Musnad of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 3706
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا نَغْزُو مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ شَبَابٌ ، وَلَيْسَ لَنَا نِسَاءٌ ، فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَلَا نَسْتَخْصِي ؟ فَنَهَانَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that we used to participate in battles with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); we were young and there were no women with us. Once we said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Should we not get ourselves castrated? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade us from doing so.
Hadith 3707
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا الْعَوَّامُ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " تَدُورُ رَحَى الْإِسْلَامِ عَلَى رَأْسِ خَمْسٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ ، أَوْ سِتٍّ وَثَلَاثِينَ ، أَوْ سَبْعٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ ، فَإِنْ هَلَكُوا ، فَسَبِيلُ مَنْ هَلَكَ ، وَإِنْ بَقُوا ، يَقُمْ لَهُمْ دِينُهُمْ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The mill of Islam will keep turning for thirty-five (35), thirty-six (36), or thirty-seven (37) years. After that, if the Muslims are destroyed, they will follow the path of those who were destroyed, and if they remain, their religion will remain for seventy years."
Hadith 3708
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَاصِمٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَيْثُ قُتِلَ ابْنُ النَّوَّاحَةِ : إِنَّ هَذَا وَابْنَ أُثَالٍ ، كَانَا أَتَيَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، رَسُولَيْنِ لمُسَيْلِمَةَ الْكَذَّابِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَتَشْهَدَانِ أَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ؟ " قَالَا : نَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُسَيْلِمَةَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ! ! فَقَالَ : " لَوْ كُنْتُ قَاتِلًا رَسُولًا ، لَضَرَبْتُ أَعْنَاقَكُمَا " ، قَالَ : فَجَرَتْ سُنَّةً أَنْ لَا يُقْتَلَ الرَّسُولُ ، فَأَمَّا ابْنُ أُثَالٍ ، فَكَفَانَاهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَأَمَّا هَذَا ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ ذَلِكَ فِيهِ ، حَتَّى أَمْكَنَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ الْآنَ .
Abu Wa'il says that when Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) killed Ibn Nawahah, he said: "This man and Ibn Athal had come to the Prophet (peace be upon him) as messengers from Musaylimah the Liar. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked both of them: 'Do you both testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?' They said, 'We testify that Musaylimah is the Messenger of Allah.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'If I were to kill messengers, I would have beheaded both of you.' From that time, it became customary that messengers are not killed. In any case, Allah sufficed us concerning Ibn Athal (he died), and this man remained as he was, until now Allah has given us power over him."
Hadith 3709
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّخَعِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : اضْطَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى حَصِيرٍ ، فَأَثَّرَ فِي جَنْبِهِ ، فَلَمَّا اسْتَيْقَظَ جَعَلْتُ أَمْسَحُ جَنْبَهُ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَلَا آذَنْتَنَا حَتَّى نَبْسُطَ لَكَ عَلَى الْحَصِيرِ شَيْئًا ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا لِي وَلِلدُّنْيَا ؟ مَا أَنَا وَالدُّنْيَا ؟ إِنَّمَا مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُ الدُّنْيَا كَرَاكِبٍ ظَلَّ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ ، ثُمَّ رَاحَ وَتَرَكَهَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was lying on a mat, and its marks appeared on his blessed side. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up, I began to brush his side and said: O Messenger of Allah! Why do you not allow us to spread something over this mat? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What have I to do with the world? My example and the example of the world is like that of a rider who stopped under a tree for a short while to take shade, then left it and went on his way."
