say, 'Enter Paradise.'"

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent ten men as a reconnaissance party and appointed Asim bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) as their leader. Thus, they set out as scouts. When they reached the place of Hadda, which is between Asfan and Makkah, the tribe of Hudhail, i.e., Banu Lihyan, became aware of them, and a hundred archers set out after them. When they reached the place where the scouts had sat and eaten dates—which they had brought from Madinah as provisions—they said, "These are dates from Madinah." Then, because of the traces of the dates, they followed them. When Hazrat Asim and his companions saw the disbelievers, they took refuge on a high place. The disbelievers surrounded them from all sides and said, "Come down and surrender yourselves to us. We promise that we will not kill anyone." The leader of the group, Hazrat Asim (may Allah be pleased with him), replied, "By Allah, today I will not come down into the protection of a disbeliever. O Allah, inform our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of our situation." When the disbelievers heard this, they shot arrows at them and martyred seven men, including Asim. The remaining three men—Khubaib Ansari, Zaid bin Dathina, and another person—accepted the promise and came under the protection of the disbelievers. When the disbelievers gained control over them, they removed the strings from their bows and tied them up tightly. The third man among them said, "This is the first breach of promise. By Allah, I will not go with you. I must follow the path of these martyrs." The disbelievers tried to drag him along and made every effort to take him, but he did not go. In the end, they killed him. Khubaib and Ibn Dathina were taken away, and after the incident of Badr, both were sold. Khubaib was bought by the descendants of Harith bin Amir. On the day of the Battle of Badr, Khubaib had killed Harith bin Amir. In any case, Khubaib remained imprisoned with them. The daughter of Harith narrates that when all the disbelievers gathered to kill Khubaib, he asked me for a razor to groom himself, and I gave it to him. Khubaib seated one of my sons on his thigh. I was not aware of this until I came to him and saw that my son was sitting on his thigh and the razor was in his hand, so I became anxious. Khubaib noticed the fear on my face and said, "Do you fear that I will kill him? By Allah, I will not do so." The daughter of Harith says, "By Allah, I have never seen a better captive than Khubaib. By Allah, one day I saw him, though he was bound in chains, holding a bunch of grapes in his hand and eating from it, even though there was no fruit in Makkah at that time. In reality, it was a provision granted by Allah to Khubaib." When the disbelievers took Khubaib out of the Haram to the area of Hill to kill him, before being killed, Khubaib said, "Let me go so that I may perform two rak'ahs of prayer." The disbelievers let him go. Khubaib performed two rak'ahs and then said, "If I did not think that you would assume I was afraid of death, I would have prolonged the prayer." Then he said, "O Allah, destroy them all, do not leave a single one of them." After this, he recited these verses: "If I am killed in the state of Islam, then I do not care on which side I fall in Allah's path. My being killed is for Allah's cause, and if Allah wills, He will bless the severed limbs." After this, the son of Harith killed Khubaib. Hazrat Khubaib was the first Muslim who established the practice of performing two rak'ahs of prayer for every Muslim who is captured and killed in the path of Allah. The supplication that Hazrat Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) made at the time of his martyrdom was accepted by Allah, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of their martyrdom, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described the hardships of Asim and others to the companions (may Allah be pleased with them). Since Hazrat Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) had killed a great leader of the Quraysh disbelievers on the day of Badr, the disbelievers sent some people to bring back some sign of Asim so that he could be identified by it. But some bees (wasps) protected the body of Hazrat Asim (may Allah be pleased with him), and the disbelievers could not cut any flesh from his body.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I went with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to a funeral. When I was walking at my own pace, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go ahead of me. Then when I started running, I would get ahead. Suddenly, my eyes fell on a man at my side, so I thought in my heart, "By the friend Abraham! The earth is folded up for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade placing hands on the waist during prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Mercy is a part of the Most Merciful, which will come on the Day of Resurrection and will say: 'O Lord, I was broken, I was wronged, O Lord, I was treated badly.'"

