Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair narrates that the very first { اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّکَ الَّذِی خَلَقَ } was revealed to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.

Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair narrates that the very first { اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّکَ الَّذِی خَلَقَ } was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And then Surah Nun was revealed.

Hazrat Abu Raja says that I first learned { اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّکَ الَّذِی خَلَقَ } from my father, Hazrat Abu Musa; this was the first verse that was revealed to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.

Hazrat Mujahid states that the very first (Iqra’ bismi rabbika allathee khalaq) was revealed to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. And then Surah Nun was revealed.

Hazrat Suddi says that the first person to make Thareed was Ibrahim.

Hazrat Mujahid says that Pharaoh was the first to use black dye.

Hazrat Qatadah says that the first person to use dye in Islam was Hazrat Abu Quhafah. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw his head like Thaghamah (a white plant), he said, "Change it with something and avoid black color."

Hazrat Fitr says that I asked Hazrat Mujahid about what is the ruling on multiple muezzins giving the iqamah one after another? He replied that this practice was initiated by the rulers.

Hazrat Maymun bin Mehran says that I asked Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) who was the first to name the night prayer as 'Atmah'? He replied: It was Satan who did so.

Hazrat Majma' bin Yazid narrates that I first saw Utbah bin Uwaim bin Sa'idah performing prayer while wearing shoes.

Hasan says that the first to initiate the practice of gift (hiba) was Hazrat Uthman bin Affan. The first to require testimony for the creditor after the debtor's death was also Hazrat Uthman bin Affan.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that in the month of Ramadan, the first person to gather the people for prayers was Hazrat Umar bin Khattab. He assembled the people behind Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that among the Arabs, the first to write was Harb bin Umayyah bin Abd Shams. He was asked, "From where did he learn to write?" He replied, "From the people of Hira." It was asked, "From where did the people of Hira learn to write?" He replied, "From the people of Anbar."

Hazrat Ata says that Harith bin Abdullah bin Abi Rabi’ah performed Tawaf with Abdul Malik bin Marwan. When they were on the seventh circuit, Abdul Malik bin Marwan approached the Ka’bah and clung to it. Harith held him back with his hand, so Abdul Malik bin Marwan said, “O Harith, what is the matter?” He replied, “O Commander of the Faithful! Do you know who was the first to do this?” It was the old woman from your tribe. Then Abdul Malik bin Marwan stepped back and did not cling to the Ka’bah.

Hazrat Abdullah narrates that when Ibrahim was thrown into the fire, the very first words he said were: "Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs."

Hazrat Ata says that the first mountain created on earth was Mount Abi Qubais.

Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah narrates that I first recognized the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when I was walking in Makkah with Abu Jahl, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) met us. He said to Abu Jahl, “O Abu al-Hakam! Come to Allah, come to the Messenger of Allah, and come to the Book of Allah. I am calling you towards Allah.” He replied, “O Muhammad! You do not refrain from speaking ill of our gods. If you want testimony that you have conveyed the message, then we testify that you have conveyed it.” Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) departed, and Abu Jahl turned to me and said, “By God! I know that what he is saying is the truth, but the Banu Qusayy said that the custodianship of the Ka’bah is with us. We said, ‘Fine.’ Then they said, ‘The hospitality of the pilgrims is with us.’ We said, ‘Fine.’ Then they said, ‘The place for the chiefs to sit is with us.’ We said, ‘Fine.’ They said, ‘The honor of giving water to the pilgrims is with us.’ We said, ‘Fine.’ Then they fed (the pilgrims) and we also fed (them), and now when the people’s comings and goings have increased, they say, ‘A prophet is among us.’ By God, we will never accept this.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Aslam that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I know the person who first made the Bahira animal (an animal dedicated in the name of idols for offerings); he was a man from Banu Mudlij who had two she-camels. He cut the ears of both, and declared their milk and riding on them to be forbidden. I am seeing that man and his she-camels in Hell, that they are trampling him with their feet and biting him with their mouths. I also know the person who made the Saibah animal and assigned shares to idols and changed the religion of Ibrahim. He was Amr bin Luhayy. I am seeing him dragging his intestines in Hell, and because of him, the people of Hell are being tormented.

Hazrat Jarir says that first the right side of the earth will be desolate, then the left side of the earth will be desolate. And the plain of Mahshar will be here, and we are upon Athar.

Hazrat Abu Majid Hanafi says that I was sitting with Hazrat Abdullah when he began to narrate that, in Islam or among the Muslims, the hand of a man from the Ansar was the first to be cut off.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the name 'Atmah' was first given by Satan.

Hazrat Abdullah says that the first thing to be removed from the religion will be trustworthiness, and the last will be prayer.

Hazrat Shaddad narrates that Hazrat Umar was the first to say this: O Allah! I am weak, grant me strength; I am harsh, make me gentle; I am miserly, make me generous.

Hazrat Ziyad bin Hudair says that I am the first person to give ‘Ushr in Islam.

Hazrat Zuhri states that in Islam, the first thief whose hand was cut off was by Hazrat Abu Bakr.

Hazrat Salman mentioned the going out of some of the Mothers of the Believers and said that this was in the Book of Allah, the Zabur.

Hazrat Abdullah says that whoever wants to learn the Qur'an should learn the Qur'an, because it contains the news of the first and the last.

Hazrat Mus'ab bin Sa'd narrates that annual stipends were first fixed by Hazrat Umar.

Hazrat Abu Idrees says that the first person to separate witnesses was Hazrat Daniyal.

Hasan says that the first person to introduce Basra was Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Hazrat Zuhri says that the first person to recite the word "Malik" was Marwan.

Yahya bin Wathab reports that the first person to sit on the pulpit on the two Eids and the first to give the call to prayer (adhan) on them was Ziyad, who is called Ibn Abi Sufyan.

Hazrat Abu Ishaq narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The first flag to knock at the door of Paradise will be mine. On the Day of Resurrection, I will be the first to be granted permission for intercession, and there is no pride in this.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I will be the first intercessor of Paradise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Salam that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Madinah, people rushed towards him. I also came along with the people to meet the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. When I looked closely at his face, I realized by seeing this face that it could not be the face of a liar. The first thing I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say was: "O people! Spread peace, feed others, maintain family ties, pray at night when people are sleeping, and you will enter Paradise in peace."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I will be the first to knock at the door of Paradise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I am the leader of the children of Adam, my grave will be opened first, I will be the first to intercede, and my intercession will be accepted first.

Hazrat Waleed bin Jamee’ says that my grandmother narrated to me that a slave and a slave-girl of Hazrat Warqa bint Abdullah bin Harith together killed her and fled. Then they were caught and brought to Hazrat Umar, who crucified both of them. In Madinah, they were the first to be crucified.

Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Asid narrates that in this Ummah, the reckoning of two men from the Quraysh will be the last.

Hazrat Qais narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: In this Ummah, the reckoning of two men from the Quraysh will be the last.