Hadith 3710
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ ، عَنْ جَامِعِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ الثَّقَفِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا انْصَرَفْنَا مِنْ غَزْوَةِ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ ؟ " قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : فَقُلْتُ : أَنَا ، فقال : " إِنَّكَ تنامُ " ، ثم أعاد : " مَنْ يَحْرُسُنا اللَّيْلَةَ ؟ " فقلت : أَنَا ، حَتَّى عَادَ مِرَارًا ، قُلْتُ : أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " فَأَنْتَ إِذًا " ، قَالَ : فَحَرَسْتُهُمْ ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ وَجْهُ الصُّبْحِ ، أَدْرَكَنِي قَوْلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّكَ تَنَامُ " ، فَنِمْتُ ، فَمَا أَيْقَظَنَا إِلَّا حَرُّ الشَّمْسِ فِي ظُهُورِنَا ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَصَنَعَ كَمَا كَانَ يَصْنَعُ مِنَ الْوُضُوءِ ، وَرَكْعَتَيْ الْفَجْرِ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا الصُّبْحَ ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، لَوْ أَرَادَ أَنْ لَا تَنَامُوا عنها ، لَمْ تَنَامُوا ، وَلَكِنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ تَكُونُوا لِمَنْ بَعْدَكُمْ ، فَهَكَذَا لِمَنْ نَامَ أَوْ نَسِيَ " ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ إِنَّ نَاقَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَإِبِلَ الْقَوْمِ تَفَرَّقَتْ ، فَخَرَجَ النَّاسُ فِي طَلَبِهَا ، فَجَاءُوا بِإِبِلِهِمْ ، إِلَّا نَاقَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خُذْ هَهُنَا " ، فَأَخَذْتُ حَيْثُ قَالَ لِي ، فَوَجَدْتُ زِمَامَهَا قَدْ الْتَوَى عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ ، مَا كَانَتْ لِتَحُلَّهَا إِلَّا يَدٌ ، قَالَ : فَجِئْتُ بِهَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ نَبِيًّا ، لَقَدْ وَجَدْتُ زِمَامَهَا مُلْتَوِيًا عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ ، مَا كَانَتْ لِتَحُلَّهَا إِلَّا يَدٌ ، قَالَ : وَنَزَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُورَةُ الْفَتْحِ : إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُبِينًا سورة الفتح آية 1 .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from Hudaybiyyah at night. We camped on soft ground. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will keep watch over us? (Who will wake us up for Fajr?)" I offered myself. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What if you also fall asleep?" I replied: I will not sleep. After repeating this several times, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed me, and I began to keep watch. But when morning came, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said, "You will also fall asleep," my eyes too closed until the sun had risen. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also woke up and performed ablution and the Sunnah of Fajr as he used to do, then led us in the Fajr prayer. After finishing, he said: "If Allah had willed that you would not sleep, you would never have slept. But it was Allah's will that you become a leader for those who come after. Therefore, if anyone sleeps through the time of prayer or forgets it, he should do as you have done." The narrator says that then the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) camel and the people's camels scattered. People went out to search for them, and all the camels except the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) were found. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Go there and search." I reached the relevant place and saw that its halter was entangled in a tree, which could easily be untied by hand. I brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! By the One who sent you with the truth, I saw its halter entangled in the tree, which could easily be untied by hand. Then Surah Al-Fath was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 3711
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْحَارِثِ الْجَابِرِ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَاجِدٍ ، قَالَ : أَتَى رَجُلٌ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ بِابْنِ أَخٍ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ له : إِنَّ هَذَا ابْنُ أَخِي ، وَقَدْ شَرِبَ ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَوَّلَ حَدٍّ كَانَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ : امْرَأَةٌ سَرَقَتْ ، فَقُطِعَتْ يَدُهَا ، فَتَغَيَّرَ لِذَلِكَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَغَيُّرًا شَدِيدًا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " وَلْيَعْفُوا وَلْيَصْفَحُوا أَلا تُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ سورة النور آية 22 .
Abu Majid says that once a man brought his nephew to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "This is my nephew and he has drunk alcohol." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "On whom was the first punishment carried out in Islam?" There was a woman who had stolen, and her hand was cut off, upon which the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed color, and he said: 'They should have forgiven and overlooked. Do you not wish that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.'"
