Yasir bin Jabir says that once a red wind blew in Kufa. A man came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), whose only cry was: “O Abdullah bin Mas’ud! Has the Hour come near?” At that time, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was reclining on a cushion. Hearing this, he sat up straight and said: “The Hour will not be established until inheritance is no longer distributed and there is no joy over war booty. There will be an enemy who will gather his forces against the Muslims, and the Muslims will gather their forces against them.” Saying this, he pointed with his hand towards Syria. I asked: “Do you mean the Romans?” He replied: “Yes!” And at that time there will be a very fierce battle, and a group of Muslims will set out with the pledge that they will die but will not return unless they are victorious. So they will fight until night falls between them, and both armies will return, while that group of Muslims will have perished. However, neither army will have gained victory. This will continue for three days. On the fourth day, all the remaining Muslims will attack the enemy, and Allah Almighty will inflict defeat upon the enemy, and so many people will be killed that its like will not be seen. Even if a bird were to pass over their corpses, it would not be able to cross and would fall and die. At that time, if a man had a hundred sons, only one would return. So what joy would there be over war booty, and what inheritance would be distributed? During this, they will hear an even more terrifying news, and a caller will come and say: “The Dajjal has entered among your children behind you.” So, as soon as they hear this, they will throw away everything they have and turn towards the Dajjal, and will send ten horsemen as the vanguard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I know their names and the names of their fathers and the colors of their horses. At that time, they will be the best horsemen on earth.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let not Bilal's call to prayer prevent you from eating the pre-dawn meal (suhoor), for he gives the call to prayer early so that those who are performing the night prayer may return and those who are sleeping may wake up (and eat suhoor). True dawn does not appear like this"—the narrator joined his hands and raised them—"but it appears like this." The narrator separated his two index fingers to demonstrate.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) distributed some things. An Ansari said, "This distribution is such that seeking Allah's pleasure was not intended." I said to him, "O enemy of Allah! The thing you have said, I will surely inform the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about it." So I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), upon which the color of his blessed face turned red. Then he said: "May Allah's mercy be upon Musa; he was troubled with even more than this, but he remained patient."

Alqama says that once I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), "Was there anyone among you who was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the occasion of Laylat al-Jinn?" He replied, "No, none of us was with him. Rather, one night we found the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) missing. We became worried that perhaps someone had deceived the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and taken him somewhere. We were anxious, wondering what had happened. We spent the entire night—which could be extremely distressing for any people—in this state. When the morning appeared, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was seen coming towards us from the direction of the Cave of Hira. We mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) our worry and anxiety, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'A jinn from among the jinn came to me with an invitation, so I went with them and recited the Noble Qur'an to them. He took me and showed me their traces and the effects of their fire.' (Imam Sha'bi, may Allah have mercy on him, says that they had requested provisions from the Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him].) They were jinn from the Arabian Peninsula." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them, "Every bone upon which Allah's name has been mentioned and which comes into your hands will have more meat on it for the jinn than before. And every dung or droppings that your animals produce, do not use them for istinja (cleaning), because these are the food of your jinn brothers."
Hadith 4150
Abdur Rahman bin Yazid says that he performed Hajj with Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) threw seven pebbles at Jamrah Aqabah and kept the House of Allah (the Ka'bah) on his left hand and Mina on his right hand, and said: This is the place where Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O group of women! Give charity, for you are the majority in Hell." A woman—who was not among the tall women—stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is the reason for this?" He replied: "The reason is that you frequently curse and are ungrateful and disobedient to your husbands."

Abu Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once (a man from Banu Bajilah) — whose name was Nahik bin Sinan — came to the service of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I recite the Mufassalat (short surahs) in one rak'ah. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Like inferior poetry? I also know examples that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited two surahs in one rak'ah. Then he mentioned twenty rak'ahs of the Mufassalat, in each rak'ah two surahs.

I was the last among them to arrive. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You people will attain victory and help.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was granted comprehensive words of goodness, opening and concluding words. Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When you sit after two rak'ahs, say: «التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلّٰهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللّٰهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ» 'All verbal, physical, and bodily acts of worship are for Allah alone. O Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah descend upon you. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger.' And after this, he may supplicate for whatever he likes." And on one occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you what «عضه» is? It is that tale-bearing which creates hatred among people." And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A person continues to speak the truth until he is written as «صديق» with Allah, and likewise, a person continues to lie until he is written as «كذاب» with Allah." And on one occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you what 'al-'adhah' is? It is that tale-bearing which creates hatred among people." And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A person continues to speak the truth until he is written as a siddiq (truthful) with Allah, and likewise, a person continues to lie until he is written as a kadhdhab (liar) with Allah."
Hadith 4161
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I were to take anyone as a close friend (khalil), I would have taken Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)."
Hadith 4162
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: «اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى» "O Allah! I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency (freedom from need before the creation)."
Hadith 4163
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite this verse in this way: « ﴿وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ﴾ » [القمر : 17].

