Musnad Ahmad 18254 — Hadith of Adi ibn Hatim al-Tai
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالاَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ مُحِلِّ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ : قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَدِيَّ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ " ، وَقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ : " فَبِكَلِمَةٍ ".
It is narrated from Hazrat Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among you can save himself from Hell, even if it be by giving only a piece of date, then he should do so. If he does not find even that, then he should speak a good word.