Hadith 3712
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْجُهَنِيُّ ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا أَصَابَ أَحَدًا قَطُّ هَمٌّ وَلَا حَزَنٌ ، فَقَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ ، وَابْنُ عَبْدِكَ ، وَابْنُ أَمَتِكَ ، نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ ، مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ ، عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤُكَ ، أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ ، أَوْ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ ، أَوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ ، أَوْ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ ، أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي ، وَنُورَ صَدْرِي ، وَجِلَاءَ حُزْنِي ، وَذَهَابَ هَمِّي ، إِلَّا أَذْهَبَ اللَّهُ هَمَّهُ وَحُزْنَهُ ، وَأَبْدَلَهُ مَكَانَهُ فَرَجًا " ، قَالَ : فَقِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَلَا نَتَعَلَّمُهَا ؟ فَقَالَ : " بَلَى ، يَنْبَغِي لِمَنْ سَمِعَهَا أَنْ يَتَعَلَّمَهَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is afflicted by any calamity or grief and recites these words, Allah Almighty will remove his calamity and grief and grant him happiness in its place. These words are: «اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ وَابْنُ عَبْدِكَ وَابْنُ أَمَتِكَ نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤُكَ أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ أَوْ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ أَوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ أَوْ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي وَنُورَ صَدْرِي وَجِلَاءَ حُزْنِي وَذَهَابَ هَمِّي» 'O Allah! I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever executed, and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or taught to any of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or kept with Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sorrow, and the reliever of my distress.'" Someone asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Should we learn this supplication?" He said: "Why not? Whoever hears it, it is appropriate for him to learn it."
Hadith 3713
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا شَرِيكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَذِيمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَمَّا وَقَعَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ فِي الْمَعَاصِي ، نَهَتْهُمْ عُلَمَاؤُهُمْ ، فَلَمْ يَنْتَهُوا ، فَجَالَسُوهُمْ فِي مَجَالِسِهِمْ قَالَ يَزِيدُ : أَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ : وَأَسْوَاقِهِمْ ، وَوَاكَلُوهُمْ وَشَارَبُوهُمْ ، فَضَرَبَ اللَّهُ قُلُوبَ بَعْضِهِمْ بِبَعْضٍ ، وَلَعَنَهُمْ عَلَى لِسَانِ دَاوُدَ ، وَعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ ، ذَلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوْا وَكَانُوا يَعْتَدُونَ " ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُتَّكِئًا ، فَجَلَسَ ، فَقَالَ : " لَا ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، حَتَّى تَأْطُرُوهُمْ عَلَى الْحَقِّ أَطْرًا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the Children of Israel became involved in sins, their scholars forbade them from it, but when they did not desist, even then their scholars continued to sit in their gatherings and eat and drink with them. As a result, Allah joined their hearts together and cursed them through the tongues of Dawud and 'Isa (peace be upon them), because they were disobedient and used to transgress the limits." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was narrating this hadith, he was reclining on a cushion, then he sat up straight and said: "No, by Him in Whose hand is my soul, when you do not turn the people towards the truth (then sitting, associating, and eating and drinking with them will include you among them)."

(حديث قدسي) حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ البُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ آخِرَ مَنْ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ رَجُلٌ يَمْشِي عَلَى الصِّرَاطِ ، فَيَنْكَبُّ مَرَّةً ، وَيَمْشِي مَرَّةً ، وَتَسْفَعُهُ النَّارُ مَرَّةً ، فَإِذَا جَاوَزَ الصِّرَاطَ ، الْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهَا ، فَقَالَ : تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَجَّانِي مِنْكِ ، لَقَدْ أَعْطَانِي اللَّهُ مَا لَمْ يُعْطِ أَحَدًا مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ ، قَالَ : فَتُرْفَعُ لَهُ شَجَرَةٌ ، فَيَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا ، فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَبِّ ، أَدْنِنِي مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ ، فَأَسْتَظِلَّ بِظِلِّهَا ، وَأَشْرَبَ مِنْ مَائِهَا ، فَيَقُولُ : أَيْ عَبْدِي ، فَلَعَلِّي إِنْ أَدْنَيْتُكَ مِنْهَا سَأَلْتَنِي غَيْرَهَا ، فَيَقُولُ : لَا يَا رَبِّ ، وَيُعَاهِدُ اللَّهَ أَنْ لَا يَسْأَلَهُ غَيْرَهَا ، وَالرَّبُّ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ سَيَسْأَلُهُ ، لِأَنَّهُ يَرَى مَا لَا صَبْرَ لَهُ يَعْنِي عَلَيْهِ فَيُدْنِيهِ مِنْهَا ، ثُمَّ تُرْفَعُ لَهُ شَجَرَةٌ ، وَهِيَ أَحْسَنُ مِنْهَا ، فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَبِّ أَدْنِنِي مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ ، فَأَسْتَظِلَّ بِظِلِّهَا ، وَأَشْرَبَ مِنْ مَائِهَا ، فَيَقُولُ : أَيْ عَبْدِي ، أَلَمْ تُعَاهِدْنِي ؟ يَعْنِي أَنَّكَ لَا تَسْأَلُنِي غَيْرَهَا ! فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَبِّ ، هَذِهِ لَا أَسْأَلُكَ غَيْرَهَا ، وَيُعَاهِدُهُ ، وَالرَّبُّ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ سَيَسْأَلُهُ غَيْرَهَا ، فَيُدْنِيهِ مِنْهَا ، فَتُرْفَعُ لَهُ شَجَرَةٌ عِنْدَ بَابِ الْجَنَّةِ ، هِيَ أَحْسَنُ مِنْهَا ، فَيَقُولُ : رَبِّ أَدْنِنِي مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ ، أَسْتَظِلُّ بِظِلِّهَا ، وَأَشْرَبُ مِنْ مَائِهَا ، فَيَقُولُ : أَيْ عَبْدِي ، أَلَمْ تُعَاهِدْنِي أَنْ لَا تَسْأَلَنِي غَيْرَهَا ؟ ! فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَبِّ ، هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةُ ، لَا أَسْأَلُكَ غَيْرَهَا ، وَيُعَاهِدُهُ ، وَالرَّبُّ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ سَيَسْأَلُهُ غَيْرَهَا ، لِأَنَّهُ يَرَى مَا لَا صَبْرَ لَهُ عَلَيْهَا ، فَيُدْنِيهِ مِنْهَا ، فَيَسْمَعُ أَصْوَاتَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ، فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَبِّ ، الْجَنَّةَ ، الْجَنَّةَ ، فَيَقُولُ : يا عَبْدِي ، أَلَمْ تُعَاهِدْنِي أَنَّكَ لَا تَسْأَلُنِي غَيْرَهَا ؟ ! فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَبِّ أَدْخِلْنِي الْجَنَّةَ ، قَالَ : فَيَقُولُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : مَا يَصْرِينِي مِنْكَ ، أَيْ عَبْدِي ؟ أَيُرْضِيكَ أَنْ أُعْطِيَكَ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ الدُّنْيَا وَمِثْلَهَا مَعَهَا ؟ قَالَ : فَيَقُولُ : أَتَهْزَأُ بِي ، وَأَنْتَ رَبُّ الْعِزَّةِ " ، قَالَ : فَضَحِكَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَلَا تَسْأَلُونِي لِمَ ضَحِكْتُ ؟ قَالُوا لَهُ : لِمَ ضَحِكْتَ ؟ قَالَ : لِضَحِكِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَا تَسْأَلُونِي لِمَ ضَحِكْتُ ؟ " قَالُوا : لِمَ ضَحِكْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " لِضَحِكِ الرَّبِّ ، حِينَ قَالَ : أَتَهْزَأُ بِي ، وَأَنْتَ رَبُّ الْعِزَّةِ ؟ ! " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The last person to enter Paradise will be a man who, while crossing the Bridge (Sirat), will sometimes fall face down, sometimes start walking, and sometimes the flames of the Fire will scorch him. When he has crossed the Bridge, he will look back at it and say, 'Blessed is the One Who has saved me from you. Allah has granted me a blessing that He has not given to anyone among the first or the last.' Then his eyes will fall upon a tree that has been brought there for him, and seeing it, he will say, 'O Lord! Bring me near to this tree so that I may enjoy its shade and drink its water.' Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'O My servant! If I bring you near to this tree, will you ask Me for anything else?' He will say, 'No, my Lord!' and will promise not to ask for anything else, although Allah knows that he will ask for more, for he will see things before him that he cannot bear to be patient over. Nevertheless, he will be brought near to that tree. After a while, his eyes will fall upon a tree even more beautiful than the first, and as before, there will be a similar exchange. Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'O servant! Did you not promise Me that you would not ask for anything else besides this?' He will say, 'My Lord! Just this time, and I will not ask for anything else.' After this happens three times, he will reach near the gate of Paradise, and the voices of the people of Paradise will reach his ears. He will say, 'My Lord! Grant me entry into Paradise.' Allah, the Exalted, will say to him, 'O servant! What will free Me from you? Will you be pleased if I give you in Paradise the like of the world and as much again with it?' He will say, 'My Lord! Are You, the Lord of Might and Majesty, mocking me?' At this point, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) laughed so much that his molar teeth became visible. Then he said, 'Why do you not ask me why I laughed?' The people said, 'Please tell us yourself why you laughed.' He said, 'Because of the laughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also smiled at this point and said to us, "Why do you not ask me why I smiled?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "O Messenger of Allah! Please tell us yourself why you smiled." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Because of the laughter of the Lord, when he said, 'My Lord! Are You, the Lord of Might and Majesty, mocking me?'"