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a prostration of recitation at the end of Surah An-Najm, and all the Muslims also prostrated, except for one man from the Quraysh who took a handful of dust and brought it to his forehead and prostrated on it. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that later, I saw him killed in a state of disbelief.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was praying when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said from a distance: "O Ibn Umm 'Abd! Ask, you will be given." There was competition between the two Shaykhs to convey this good news to me. Sayyiduna 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that in whatever matter Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) competed with me, he always surpassed me. In any case! They informed me that I never abandon this supplication: «اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ نَعِيمًا لَا يَبِيدُ وَقُرَّةَ عَيْنٍ لَا تَنْفَدُ وَمُرَافَقَةَ النَّبِيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي أَعْلَى الْجَنَّةِ جَنَّةِ الْخُلْدِ» "O Allah! It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a tent, about forty people in total. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you pleased and satisfied that you will be one fourth of the people of Paradise?" We replied: Yes! Then he asked: "Are you pleased to be one third?" We again replied in the affirmative. He said: "By Him in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), I hope that you will be half of the people of Paradise, because only that person will enter Paradise who is a Muslim, and your proportion among those who commit shirk is like a white hair on the skin of a black ox, or a black hair on the skin of a red ox."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that your Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was given the keys to everything except five things. Then he recited this verse: « ﴿إِنَّ اللّٰهَ عِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ وَيُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِي الْأَرْحَامِ وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ مَاذَا تَكْسِبُ غَدًا وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ بِأَيِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ إِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ﴾ » [لقمان : 34] "The knowledge of the Hour is with Allah alone.
Abu Majid says that once I was sitting with Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said that I remember that in Islam, the first time a man's hand was cut off was for theft. People brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! He has committed theft. At this, the color of the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed. Someone asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What happened? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You people have become helpers of Satan against your companion, while Allah is forgiving and loves forgiveness, and it is not permissible for any ruler that a case of hadd (prescribed punishment) comes to him and he does not enforce it." Then he recited this verse: «﴿وَلْيَعْفُوا وَلْيَصْفَحُوا أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللّٰهُ لَكُمْ وَاللّٰهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ﴾» [النور : 22] "They should have forgiven and overlooked. Do you not wish that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful."
Hadith 4169
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain, however, in this one it is also mentioned that it seemed as if ashes were scattered on the radiant face of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Hadith 4170
Ibrahim bin Suwaid, who was the imam of their mosque after Alqamah, says that once Sayyiduna Alqamah (may Allah be pleased with him) led us in the Zuhr prayer. I do not remember whether he prayed three rak‘ahs or five. When the people mentioned this to him, he asked me, "O one-eyed! What is your opinion?" I said, "The people are correct." Upon this, he performed the prostration of forgetfulness (sajda sahw), and after that, he narrated a hadith from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 4171
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bad omen is shirk. There is none among us except that it occurs to him, but Allah removes it through reliance (tawakkul) upon Him."

Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whatever things I have forgotten, I have forgotten, but I have not forgotten that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), at the end of the prayer, would turn to the right and to the left saying "As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah," until the whiteness of his cheeks would be visible.
Hadith 4173
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of people are those of my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led a prayer. I do not remember whether there was some deficiency or excess in it. In any case, when he finished the prayer with salam, we informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) folded his legs and performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sahw). Then, turning towards us, he said: "If there had been any new command regarding the prayer, I would certainly have informed you. The fact is that I am also a human being; just as you forget, I too can forget. If I forget, then remind me. And if any of you ever becomes doubtful in his prayer, he should carefully consider and adopt the cautious opinion, and after finishing the prayer with salam, he should perform two prostrations of forgetfulness."

I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger.'" When you say this phrase: "May peace descend upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah," it will include every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth."
Hadith 4178
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abusing a Muslim is wickedness and fighting him is disbelief."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked ten things: wearing a gold ring, dragging the lower garment on the ground, using yellow perfume, plucking white hair, removing semen from its place, performing incantations with things other than the Mu'awwidhat, approaching one's wife during the days of breastfeeding and thereby harming the child's health, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not declare these things unlawful. He also disliked hanging amulets, beautifying oneself for anyone other than one's husband, and playing with dice.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will wait for you at the Pond of Kawthar. At that time, there will be a dispute regarding some people and I will be overpowered. I will say: 'O Lord! My companions?' It will be said: 'You do not know what new things they invented after you.'"

Once, a man from Banu Tai narrated among the people, on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the abundance of family and wealth. Then Abu Hamzah—who was present and sitting there at the time—affirmed this and also narrated it with his own chain of transmission, and at the end, he quoted this statement of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): "What will happen to the person whose family lives in «بريدان», some of his family lives in Madinah and some elsewhere?"
Hadith 4182
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If I were to take anyone as a close friend (khalil), I would have taken Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) as my close friend, but he is my brother and my companion, and your Prophet is the close friend (khalil) of Allah, the Exalted."

It is narrated, most likely as a marfu’ hadith, from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that near the Day of Judgment, the days of «هرج» will come in which knowledge will decline and ignorance will prevail. Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in the language of the people of Habasha, «هرج» means killing.
Hadith 4184
Once, a man from Banu Tai narrated among the people, on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade abundance of family and wealth.
Hadith 4185
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain, however, at the end of it there is also this: What will happen to the person whose family resides in three places—some family members live in Medina, some elsewhere, and some elsewhere.
