Hadith 6122
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the most beloved names to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were Abdullah and Abdur Rahman.
Hadith 6123
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Whoever drags his clothes on the ground out of arrogance, Allah Almighty will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 6124
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade taking the Noble Qur'an with oneself while traveling to the enemy's territory, because there is a fear that it may fall into the hands of the enemy.
Hadith 6125
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade people from observing continuous fasting with only one pre-dawn meal (suhoor) during the month of Ramadan. So they said, "You are forbidding us from observing continuous fasting for several days, but you yourself do it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "I am not like you; I am given food and drink by Allah."
Hadith 6126

عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ
مَنْصُورِ بْنِ الْمُعْتَمِرِ ، عَنْ
مُجَاهِدٍ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَعُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَإِذَا نَحْنُ بِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، فَجَالَسْنَاهُ ، قَالَ : فَإِذَا رِجَالٌ يُصَلُّونَ الضُّحَى ، فَقُلْنَا : يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، مَا هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةُ ؟ فَقَالَ : بِدْعَةٌ ، فَقُلْنَا لَهُ : كَمْ اعْتَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : أَرْبَعًا ، إِحْدَاهُنَّ فِي رَجَبٍ ، قَالَ : فَاسْتَحْيَيْنَا أَنْ نَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ ، قَالَ : فَسَمِعْنَا اسْتِنَانَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
عَائِشَةَ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ : يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، أَلَا تَسْمَعِي مَا يَقُولُ
أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ؟ ! يَقُولُ : اعْتَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْبَعًا ، إِحْدَاهُنَّ فِي رَجَبٍ ؟ ! فَقَالَتْ : يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَعْتَمِرْ عُمْرَةً إِلَّا وَهُوَ شَاهِدُهَا ، وَمَا اعْتَمَرَ شَيْئًا فِي رَجَبٍ .
Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I and Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah have mercy on him) entered the mosque. We reached Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and sat with him. There were some people performing the Duha prayer there. We asked him, "O Abu Abdur Rahman, what kind of prayer is this?" He replied, "It is an innovation." We asked him, "How many Umrahs did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) perform?" He replied, "Four, one of which was in Rajab." We felt shy to refute his statement, but at that moment we heard the sound of the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) using the miswak. So Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah have mercy on him) said to her, "O Mother of the Believers, did you hear what Abu Abdur Rahman is saying? He says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed four Umrahs, one of which was in Rajab." She replied, "May Allah have mercy on Abu Abdur Rahman. Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Umrah, he was present with him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform any Umrah in Rajab."
Hadith 6127

عَبِيدَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ يُدْعَى :
صَدُوعَ ، وَفِي نُسْخَةٍ : صَدَقَةَ , عَنِ
ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : اعْتَكَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ ، قَالَ : فَبُنِيَ لَهُ بَيْتٌ مِنْ سَعَفٍ ، قَالَ : فَأَخْرَجَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ ، فَقَالَ : أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، " إِنَّ الْمُصَلِّيَ إِذَا صَلَّى , فَإِنَّهُ يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى ، فَلْيَعْلَمْ بِمَا يُنَاجِيهِ وَلَا يَجْهَرْ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) observed i'tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan: a tent made of palm branches was set up for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put his head out from it and said: Whoever stands to pray is in fact supplicating to his Lord, so you should know what you are supplicating to your Lord. And do not recite aloud over one another in prayer.
Hadith 6128
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي
عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ
نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فَيُعَرِّضُ الْبَعِيرَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ " ، وقَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ : سَأَلْتُ نَافِعًا ، فَقُلْتُ : إِذَا ذَهَبَتْ الْإِبِلُ ، كَيْفَ كَانَ يَصْنَعُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ ؟ قَالَ : كَانَ يُعَرِّضُ مُؤْخِرَةَ الرَّحْلِ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would place his mount in front of him as a sutrah and would pray.
Hadith 6129
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: We are an unlettered nation; we do not know calculation. Sometimes the month is like this, like this, and like this. The third time, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, folded his thumb.
Hadith 6130

يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا
أَبِي ، عَنْ
ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي
نَافِعٌ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " غَدَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ مِنًى حِينَ صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ فِي صَبِيحَةِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ ، حَتَّى أَتَى عَرَفَةَ ، فَنَزَلَ بِنَمِرَةَ ، وَهِيَ مَنْزِلُ الْإِمَامِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَنْزِلُ بِهِ بِعَرَفَةَ ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ صَلَاةِ الظُّهْرِ ، رَاحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُهَجِّرًا ، فَجَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ ، ثُمَّ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ ، ثُمَّ رَاحَ فَوَقَفَ عَلَى الْمَوْقِفِ مِنْ عَرَفَةَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that after performing the Fajr prayer on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from Mina and, upon reaching the plain of Arafat, camped near Masjid Namirah, where nowadays the Imam comes and camps. When the time for the Zuhr prayer approached, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived at the very beginning of the time and performed the Zuhr and Asr prayers together, then delivered a sermon. After that, he left from there and proceeded to the place of standing in the plain of Arafat.
Hadith 6131

يَعْقُوبُ ، حَدَّثَنَا
أَبِي ، عَنِ
ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي
نَافِعٌ ، عَنْ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ , أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُحِبُّ إِذَا اسْتَطَاعَ ، أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الظُّهْرَ بِمِنًى مِنْ يَوْمِ التَّرْوِيَةِ ، وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ بِمِنًى " .
Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) preferred to perform the Zuhr prayer of the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah in Mina as much as possible, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also performed the Zuhr prayer in Mina on that day.
Hadith 6132

ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي
نَافِعٌ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عُمَرَ , أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " صَلَّى حِينَ أَقْبَلَ مِنْ حَجَّتِهِ قَافِلًا فِي تِلْكَ الْبَطْحَاءِ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَأَنَاخَ عَلَى بَابِ مَسْجِدِهِ ، ثُمَّ دَخَلَهُ ، فَرَكَعَ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ " ، قَالَ نَافِعٌ : فَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ كَذَلِكَ يَصْنَعُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from Hajj, he performed prayer in the valley of Batha. Then, when he entered Madinah Munawwarah, he made his she-camel sit at the door of the Prophet’s Mosque, entered the mosque, and performed two rak‘ahs there as well. After that, he went to his home. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) himself used to do the same.
Hadith 6133

ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ
سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , يَقُولُ : " أَلَا إِنَّمَا بَقَاؤُكُمْ فِيمَا سَلَفَ قَبْلَكُمْ مِنَ الْأُمَمِ كَمَا بَيْنَ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ ، أُوتِيَ أَهْلُ التَّوْرَاةِ التَّوْرَاةَ ، فَعَمِلُوا حَتَّى إِذَا انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ ، ثُمَّ عَجَزُوا ، فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ، ثُمَّ أُوتِيَ أَهْلُ الْإِنْجِيلِ الْإِنْجِيلَ ، فَعَمِلُوا إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ ، ثُمَّ عَجَزُوا ، فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ، ثُمَّ أُوتِينَا الْقُرْآنَ فَعَمِلْنَا إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ ، فَأُعْطِينَا قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابَيْنِ : أَيْ رَبَّنَا ، لِمَ أَعْطَيْتَ هَؤُلَاءِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ ، وَأَعْطَيْتَنَا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ، وَنَحْنُ كُنَّا أَكْثَرَ عَمَلًا مِنْهُمْ ؟ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ أُجُورِكُمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ؟ قَالُوا : لَا ، قَالَ : فَهُوَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying from the pulpit: The duration of your existence compared to the previous people is like the time between Asr and Maghrib. The people of the Torah were given the Torah, so they acted upon it, but at midday they became unable to continue, so each of them was given one qirat. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel, and they acted upon it until Asr, but then they too became unable to continue, so each of them was given one qirat. Then you were given the Qur’an, and you acted upon it until Maghrib, so you were given two qirats each. Upon this, the people of the Torah and the Gospel said: O Lord! These people did little work but received greater reward. Allah said: Did I wrong you in your wages in any way? They said: No. Allah said: Then I bestow My bounty upon whom I will.
Hadith 6134
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
يَعْقُوبُ ، حَدَّثَنَا
أَبِي ، عَنِ
ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي
نَافِعٌ ، عَنِ
ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ لَا يَزَالُ يُغْبَنُ فِي الْبُيُوعِ ، وَكَانَتْ فِي لِسَانِهِ لُوثَةٌ ، فَشَكَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا يَلْقَى مِنَ الْغَبْنِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا أَنْتَ بَايَعْتَ ، فَقُلْ : لَا خِلَابَةَ " ، قَالَ : يَقُولُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : فَوَاللَّهِ لَكَأَنِّي أَسْمَعُهُ يُبَايِعُ ، وَيَقُولُ : لَا خِلَابَةَ ، يُلَجْلِجُ بِلِسَانِهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that there was a man from the Ansar who used to be deceived by people in trade, and he also had a stammer in his speech. He complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the deception he faced. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you make a sale, say: "There is no deception in this sale." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: By Allah, it seems as if I am still hearing him saying "La khilabah" while making a sale, and his tongue is faltering.
Hadith 6135
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a person should sell over his brother's sale, or send his marriage proposal over his brother's marriage proposal.
Hadith 6136

عُمَرُ بْنُ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى آلِ حَاطِبٍ ، عَنْ
نَافِعٍ مَوْلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : تُوُفِّيَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ ، وَتَرَكَ ابْنَةً لَهُ مِنْ خُوَيْلَةَ بِنْتِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ الْأَوْقَصِ ، قَالَ : وَأَوْصَى إِلَى أَخِيهِ قُدَامَةَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ ، قَالَ
عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : وَهُمَا خَالَايَ ، قَالَ : فَخَطَبْتُ إِلَى قُدَامَةَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ , ابْنَةَ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ ، فَزَوَّجَنِيهَا ، وَدَخَلَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ , يَعْنِي : إِلَى أُمِّهَا ، فَأَرْغَبَهَا فِي الْمَالِ ، فَحَطَّتْ إِلَيْهِ ، وَحَطَّتْ الْجَارِيَةُ إِلَى هَوَى أُمِّهَا ، فَأَبَيَا ، حَتَّى ارْتَفَعَ أَمْرُهُمَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ قُدَامَةُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، ابْنَةُ أَخِي ، أَوْصَى بِهَا إِلَيَّ ، فَزَوَّجْتُهَا ابْنَ عَمَّتِهَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، فَلَمْ أُقَصِّرْ بِهَا فِي الصَّلَاحِ وَلَا فِي الْكَفَاءَةِ ، وَلَكِنَّهَا امْرَأَةٌ ، وَإِنَّمَا حَطَّتْ إِلَى هَوَى أُمِّهَا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هِيَ يَتِيمَةٌ ، وَلَا تُنْكَحُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهَا " ، قَالَ : فَانْتُزِعَتْ وَاللَّهِ مِنِّي بَعْدَ أَنْ مَلَكْتُهَا ، فَزَوَّجُوهَا الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, among his heirs was a daughter who was born to Khawla bint Hakim bin Umayyah bin Harithah bin Al-Awqas. He had appointed his brother, Sayyiduna Qudamah bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him), as his executor. Both of them were my maternal uncles. I sent a marriage proposal for myself to Sayyiduna Uthman's daughter through Sayyiduna Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with him), which he accepted and married her to me. Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to her mother and tempted her with wealth and riches, and she was swayed. The girl, seeing her mother's inclination, was also swayed, and both of them refused this relationship. Eventually, this matter was presented before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! She is my brother's daughter. He himself entrusted her matter to me. I married her to her paternal cousin, Abdullah bin Umar. I did not fall short in seeking a suitable match or in considering what was best and proper, but she is a woman and, seeing her mother's inclination elsewhere, is being swayed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She is an orphan girl; her marriage should not be conducted without her permission." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "By Allah, after she came into my possession, she was taken away from me and married to Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him)."
Hadith 6137

صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا
نَافِعٌ ، أَنَّ
عَبْدَ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَهُ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ : " غِفَارٌ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهَا ، وَأَسْلَمُ سَالَمَهَا اللَّهُ ، وَعُصَيَّةُ عَصَتْ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He said from the pulpit: May Allah forgive the tribe of Ghifar, may Allah keep the tribe of Aslam safe, and 'Usayyah disobeyed Allah and His Messenger.
Hadith 6138

صَالِحٍ , حَدَّثَنَا
نَافِعٌ ، أَنَّ
عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " يَدْخُلُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ الْجَنَّةَ " , قَالَ عَبْدُ الله بْنِ أَحْمَّد : قَالَ أَبِي : وحَدَّثَنَاه سَعْدٌ ، قَالَ : " يُدْخِلُ اللَّهُ أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ الْجَنَّةَ ، وَأَهْلَ النَّارِ النَّارَ ، ثُمَّ يَقُومُ مُؤَذِّنٌ بَيْنَهُمْ ، فَيَقُولُ يَا أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ ، لَا مَوْتَ ، وَيَا أَهْلَ النَّارِ ، لَا مَوْتَ ، كُلٌّ خَالِدٌ فِيمَا هُوَ فِيهِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the people of Paradise enter Paradise and the people of Hell enter Hell, a caller will proclaim: O people of Paradise! There will be no death for you here, and O people of Hell! There will be no death for you here; everyone will remain in their respective places forever.

عَبْدَ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَهُ : " أَنَّ الْمَسْجِدَ كَانَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَبْنِيًّا بِاللَّبِنِ ، وَسَقْفُهُ الْجَرِيدُ ، وَعُمُدُهُ خَشَبُ النَّخْلِ ، فَلَمْ يَزِدْ فِيهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ شَيْئًا ، وَزَادَ فِيهِ عُمَرُ ، وَبَنَاهُ عَلَى بِنَائِهِ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِاللَّبِنِ وَالْجَرِيدِ ، وَأَعَادَ عُمُدَهُ خَشَبًا ، ثُمَّ غَيَّرَهُ عُثْمَانُ ، فَزَادَ فِيهِ زِيَادَةً كَثِيرَةً ، وَبَنَى جِدَارَهُ بِالْحِجَارَةِ الْمَنْقُوشَةِ وَالْقَصَّةِ ، وَجَعَلَ عُمُدَهُ مِنْ حِجَارَةٍ مَنْقُوشَةٍ ، وَسَقْفَهُ بِالسَّاجِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Masjid Nabawi was built of unbaked bricks, its roof was covered with branches, and its pillars were made from the wood of date-palm trees. Sayyiduna Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) did not make any additions to this construction during his caliphate. Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) made some additions to its construction, but its foundation was based on the same structure as during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that is, unbaked bricks and branches, and he also had new wood installed in the pillars. Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) was the first to make changes in its structure and made many additions to it. He had its walls built with decorated stones and lime, its pillars made from decorated stones, and teak wood placed on its roof.
Hadith 6140
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that for the people of Madinah, Dhu’l-Hulayfah; for the people of Sham, Juhfah; and for the people of Najd, Qarn are the miqat. And Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that I heard these things from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Hadith 6141

ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ
عَمِّهِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا
سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ
عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : طَلَّقْتُ امْرَأَتِي وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ ، فَذَكَرَ عُمَرُ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : فَتَغَيَّظَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " لِيُرَاجِعْهَا حَتَّى تَحِيضَ حَيْضَةً مُسْتَقْبَلَةً سِوَى حَيْضَتِهَا الَّتِي طَلَّقَهَا فِيهَا ، فَإِنْ بَدَا لَهُ أَنْ يُطَلِّقَهَا ، فَلْيُطَلِّقْهَا طَاهِرًا مِنْ حَيْضَتِهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمَسَّهَا ، فَذَلِكَ الطَّلَاقُ لِلْعِدَّةِ ، كَمَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى " ، وَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ طَلَّقَهَا تَطْلِيقَةً ، فَحُسِبَتْ مِنْ طَلَاقِهَا ، وَرَاجَعَهَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ كَمَا أَمَرَهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I divorced my wife while she was in her menstrual period. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became very angry and said: Tell him to take her back, then if he wishes to divorce her, he should do so during a period of purity before having intercourse with her. This is the method of divorce according to which Allah has permitted giving divorce. Since Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) had already divorced her, it was counted, and Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) took her back according to the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: Tell me, do you want to prove him foolish and ignorant? (Why would the divorce not count?)

حَمْزَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ
عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ , يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " بَيْنَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ أُتِيتُ بِقَدَحِ لَبَنٍ ، فَشَرِبْتُ مِنْهُ ، حَتَّى إِنِّي لَأَرَى الرِّيَّ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ أَطْرَافِي ، فَأَعْطَيْتُ فَضْلِي عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ " ، فَقَالَ مَنْ حَوْلَهُ : فَمَا أَوَّلْتَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " الْعِلْمَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Once, in a dream, a bowl of milk was brought to me. I drank so much of it that milk began to come out from my fingernails. Then I gave the remainder to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What interpretation did you give to this?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Knowledge.

Hadith 6144

نَافِعٌ ، عَنْ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ الْمَسِيحَ الدَّجَّالَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى لَيْسَ بِأَعْوَرَ ، أَلَا إِنَّ الْمَسِيحَ الدَّجَّالَ أَعْوَرُ عَيْنِ الْيُمْنَى ، كَأَنَّ عَيْنَهُ عِنَبَةٌ طَافِيَةٌ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood one day and mentioned the Messiah Dajjal and said: Allah Almighty is not one-eyed. Remember, the Messiah Dajjal will be blind in his right eye, and his eye will be swollen like a grape.
Hadith 6145

صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي
نَافِعٌ ، أَنَّ
عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَهُ : قَالَ : " اطَّلَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْقَلِيبِ , بِبَدْرٍ ، ثُمَّ نَادَاهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : " يَا أَهْلَ الْقَلِيبِ ، هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا ؟ " قَالَ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَتُنَادِي نَاسًا أَمْوَاتًا ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا قُلْتُ مِنْهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and stood by the well on the day of the Battle of Badr, in which the bodies of the chiefs of Quraysh were thrown, and he began to call them, saying: "O people of the well! Did you find the promise of your Lord to be true?" Some of the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Are you calling out to the dead?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You do not hear what I am saying to them any better than they do."
Hadith 6146

يَعْقُوبُ ، حَدَّثَنِي
ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ
عَمِّهِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي
سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُهِلُّ وَهُوَ مُلَبِّدٌ ، يَقُولُ : " لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ ، وَالْمُلْكَ ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ " ، قَالَ : وسَمِعْت عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يُهِلُّ بِإِهْلَالِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَيَزِيدُ فِيهَا : لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ ، وَالْخَيْرُ فِي يَدَيْكَ ، وَالرَّغْبَاءُ إِلَيْكَ وَالْعَمَلُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting the Talbiyah with his hair gathered, saying: "Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. All praise and all blessings are for You, and sovereignty is Yours, You have no partner." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to add to this: "Here I am, here I am, I have come to serve You. All kinds of goodness are in Your hands. Here I am, all desires and actions are for You alone."
Hadith 6147
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The Jews will fight against you and you will prevail over them, to the extent that if a Jew hides beneath a stone, that stone will call out to the Muslims, saying: There is a Jew hiding beneath me, come and kill him.
Hadith 6148