Hadith 3715
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي شُعْبَةُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْكَنُودِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " نَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ خَاتَمِ الذَّهَبِ ، أَوْ حَلَقَةِ الذَّهَبِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade us from (wearing) gold rings or signet rings.
Hadith 3716
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " حَبَسُونَا عَنْ صَلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى حَتَّى غَابَتْ الشَّمْسُ ، مَلَأَ اللَّهُ بُطُونَهُمْ وَقُبُورَهُمْ نَارًا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Battle of the Trench, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah fill their houses and graves with fire, for they did not let us perform the Asr prayer until the sun had set."
Hadith 3717
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا يَمْنَعَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ أَذَانُ بِلَالٍ مِنْ سَحُورِهِ ، فَإِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا يُنَادِي أَوْ قَالَ : يُؤَذِّنُ لِيَرْجِعَ قَائِمُكُمْ ، وَيُنَبِّهَ نَائِمَكُمْ ، لَيْسَ أَنْ يَقُولَ هَكَذَا ، وَلَكِنْ حَتَّى يَقُولَ هَكَذَا " ، وَضَمَّ ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ أَبُو عَمْرٍو أَصَابِعَهُ ، وَصَوَّبَهَا ، وَفَتَحَ مَا بَيْنَ أُصْبُعَيْهِ السَّبَّابَتَيْنِ ، يَعْنِي الْفَجْرَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let not Bilal's call to prayer prevent you from eating the pre-dawn meal (suhoor), for he gives the call to prayer early so that those who are standing in prayer may return and those who are sleeping may wake up (and eat suhoor). True dawn does not appear like this"—the narrator joined his hands and raised them—"rather, it appears like this," and the narrator separated his index fingers to demonstrate.
Hadith 3718
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " الْمَرْءُ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person will be with whom he loves on the Day of Resurrection."
Hadith 3719
(حديث مرفوع) حَدّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأََحْوَصِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، قَالَ : إِِنَّ نَاسًا سَأََلُُوا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَاحِبٍ لَهُمْ يَكْوِي نَفْسَهُ ، قَالَ : فَسَكَتَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ : " ارْضِفُوهُ ، أَحْرِِقُوهُ " ، قَالَ : وَكَرِِهَ ذَلِكَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would often recite «سُبْحَنَكَ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْلِيْ», and when Surah Nasr was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he began to say: «سُبْحَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِكَ اللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ» "O Allah! Forgive me, for You are indeed the Acceptor of repentance, the Most Merciful."
Hadith 3720
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ مِمَّا يُكْثِرُ أَنْ يَقُولَ : " سُبْحَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِكَ ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي " ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ : إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ سورة النصر آية 1 ، قَالَ : " سُبْحَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِكَ ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the Khutbah al-Hajah in this way: «الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ نَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ وَنَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللّٰهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ» "All praise is due to Allah, we seek help from Him and ask forgiveness from Him, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own selves. Whomever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomever He lets go astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger." Then he would recite the following three verses: «﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ﴾ [آل عمران : 102]» "O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims," «﴿يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالًا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَاءً وَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ الَّذِي تَسَاءَلُونَ بِهِ وَالْأَرْحَامَ إِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا﴾ [النساء : 1]» "O mankind! Fear your Lord, who created you from a single soul and created from it its mate and spread from both many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, an Observer," «﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلًا سَدِيدًا o يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللّٰهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا﴾ [الأحزاب : 70-71]» "O you who believe! Fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. He will amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great success." After this, he would mention his need and supplicate.
