Musnad Ahmad 18253 — Hadith of Adi ibn Hatim al-Tai
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالاَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَ : ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ النَّارَ ، قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ : فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا ، وَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among you can save himself from Hell, even if it be by giving only a piece of date, then he should do so. If he does not find even that, then he should speak a good word.
