It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the two sons of Malika once came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “Our mother used to greatly honor her husband, was very kind to her children, and they also mentioned her hospitality. However, in the time of ignorance, she had buried a girl alive. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Your mother is in Hell.’ Upon hearing this, both of them turned to leave, and signs of displeasure were clearly visible on their faces. Then, by the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), both were called back. When they returned, signs of happiness could be seen on their faces, because they hoped that perhaps a new command had been revealed regarding their mother. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: ‘My mother will also be with your mother.’ A hypocrite, upon hearing this, quietly said: ‘We are following him just like that, he cannot even benefit his own mother?’ An Ansari—whom I have not seen anyone ask more questions than him—said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Has your Lord made any promise regarding this woman or those days?’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘I have neither asked my Lord about this nor has He given me any hope, but I will be granted the Maqam-e-Mahmood (the Praised Station) on the Day of Resurrection.’ That Ansari asked: ‘What is Maqam-e-Mahmood?’ He replied: ‘When on the Day of Resurrection you will all be brought forth naked, barefoot, and uncircumcised, and the first to be clothed will be Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and Allah Almighty will say: “Clothe My Khalil (friend),” so two white sheets will be brought and Ibrahim (peace be upon him) will wear them, then he will sit and face the Throne of Allah. After that, clothing will be brought for me and I will also wear it, then I will stand at a place to my right where no one else will be able to stand, and the first and the last will envy me for it. Then, from the river of Paradise, a stream will be drawn to the Pond of Kawthar.’ Upon hearing this, the hypocrites said: ‘Water always flows on soil or on small and fine pebbles.’ That Ansari asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Will that water flow on any soil or on pebbles?’ He replied: ‘Its soil will be musk and its pebbles will be pearls like silver beads.’ A hypocrite quietly said: ‘I have never heard this before today. Whenever water flows on any soil or pebbles, surely something grows there.’ Upon hearing this, the Ansari asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Will anything grow there?’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Yes! Branches of gold.’ The hypocrite again said: ‘I have never heard this before today. Where there are branches, there are also leaves and fruits.’ The Ansari asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Will there be fruits as well?’ He replied: ‘Yes! Like the colors of jewels, and the water of the Pond of Kawthar will be whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever drinks a sip from it will never feel thirsty again, and whoever is deprived of it will never be quenched.’

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took me with him somewhere. We kept walking until, when we reached a certain place, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drew a line on the ground and said to me, “Stay behind this line, do not go beyond it. If you go beyond it, you will be destroyed.” So I stayed there, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went ahead. He went as far as a stone thrown by a man could reach, or a little further. There, some people appeared who seemed to be a nation from India called “Jat.” They were not wearing any clothes, and I could not even see their private parts. Their bodies were tall and had very little flesh. They came and tried to mount the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept reciting something in front of them. They also came to me and started circling around me and trying to disturb me, which caused me to be overcome by intense fear, and I remained seated in my place. When dawn broke, those people began to leave. After a little while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also returned. At that time, he seemed very heavy and was feeling pain in his body, so he said to me, “I am feeling heavy.” Then he placed his head in my lap. Meanwhile, some other people arrived who were wearing white clothes and were also very tall. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had fallen asleep, so I was overcome by even greater fear than before. Then they began to say to each other, “This man has been granted goodness. His eyes sleep, but his heart remains awake. Come, let us give an example for him. You state the example, we will explain its interpretation, or we will state the example, you explain its interpretation.” So some of them said, “His example is like that of a chief who built a strong building, then invited people to a feast, and whoever did not attend the feast, he punished him severely.” Others explained its interpretation, saying, “The chief refers to Allah, Lord of the worlds; the building refers to Islam; the food refers to Paradise; and this is the inviter. Whoever follows him will enter Paradise, and whoever does not follow him will be subjected to punishment.” After a little while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also woke up and said, “O Ibn Umm ‘Abd! What did you see?” I replied, “I saw such and such.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Nothing of what they said was hidden or concealed from me. This was a group of angels.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The person who has even a mustard seed's weight of faith in his heart will not enter Hell, and the person who has even a mustard seed's weight of arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise." Upon hearing this, a man said: O Messenger of Allah! I like that my clothes are clean, my hair is oiled, and the strap of my sandal is new. He mentioned some other things as well, even mentioning the rope of his whip, and said: O Messenger of Allah! Is this also included in arrogance? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, this is beauty. Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance is that a person rejects the truth and looks down upon people."

Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: O Messenger of Allah! If I find such people, how should my attitude be towards them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn Umm 'Abd! There is no obedience to one who disobeys Allah." He (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this sentence three times.

Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) once arrived in Makkah with the intention of performing ‘Umrah and became the guest of Umayyah bin Khalaf Abu Safwan. It was also Umayyah’s habit that when he would pass through Madinah on his way to Syria, he would become the guest of Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him). Anyway! Umayyah said to Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), “Wait a little, when the day is fully bright and people become heedless, then you may go and perform Tawaf.” When Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) was performing Tawaf, suddenly Abu Jahl arrived and said, “Who is this person performing Tawaf of the Ka’bah?” Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “I am Sa’d.” Abu Jahl said, “You are performing Tawaf so peacefully even though you have given refuge to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions?” Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “Yes! We have given them refuge.” Upon this, a dispute started between the two. Umayyah bin Khalaf said to Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him), “Do not raise your voice over Abu’l-Hakam, that is, Abu Jahl, for he is the chief of this area.” Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “By Allah! If you stop me from performing Tawaf, I will block your trade route to Syria.” Umayyah kept insisting, “Do not raise your voice,” and kept restraining him. At this, Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry and said, “Get out of our way, for I have heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say about you that they will kill you.” Umayyah asked, “Me?” Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “Yes!” Umayyah said, “By Allah! Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) never lies.” Anyway! When they left, Umayyah went to his wife and said, “Do you know what this Yathribi said to me?” Then he told his wife the whole incident. Meanwhile, when the caller came and people began to set out for Badr, Umayyah’s wife said to him, “Do you not remember what your Yathribi friend said to you?” At this, Umayyah decided not to go, but Abu Jahl said to him, “You are a noble man of our area, come with us for a day or two.” So he went with them, and Allah caused him to be killed.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered us together, and at that time we were forty people. I was the last among them to arrive. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You people will attain victory and help. Whoever among you reaches that time, he should fear Allah, enjoin good, and forbid evil. And whoever deliberately attributes a lie to me, he should make his abode in Hell. Whoever supports and helps his tribe in something that is unjust and wrong, his example is like that of a camel which falls into a well and then tries to come out of the well by the support of its tail."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, at night, we stayed late talking at the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When we came to him in the morning, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Last night, various noble Prophets (peace be upon them) were presented before me along with their nations. So, a Prophet passed by with only three men with him, another Prophet passed by with a small group, another Prophet passed by with a group, and there was a Prophet with whom there was not even a single person. Then Musa (peace be upon him) passed by me, and with him was a very large number of the Children of Israel. Seeing this, I was amazed and I asked: Who are these people? I was told: These are your brother Musa and his people, the Children of Israel. I asked: Then where is my Ummah? I was told: Look to your right. I looked to my right and saw a mound filled with faces of people. Then I was told: Look to your left. I looked to my left and saw the horizon filled with faces of people. Then I was told: Are you pleased? I said: My Lord! I am pleased, I am happy. Then I was told: With these people, there will also be seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them): “May my parents be sacrificed for you! If you can be among the seventy thousand, then do so; if you cannot, then be among the people of the mound; and if you cannot do even that, then be among the people of the horizon, for I saw many people gathered there.” Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna ‘Ukasha bin Mihsan Asadi (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and began to ask: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Am I among them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes! You are among them.” Then another man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Am I also among them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “‘Ukasha has preceded you.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up and entered his house, and the people began to discuss who these people would be who would enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment. Some said: Perhaps they are the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Some said: Perhaps it refers to those who were born in the state of Islam and never associated partners with Allah. Others gave different opinions. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) learned of this, he said: “They are those who do not cauterize for treatment, do not seek ruqyah (incantations), do not take omens, and put their trust in their Lord.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were on a journey with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and water was not available. A vessel of water was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) put his blessed hand in it and spread his fingers open. I saw that springs of water began to flow from the fingers of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) kept saying: "Come for ablution, this is a blessing from Allah." A'mash says that Salim bin Abi Al-Ja'd told me that I asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) how many people were there that day? He replied: Our number was one and a half thousand people.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me: "Abdullah! Do you have any water?" I replied, "No." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "What is in this vessel?"
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was shown different communities, and the arrival of his own community was delayed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then my community was shown to me, and I was greatly astonished at their large numbers, for they had filled every hill and mountain. It was said to me: 'This is your community, and with them are seventy thousand people who will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment.' These are the people who do not cauterize for treatment, do not seek ruqyah (incantations), do not take omens, and place their trust in their Lord." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna 'Ukasha bin Mihsan Asadi (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He includes me among them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him. Then another man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He includes me among them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'Ukasha has preceded you."

He replied, "Yes!" A man, upon hearing this, said, "Since we have seen you sitting here, we have never seen you do this (that you assured someone in this way)?" He replied, "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'The first woman from my Ummah to meet me in Paradise will be a woman from the Quraysh.'"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that I reached Abu Jahl during the Battle of Badr and he was lying wounded, his leg had been cut off. I began to strike him with my sword, but the sword had no effect on him. I kept striking him with my sword until I killed him with it. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "Abu Jahl has been killed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Did you see him yourself?" I replied, "Yes." This question and answer happened twice. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Come with me so that I may see as well." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to his corpse. Due to the heat of the sun, his corpse had begun to rot. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Drag him and his companions and throw them into the well," and after those in the well, curses were sent upon them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He was the Pharaoh of this Ummah."