Hadith 3721
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " عَلَّمَنَا خُطْبَةَ الْحَاجَةِ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ، نَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ ، وَنَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا ، مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللَّهُ ، فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ ، فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ " ، ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ ثَلَاثَ آيَاتٍ : يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ سورة آل عمران آية 102 ، يَأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَاءً وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي تَسَاءَلُونَ بِهِ وَالأَرْحَامَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا سورة النساء آية 1 ، يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلا سَدِيدًا يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا سورة الأحزاب آية 70 - 71 ، ثُمَّ تَذْكُرُ حَاجَتَكَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، وَأَبِي الأحْوَص ، قَالَ : وَهَذَا حَدِيثُ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : عَلَّمَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، خُطْبَتَيْنِ : خُطْبَةَ الْحَاجَةِ ، وَخُطْبَةَ الصَّلَاةِ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ، أَوْ إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ لِلَّهِ نَسْتَعِينُهُ . . . فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ .
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 3722
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَاجِدٌ وَحَوْلَهُ نَاسٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ، إِذْ جَاءَ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ بِسَلَى جَزُورٍ ، فَقَذَفَهُ عَلَى ظَهْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمْ يَرْفَعْ رَأْسَهُ ، فَجَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ ، فَأَخَذَتْهُ مِنْ ظَهْرِهِ ، وَدَعَتْ عَلَى مَنْ صَنَعَ ذَلِكَ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ عَلَيْكَ الْمَلَأَ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ : أَبَا جَهْلِ بْنَ هِشَامٍ ، وَعُتْبَةَ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ ، وَشَيْبَةَ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ ، وَعُقْبَةَ بْنَ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ ، وَأُمَيَّةَ بْنَ خَلَفٍ ، أَوْ أُبَيَّ بْنَ خَلَفٍ ، شُعْبَةُ الشَّاكُّ ، قَالَ : فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُمْ قُتِلُوا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ ، فَأُلْقُوا فِي بِئْرٍ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّ أُمَيَّةَ أَوْ أُبَيًّا تَقَطَّعَتْ أَوْصَالُهُ ، فَلَمْ يُلْقَ فِي الْبِئْرِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was in prostration, and some people from the Quraysh were present on his right and left. Meanwhile, 'Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt brought the entrails of a camel and placed them on the back of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), due to which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) could not raise his head. When Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) found out, she quickly came and removed it from the back of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and threw it far away, and began to curse those who had committed this filthy act. After finishing the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Allah! Seize these leaders of the Quraysh." Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I saw all of them killed at the Battle of Badr and they were dragged and thrown into a well, except for Umayyah, whose limbs had been cut off, so he was not thrown into the well.
Hadith 3723
حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ . . . فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : عَمْرَو بْنَ هِشَامٍ ، وَأُمَيَّةَ بْنَ خَلَفٍ ، وَزَادَ : وَعِمَارَةَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ .
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain, and in it, the name of 'Ammarah bin Waleed is also added.
Hadith 3724
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّزَّالِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا يَقْرَأُ آيَةً ، وَسَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيْرَهَا ، فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَوْ عَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْكَرَاهِيَةَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كِلَاكُمَا مُحْسِنٌ ، إِنَّ مَنْ قَبْلَكُمْ اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ فَأَهْلَكَهُمْ " ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : وَحَدَّثَنِي مِسْعَرٌ عَنْهُ ، وَرَفَعَهُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَلَا تَخْتَلِفُوا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I heard a person reciting a verse of the Noble Qur'an. I had heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recite it in a different way, so I took him to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mentioned this matter. Upon hearing this, the color of the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) changed, or I noticed signs of displeasure on his blessed face, and he said, "Both of you are correct. Those before you were destroyed because of their disagreements, so do not differ."
Hadith 3725
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : لَا تَصْلُحُ سَفْقَتَانِ فِي سَفْقَةٍ ، وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَعَنَ اللَّهُ آكِلَ الرِّبَا ، وَمُوكِلَهُ ، وَشَاهِدَهُ ، وَكَاتِبَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that it is not permissible to make two transactions in one transaction, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The curse of Allah is upon the one who consumes usury, the one who gives it, the one who witnesses the usurious transaction, and the one who records it."
