Abu Amr Shaibani says that the resident of this house narrated this hadith to us, and while saying this, he pointed towards the house of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and, out of respect, did not mention his name, that once I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Which deed is most beloved to Allah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Prayer at its proper time." I asked: "After that?" He said: "Good conduct towards parents." I asked: "After that?" He said: "Jihad in the way of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told me these things, and if I had asked more, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would have answered them as well.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person continues to speak the truth and seeks the truth until he is written as a «صديق» with Allah, and a person continues to lie and pursues falsehood until he is written as a «كذاب» with Allah."

One day, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have been informed that you people are waiting for me. I did not come to you only because I do not like to make you weary. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would also leave out some days from admonition and advice for the same reason, as he too did not like us to become weary.
Hadith 4189
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught these words of Tashahhud: «التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلّٰهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللّٰهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ» "All verbal, physical, and financial acts of worship are for Allah alone. O Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon you)! Peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah descend upon you. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you are three people, then two should not whisper to each other excluding the third, for that will cause him grief. And no woman should touch her naked body to another woman so that she describes her physical features to her husband in such a way as if he is seeing her with his own eyes."
Hadith 4191
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 4192
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that at the time of evening, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: «أَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلّٰهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ» "We have entered the evening and the dominion at the time of evening also belongs to Allah, and all praise is for Allah.
Huzail bin Shurahbeel says that once a man came to Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Salman bin Rabee’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked them this issue: If a person’s heirs include one daughter, one granddaughter, and one full sister, how will the inheritance be distributed? Both of them replied that half of the total wealth will go to the daughter and the other half to the sister, and you should also go to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) and ask him this issue; he will agree with us and support us. So that man went to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him the issue and also mentioned the answer given by the aforementioned gentlemen. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If I also give the same verdict, then I will go astray and will not remain among the guided ones. I will give the same decision that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave: the daughter will get half of the total wealth, the granddaughter will get one-sixth so that two-thirds are completed, and whatever remains will go to the sister.
Hadith 4196
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "It is not permissible for anyone to say that I am better than Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us and said: "The concept that disease is contagious is not correct." A Bedouin said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Among a hundred camels, if one mangy camel joins them, it makes all of them mangy (and you say that disease is not contagious?). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell me! Who afflicted the first camel with mange? Disease is not contagious, there is no worm in the head, and the month of Safar is not unlucky. Allah has created every soul and has written down what will happen to it in its life and its sustenance."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at night. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood for so long that I began to intend something bad in my heart. His students asked: What did you intend? He replied: That I would sit down and leave the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) standing.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that even today that scene is preserved before my eyes when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was describing about a prophet: "His people beat him and he was wiping the blood from his face and kept saying, 'O Lord! Forgive my people, for they do not know me.'" (This is a reference to the incident of Ta'if.)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) distributed some things. A man said, "This distribution is such that Allah's pleasure was not intended by it." I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mentioned this matter to him, upon which the color of the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned red. I began to wish that I had not told the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about this matter at all. Nevertheless, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then said: "May Allah's mercy be upon Musa (peace be upon him); he was troubled with even more than this, but he remained patient."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself in the court of the Messenger, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a severe fever. I touched him and asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Do you also have such a severe fever? He said: "Yes! I have a fever equal to that of two men among you." I said: Then will you also receive double the reward? He said: "Yes! By the One in Whose hand is my soul, there is no Muslim on the face of the earth who is afflicted with any hardship—whether it is illness or something else—and Allah does not, because of it, shed his sins just as a tree sheds its leaves."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Quraysh exceeded all limits in disobeying the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated against them for a famine like that during the time of Yusuf (peace be upon him). Consequently, the Quraysh were surrounded by famine and hardship, to the extent that they were forced to eat hides and bones, and the situation became such that when a person looked towards the sky, due to hunger he would see smoke between himself and the sky. After this, Abu Sufyan came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), your people are being destroyed, so pray to Allah to remove this punishment from them." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for them and said: "O Allah! If they do this again, then inflict punishment upon them again." Then he recited this verse: «﴿فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَاءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُبِينٍ﴾» [الدخان : 10] "So wait for the Day when the sky will bring forth a clear smoke."
Hadith 4207
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever begs while he has enough to meet his needs, he will come on the Day of Resurrection with his face scratched." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What is meant by 'enough to meet his needs'? He said: "Fifty dirhams or its equivalent in gold."
Hadith 4208
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What have I to do with the world? My example and the example of the world is like that of a rider who stopped under a tree for a short while to take shade on a hot day, then left it and moved on."
Hadith 4209
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I have observed thirty fasts of the month of Ramadan with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) more frequently than twenty-nine (29); I have never observed twenty-nine with such frequency.
Hadith 4210
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are some angels of Allah who roam about on the earth and convey to me the greetings of my Ummah."
Hadith 4211
Alqamah narrates that on one occasion, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Shall I not lead you in prayer as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray?" Then he led them in prayer and performed the raising of the hands (raf' al-yadayn) only the first time.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was clinging to the covering of the Ka'bah when three men came. One of them was a Qurayshi and two were from the tribe of Thaqif who were his sons-in-law, or one was from Thaqif and two were Qurayshi. Their bellies were large with fat but their hearts had very little understanding. They began to talk quietly among themselves, which I could not hear. Then one of them said: What do you think, does Allah hear our conversations? The second said: I think that when we speak loudly, He hears us, and when we do not raise our voices, He does not hear us. The third said: If He can hear something, then He can hear everything. I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so Allah revealed this verse: «﴿وَمَا كُنْتُمْ تَسْتَتِرُونَ أَنْ يَشْهَدَ عَلَيْكُمْ سَمْعُكُمْ وَلَا أَبْصَارُكُمْ وَلَا جُلُودُكُمْ . . . . . وَذَلِكُمْ ظَنُّكُمُ الَّذِي ظَنَنْتُمْ بِرَبِّكُمْ أَرْدَاكُمْ فَأَصْبَحْتُمْ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ﴾» [فصلت : 22-23] "And you conceal things so that your ears, eyes, and skins may not bear witness against you... This is your lowly assumption about your Lord, and you have become among the losers."