يَعْقُوبُ ، حَدَّثَنَا
ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ
عَمِّهِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي
سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعِشَاءَ ، وَهِيَ الَّتِي يَدْعُو النَّاسُ الْعَتَمَةَ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ ، فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا ، فَقَالَ : " أَرَأَيْتُمْ لَيْلَتَكُمْ هَذِهِ ، فَإِنَّ رَأْسَ مِئَةِ سَنَةٍ مِنْهَا لَا يَبْقَى مِمَّنْ هُوَ الْيَوْمَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ الْأَرْضِ أَحَدٌ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once led the 'Isha prayer (in the last days of his life)—this is the same prayer which people also call "Atamah." When he had finished the prayer with salam, he stood up and said: Remember this night, for after a full hundred years from tonight, none of those who are present on the face of the earth today will remain.
Hadith 6149
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not eat several dates together without the permission of your companions.
Hadith 6150
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever drags his clothes on the ground out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 6151
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا
عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ ، عَنْ
أَنَسِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ مَعَ
ابْنِ عُمَرَ بِعَرَفَاتٍ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ حِينَ رَاحَ رُحْتُ مَعَهُ ، حَتَّى أَتَى الْإِمَامَ ، فَصَلَّى مَعَهُ الْأُولَى وَالْعَصْرَ ، ثُمَّ وَقَفَ مَعَهُ وَأَنَا وَأَصْحَابٌ لِي ، حَتَّى أَفَاضَ الْإِمَامُ فَأَفَضْنَا مَعَهُ ، حَتَّى انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى الْمَضِيقِ دُونَ الْمَأْزِمَيْنِ ، فَأَنَاخَ وَأَنَخْنَا ، وَنَحْنُ نَحْسَبُ أَنَّهُ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ ، فَقَالَ غُلَامُهُ الَّذِي يُمْسِكُ رَاحِلَتَهُ : إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ يُرِيدُ الصَّلَاةَ ، وَلَكِنَّهُ ذَكَرَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " لَمَّا انْتَهَى إِلَى هَذَا الْمَكَانِ قَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ، فَهُوَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَقْضِيَ حَاجَتَهُ .
Anas bin Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I was in the plain of Arafat with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both. When he set out, I also started walking with him. He reached the Imam and performed the Zuhr and Asr prayers together with him, then stood with him (for Wuquf). I and some of my companions also participated with them, until when the Imam departed, we also departed with him. When Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, reached a narrow path, he made his camel sit down, and we also made our camels sit down. We thought that he wanted to pray, but his servant, who was holding his mount, informed us that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, did not intend to pray. In fact, he remembered that when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, reached this place, he relieved himself. Therefore, he wished to fulfill this Sunnah as well by relieving himself.
Hadith 6152

يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا
عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ ، عَنْ
مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَنَّاقَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ مَعَ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ فِي مَجْلِسِ بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بِمَكَّةَ ، فَمَرَّ عَلَيْنَا فَتًى مُسْبِلٌ إِزَارَهُ ، فَقَالَ : هَلُمَّ يَا فَتَى ، فَأَتَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : مَنْ أَنْتَ ؟ قَالَ : أَنَا أَحَدُ بَنِي بَكْرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : أَتُحِبُّ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَارْفَعْ إِزَارَكَ إِذَنْ ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , يَقُولُ : بِأُذُنَيَّ هَاتَيْنِ ، وَأَهْوَى بِإِصْبَعَيْهِ إِلَى أُذُنَيْهِ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ لَا يُرِيدُ بِهِ إِلَّا الْخُيَلَاءَ ، لَمْ يَنْظُرْ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
Muslim bin Yanaq, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I was sitting with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, in the gathering of Banu Abdullah when a young man from the Quraysh passed by with his lower garment hanging below his ankles. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, called him and asked, "Which family do you belong to?" He said, "Banu Bakr." He said, "Do you wish that Allah looks upon you with mercy on the Day of Resurrection?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Raise your lower garment. I have heard Abu al-Qasim (the Prophet), peace and blessings be upon him, say with these two ears of mine: Whoever drags his lower garment on the ground out of pride, Allah will not look upon him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection."
Hadith 6153
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا
حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا
أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ
نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ , أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كَانَ إِذَا قَعَدَ يَتَشَهَّدُ ، وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى رُكْبَتِهِ الْيُسْرَى ، وَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى ، عَلَى رُكْبَتِهِ الْيُمْنَى ، وَعَقَدَ ثَلَاثًا وَخَمْسِينَ ، وَدَعَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat in Tashahhud, he would place his left hand on his left knee and his right hand on his right knee, and he would close the finger that indicates the number 53, and he would supplicate.
Hadith 6154
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا
أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ
يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ
مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ
ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أَعْظَمُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَلَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ الْعَمَلُ فِيهِنَّ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأَيَّامِ الْعَشْرِ ، فَأَكْثِرُوا فِيهِنَّ مِنَ التَّهْلِيلِ وَالتَّكْبِيرِ وَالتَّحْمِيدِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are no days greater in the sight of Allah, nor are righteous deeds more beloved to Him in any days than in the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. So increase in saying Tahleel, Takbeer, and Tahmeed during these days.
Hadith 6155
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer voluntary prayers on his mount, regardless of which direction it was facing, and he would gesture with his head. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to do the same.
Hadith 6156
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, once held a part of my body and said: Worship Allah as if you see Him, and live in this world as if you are a traveler or one passing by.
Hadith 6157
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "If a person becomes impure by choice, can he sleep in that state?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes! He should perform ablution and then sleep."
Hadith 6158
Matlab bin Abdullah says that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to wash the limbs of wudu three times each, and he attributed this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

ابْنِ عُمَرَ , أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " صَلَّى صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ بِإِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ، وَالطَّائِفَةُ الْأُخْرَى مُوَاجِهَةُ الْعَدُوِّ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَتْ الطَّائِفَةُ الَّتِي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَقْبَلَتْ الطَّائِفَةُ الْأُخْرَى ، فَصَلَّى بِهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ قَامَ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ ، فَرَكَعَ لِنَفْسِهِ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Salat al-Khawf (prayer of fear) in such a way that he made one group stand behind him and had them perform one bowing (ruku) and two prostrations (sujood), while the other group stood facing the enemy. Then the group that had prayed one rak’ah with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left, and the other group came. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had them also perform one bowing and two prostrations, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the salam (ended the prayer). After that, every person from both groups stood up and completed one rak’ah with two prostrations by himself.
Hadith 6160
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty accepts the servant’s repentance even before the state of agony of death overtakes him.

أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا
صَفْوَانُ ، عَنْ
شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ
الزُّبَيْرَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا غَزَا ، أَوْ سَافَرَ ، فَأَدْرَكَهُ اللَّيْلُ ، قَالَ : " يَا أَرْضُ ، رَبِّي وَرَبُّكِ اللَّهُ ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّكِ ، وَشَرِّ مَا فِيكِ ، وَشَرِّ مَا خُلِقَ فِيكِ ، وَشَرِّ مَا دَبَّ عَلَيْكِ ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ أَسَدٍ وَأَسْوَدَ ، وَحَيَّةٍ وَعَقْرَبٍ ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ سَاكِنِ الْبَلَدِ ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ وَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey or a military expedition and night would fall, he would supplicate: "O earth, my Lord and your Lord is Allah. I seek refuge in Allah from your evil, the evil within you, the evil of what has been created in you, and the evil of what walks upon you. I seek refuge in Allah from every lion and every black creature, from snakes and scorpions, from the evil of the people of the town, and from the evil of father and offspring."