Hadith 3726
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : وَأَحْسِبُهُ قَدْ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَثَلُ الَّذِي يُعِينُ عَشِيرَتَهُ عَلَى غَيْرِ الْحَقِّ ، مَثَلُ الْبَعِيرِ رُدِّيَ فِي بِئْرٍ ، فَهُوَ يَمُدُّ بِذَنَبِهِ " .
It is narrated, most likely as a marfu’ hadith, from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that whoever supports and assists his people in something that is unjust and wrong, his example is like that of a camel which falls into a well, and then tries to get out of the well by relying on its tail.
Hadith 3727
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " لَا يَزَالُ الرَّجُلُ يَصْدُقُ ، وَيَتَحَرَّى الصِّدْقَ ، حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ صِدِّيقًا ، وَلَا يَزَالُ يَكْذِبُ ، وَيَتَحَرَّى الْكَذِبَ ، حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ كَذَّابًا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person continues to speak the truth and strives to be truthful until he is recorded with Allah as a 'Siddiq' (truthful one), and a person continues to lie and seeks ways to lie until he is recorded with Allah as a 'Kadhdhab' (liar)."
Hadith 3728
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ هُنَيِّ بْنِ نُوَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " أَعَفُّ النَّاسِ قِتْلَةً أَهْلُ الْإِيمَانِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In matters of killing, the people of faith are the most chaste and possess the best conduct among all people."
Hadith 3729

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ نَاجِيَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " تَدُورُ رَحَى الْإِسْلَامِ بِخَمْسٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ ، أَوْ سِتٍّ وَثَلَاثِينَ ، أَوْ سَبْعٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ ، فَإِنْ يَهْلَكُوا ، فَسَبِيلُ مَنْ قَدْ هَلَكَ ، وَإِنْ يَقُمْ لَهُمْ دِينُهُمْ ، يَقُمْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِينَ عَامًا " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : أَمِمَّا مَضَى أَمْ مِمَّا بَقِيَ ؟ قَالَ : " مِمَّا بَقِيَ " .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The mill of Islam will keep turning for thirty-five (35), thirty-six (36), or thirty-seven (37) years. After that, if the Muslims are destroyed, they will follow the path of those who were destroyed. And if they remain, their religion will last for seventy years." The narrator asked whether this pertains to the days of the past or the future. He replied: "To the future."
Hadith 3731
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ نَاجِيَةَ الْكَاهِلِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . . . مِثْلَهُ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا مَضَى ، أَمْ مَا بَقِيَ ؟ ، قَالَ : " مَا بَقِيَ " .
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain, however, there is this addition that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Those who have passed away or those who remain? He replied: "Those who remain."
Hadith 3732
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَكَ أَنْ تَرْفَعَ الْحِجَابَ ، وَتَسْمَعَ سِوَادِي ، حَتَّى أَنْهَاكَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said to me: "I give you permission on my behalf to lift the curtain of my house and come inside, and to listen to my confidential matters, until I myself forbid you."
Hadith 3733
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عِيَاضٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ " أَحَبَّ الْعُرَاقِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، الذِّرَاعُ ، ذِرَاعُ الشَّاةِ ، وَكَانَ قَدْ سُمَّ فِي الذِّرَاعِ ، وَكَانَ يَرَى أَنَّ الْيَهُودَ هُمْ سَمُّوهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) preferred the meat of the foreleg of a goat among the meats with bones, and it was the meat of the foreleg in which poison was mixed and given to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to eat, and the general belief was that it was the Jews who had mixed poison in the food of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Hadith 3734
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْجَابِرُ أَبُو الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيُّ ، أَنَّ أَبَا مَاجدٍ ، رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي حَنِيفَةَ حَدَّثَهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ : سَأَلْنَا نَبِيَّنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ السَّيْرِ بِالْجِنَازَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " السَّيْرُ مَا دُونَ الْخَبَبِ ، فَإِنْ يَكُ خَيْرًا تُعْجَلْ إِلَيْهِ أَوْ قَالَ : لِتُعْجَلْ إِلَيْهِ ، وَإِنْ يَكُ سِوَى ذَاكَ ، فَبُعْدًا لِأَهْلِ النَّارِ ، الْجِنَازَةُ مَتْبُوعَةٌ ، وَلَا تَتْبَعُ ، لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ تَقَدَّمَهَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about walking with a funeral procession. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A pace that does not amount to running; if he was righteous, he is being quickly taken towards his good end, and if not, then the people of Hell should be kept far away. And the funeral should be followed, not preceded (the funeral should be in front and those walking should be behind it)."
