Abdullah bin Utbah says that once some people came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked this question (that if a person marries a woman, no dowry is fixed, and before consummation he dies, what is the ruling?). Those people kept coming to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) for about a month, insisting that he must give an answer to this issue. He said: I will state before you the conclusion I have reached by exercising my own judgment; if my answer is correct, it will be by Allah’s guidance, and if it is wrong, it will be from myself; Allah and His Messenger are free from it. The decision is that this woman will be given the dowry similar to that of women like her, she will also inherit, and she will have to observe the waiting period (‘iddah). Upon hearing this decision of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), a group from the tribe of Ashja’ stood up, among whom were Sayyiduna Jarrah and Sayyiduna Abu Sinan (may Allah be pleased with them both), and said: We bear witness that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the same decision regarding one of our women whose name was Barwa’ bint Washiq. Upon this, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) became very happy that his decision matched the decision of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 4277
Abdullah bin Utbah says that once some people came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked this question: If a person marries a woman, does not fix the dowry, and dies before consummation, what is the ruling? . . . . . Wabisa Asadi, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I was at my home in Kufa when there was a sound at the door: "Assalamu Alaikum! May I come in?" I said: "Wa Alaikum Assalam! Please come in." I saw that it was Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him. I said: "O Abu Abdur Rahman! You have come to visit at this time?" It was midday (and it was very hot). He said: "Today has been a very long day for me. I was thinking about whom I should go and talk to (I thought of you, so I came to you)." Then he began to narrate to me the ahadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I began to narrate to him. During this, he narrated this hadith: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'A time of tribulation is soon to come. In that time, the one who is asleep will be better than the one lying down, the one lying down will be better than the one sitting, the one sitting will be better than the one standing, the one standing will be better than the one walking, the one walking will be better than the one riding, and the one riding will be better than the one running. All those killed in that time will go to Hell.'"
I asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! When will that be?" He said: "Those will be the days of Harj." I asked: "What is meant by the days of Harj?" He said: "When a person will not feel safe with his companion." I asked: "If I reach that time, what do you command me to do?" He said: "Restrain yourself and your hand, and stay inside your house." I asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Tell me, if someone enters my house, what should I do?" He said: "Go into your room." I asked: "If he enters my room, what should I do?" He said: "Go into your mosque and do this." Saying this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made a fist with his right hand and placed it on his thumb and said: "Keep saying, 'My Lord is Allah,' until death comes to you upon this faith and belief."
Hadith 4287
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 4288
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is extremely bad for any man among you to say, 'I forgot such and such verse,' rather he should say, 'Such and such verse was made to be forgotten by me.'"
Hadith 4289
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding the Qur'anic verse: « ﴿لَقَدْ رَأَى مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَى﴾ » [النجم : 18] "Indeed, he certainly saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord," that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw a green silk garment of Paradise (which Jibreel, peace be upon him, was wearing) and which covered the horizon.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! I met a woman in a garden, I pulled her towards myself, embraced her, kissed her, and did everything with her except for intercourse. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent for a while, and the man left. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if he had concealed his sin, Allah would have concealed it for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked around and said: "Call him back to me." So the people called him back. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited this verse before him: «﴿وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ذَلِكَ ذِكْرَى لِلذَّاكِرِينَ﴾» [هود : 114] "Establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at some hours of the night. Indeed, good deeds erase bad deeds. That is a reminder for those who remember." Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Is this command specific to him? He replied: "No, rather this command is for every person of my Ummah who commits such an act."

Hadith 4292
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever supports and helps his people in something that is unjust and wrong, his example is like that of a camel which falls into a well and then tries to come out of the well by the support of its tail."

Abdur Rahman bin Yazid says that I departed from the plain of Arafat with Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). When he reached Muzdalifah, upon arrival, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) led us in Maghrib and Isha prayers with adhan and iqamah, and in between he called for food, ate, and then slept. When the early time of Fajr began, he woke up and offered the Fajr prayer in the darkness, and said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had delayed these two prayers at this place from their (usual) times: Maghrib because people arrive here at night, and Fajr was offered at that time. Then he stood (for wuquf), and when it became bright, he said: "If the Commander of the Faithful now departs, he will do the right thing." So, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) had not even finished his words when Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) departed from there.

Qasim narrates from his father that once Walid bin Uqbah delayed the prayer. Seeing this, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, gave the iqamah, and led the people in prayer. Walid sent a message to him asking, “Why did you do this? Have you received any order from the Commander of the Faithful regarding this matter, or have you invented something new?” He replied, “Neither have I received any order from the Commander of the Faithful, nor have I invented anything new. Benefit: These are terms used by jurists, according to which bint makhad or ibn makhad refers to a camel that has entered its second year, bint labun refers to a she-camel that has entered its third year, hiqqah to one in its fourth year, and jaz’ah to a she-camel in its fifth year.