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), when I see you, my heart becomes cool and my eyes find peace. Please tell me the origin of everything?" The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Everything has been created from water." I submitted, "Tell me something that if I hold on to it, I will enter Paradise?" The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Spread peace, feed food, maintain ties of kinship, and stand in prayer at night when people are sleeping, and you will enter Paradise in peace."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The people of Paradise will enter Paradise in such a way that their bodies will be free of hair, they will be young, fair-complexioned, with curly hair and eyes with kohl, their age will be thirty-three years, and they will be in the form and appearance of Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him), sixty cubits tall and seven cubits wide.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade letting the garment hang in prayer in such a way that it is not on the form of the body and there is nothing to prevent it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The souls of humans are like assembled troops; so those souls which become acquainted with one another develop affection among themselves, and those which do not become acquainted develop differences among themselves.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has two wives and inclines towards one over the other (acts unjustly), he will come on the Day of Resurrection dragging the side of his body that is fallen (paralyzed).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Near the Day of Judgment, the Beast of the Earth (Dabbat al-Ard) will emerge, with the staff of Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) and the ring of Hazrat Sulaiman (peace be upon him). It will mark the nose of the disbeliever with the ring and will brighten the face of the believer with the staff, until people will gather at one table and will call each other, "O believer" and "O disbeliever."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you wakes up at night and then comes to his bed, he should dust his bed with the edge of his lower garment, for he does not know what may have come onto it after him. Then he should say: O Allah, by Your name I lay my side on the ground, and by Your name I will raise it. If You take my soul, then forgive it, and if You send it back, then protect it as You protect Your righteous servants.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever does not thank people, does not thank Allah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah looked down upon the people of Badr from the heavens and said, "Do whatever you wish, I have forgiven you."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A man was walking in the wilderness when he heard a voice coming from a cloud saying, "Water the garden of so-and-so." Upon this command, the cloud moved to one side and poured its water onto a rocky place. The man reached that spot and saw that there were some channels, and one of those channels collected all the water. The man followed the water and, walking along, reached a man who was standing in his garden, directing the water here and there. He said to him, "O servant of Allah, what is your name?" He told him his name, and it was the same name that he had heard in the voice from the cloud. The man said, "O servant of Allah, why are you asking my name?" He replied, "I heard a voice in a cloud, and this water is from it, and it mentioned your name, saying, 'Water the garden of so-and-so.' Now tell me, what is it that you do (for which you have received this blessing)?" He said, "If you insist, then the matter is that I consider the produce of this garden, then I give one third in charity, one third I feed to myself and my family, and one third I reinvest in it."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever relieves a Muslim of one of the troubles of this world, Allah will relieve him of one of the troubles of the Day of Resurrection. Whoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter. And as long as a servant is engaged in helping his brother, Allah remains engaged in helping that servant.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a person is asked about any matter of knowledge and he conceals it without any valid reason, then on the Day of Resurrection a bridle of fire will be put in his mouth.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever withdraws from obedience to the leader and separates from the community and dies in that state, his death is a death of ignorance. And whoever fights under a banner without purpose (on the basis of national or linguistic prejudice), expresses anger for it, fights for it, and helps for it, and is killed, then his death is also like the death of ignorance. And whoever rebels against my Ummah, killing the righteous and the wicked alike, does not show regard for a believer, and does not fulfill the covenant with those with whom he has a covenant, then he has nothing to do with me and I have nothing to do with him.

Abu Uthman Nahdi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I was present in the service of Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) and I said, "I have heard that you say that for one good deed, a reward of up to one million good deeds can be given?" He replied, "Are you surprised at this? By Allah! I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that Allah multiplies one good deed until it becomes equal to twenty million good deeds."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The poor believers will enter Paradise five hundred years before the wealthy Muslims.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Hazrat Zakariya (peace be upon him) was a carpenter by profession.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A man commits a sin and then says, "O Lord, I have committed a sin, forgive me." Allah Almighty says: My servant has committed a sin and he knows that he has a Lord who forgives sins or punishes for them. I have forgiven My servant. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this three more times, that the servant commits a sin again and confesses as before, and Allah responds as before. On the fourth time, at the end, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that Allah Almighty says: Bear witness, I have forgiven My servant, now let him do as he wishes.

Abu Qahdham says that during the rule of Ziyad or Ibn Ziyad, a pouch was found somewhere in which there was a seed like a date pit, and it was written on it that this was grown at a time when justice and fairness were practiced.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If knowledge were to be found even at the Pleiades, some people from among the sons of Persia would surely acquire it from there."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I looked into Hell and saw that the majority of its inhabitants were women, and I looked into Paradise and saw that the majority of its inhabitants were the poor.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a sin is committed by a Muslim, a black spot appears on his heart. If he repents and seeks forgiveness, his heart becomes clean and bright again. Otherwise, as the sins increase, so do the black spots, until rust overtakes his heart, as Allah has mentioned in the Noble Qur’an with these words: "Nay! But on their hearts is the rust of that which they used to earn."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A martyr does not feel as much pain due to martyrdom as one of you feels from the bite of an ant.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that on one occasion the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said three times: "Religion is entirely sincerity (goodwill)." Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah, for whom?" He replied, "For Allah, for His Book, for His Messenger, and for the leaders of the Muslims."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the mention of a martyr was made. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the blood of the martyr does not even dry on the earth before his two heavenly wives reach him ahead of others, and they come leaping like deer who have left their young ones in some part of the earth to take shelter. Each of them has a pair (of garments) in her hand, which is better than the world and whatever is in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Having good expectations is also a part of good worship.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once someone asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Who is the best of people?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "I and my companions." He was asked, "Who after them?" He replied, "Those who will come after us." He was asked, "And after them?" So the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left it at that.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sometimes a person utters a word, considering there is no harm in it, but as a result of that single word, on the Day of Judgment, he will keep tumbling in Hell for seventy years.