Hadith 3735
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْأَقْمَرِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْأَحْوَصِ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ إِلَّا عَلَى شِرَارِ النَّاسِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Hour will be established only upon the worst of people."
Hadith 3736
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، وَعَلْقَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُكَبِّرُ فِي كُلِّ رَفْعٍ وَوَضْعٍ ، وَقِيَامٍ وَقُعُودٍ ، وَيُسَلِّمُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ : " السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ " ، حَتَّى أَرَى بَيَاضَ خَدِّهِ ، وَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ يَفْعَلَانِ ذَاكَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying the takbeer every time he bowed, rose, stood, and sat, and he would turn to the right and left in such a way while saying salam that the whiteness of his blessed cheeks would be visible. And I saw Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) doing the same.
Hadith 3737
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَنْبَأَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : " لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ آكِلَ الرِّبَا ، وَمُوكِلَهُ ، وَشَاهِدَيْهِ وَكَاتِبَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who consumes usury, the one who gives it, the one who witnesses the usurious transaction, and the one who records it.
Hadith 3738
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ جَامِعِ بْنِ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُعَلِّمُنَا التَّشَهُّدَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ " .
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to teach us the Tashahhud in the same manner as he would teach us a surah from the Noble Qur'an.
Hadith 3739
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، عَنْ شَرِيكٍ ، عَنْ ثُوَيْرِ بْنِ أَبِي فَاخِتَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " لَبَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued reciting the Talbiyah until the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah.
Hadith 3740
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فِي قَوْلِهِ : مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَى سورة النجم آية 11 ، قَالَ : " رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جِبْرِيلَ فِي حُلَّةٍ مِنْ رَفْرَفٍ ، قَدْ مَلَأَ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the interpretation of this statement of Allah, the Exalted: «﴿مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَى﴾ [النجم : 11]» "The heart did not lie about what it saw," that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Jibreel (peace be upon him) wearing a fine silk garment, filling all the space between the heavens and the earth.
Hadith 3741
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : أَقْرَأَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنِّي أَنَا الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الْقُوَّةِ الْمَتِينُ .
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse to me in this way: «﴿إِنِّيْ أَنَا الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الْقُوَّةِ الْمَتِينُ﴾» .

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " إِذَا وَضَعَ جَنْبَهُ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ ، قَالَ : " قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَجْمَعُ عِبَادَكَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would lie down on his bed, he would supplicate: «قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَجْمَعُ عِبَادَكَ» "O Lord! Save me from the punishment of the Day when You will gather Your servants."
Hadith 3743
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا ، فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ، ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِأُنَاسٍ لَا يُصَلُّونَ مَعَنَا ، فَتُحَرَّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتُهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "At one time I intended to order a man to lead the people in prayer, and then to go to those who do not join us in prayer and order that their houses be set on fire."
Hadith 3744
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، وَأَبُو أَحْمَدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يُعْجِبُهُ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ ثَلَاثًا ، وَيَسْتَغْفِرَ ثَلَاثًا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) liked to supplicate three times and seek forgiveness three times.
Hadith 3745
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : مُنْذُ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ سورة النصر آية 1 كَانَ يُكْثِرُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ، إِذَا قَرَأَهَا ثُمَّ رَكَعَ بِهَا ، أَنْ يَقُولَ : " سُبْحَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِكَ ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ " ثَلَاثًا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Surah Nasr was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), if he recited it in prayer, he would say three times in its bowing (ruku'): «سُبْحَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِكَ اللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ» "Glory is to You, O Allah! O our Lord! And to You alone is all praise. O Allah, forgive me, for You are indeed the Acceptor of repentance, the Most Merciful."
