Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Muslim bin Yasar said: I do not know what the level of faith will be of a person who does not refrain from those things which Allah dislikes.

Hazrat Muslim bin Yasar says that when any of the predecessors recovered from an illness, it was said to him: May being free from illness be a source of comfort for you.

Hazrat Hammad says that Thabit has reported that Abu Bakr is like a verse of poetry: "You kept calling your beloved constantly, until you yourself became the beloved, and sometimes a person desires something, but before attaining it, death comes to him."

Hazrat Malik bin Dinar says that I asked Jabir bin Zaid about the interpretation of Allah’s statement { وَلَوْلاَ أَنْ ثَبَّتْنَاک لَقَدْ کِدْت تَرْکَنُ إلَیْہِمْ شَیْئًا قلِیلاً إذًا لأَذَقْنَاک ضِعْفَ الْحَیَاۃِ وَضِعْفَ الْمَمَاتِ ثُمَّ لاَ تَجِدُ لَک عَلَیْنَا نَصِیرًا } regarding “double punishment in life” and “double punishment in death.” He replied that it means double the punishment in this world and double the punishment in the Hereafter. Then you will not find any helper for yourself.

Hazrat Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we were with Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid (may Allah have mercy on him). He saw a camel and said: If I tell you people that I will never worship this camel, even then I am not secure from falling into worshipping it.

Hazrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said that people are not similar to one another, nor is the previous night similar to the present one.

Hazrat Abi Al-Aaliyah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that most of the fragrant plants of Paradise are green in color.

Hazrat Abu Ubaid bin Abdullah narrates that when Rabee’ bin Khuthaym would come to Abdullah, no one was allowed to approach them until both of them had finished with each other. Abu Ubaidah says that Abdullah said to him, “O Abu Yazid, if the Messenger of Allah saw you, he would love you, and I have seen you mentioned among the humble ones.”

Hazrat Talha was asked: What is that thing which flourishes in both times of famine and abundance? And what is that thing which withers in both famine and abundance? And what is that thing which is sweeter than honey and never ends? He replied: The thing which flourishes in both famine and abundance is the believer, for if he receives, he is grateful, and if he is tested, he is patient. The thing which withers in both famine and abundance is the disbeliever or the sinful person, for if he is given, he is not grateful, and if he is tested, he is not patient. And the thing which is sweeter than honey and never ends is the love of Allah Almighty, which has created love in the hearts of all believers.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Thamir, who was a devout person and used to go to the mosque early in the morning, that he saw in a dream as if people were being presented before Allah, the Exalted. Then a woman was brought who was wearing very thin clothes. Suddenly, a wind blew and her clothes were uncovered, so Allah turned away from her and commanded that she be taken to Hell, because she was among those who adorned themselves. Then my turn came, and Allah, the Exalted, said: Leave him, for this person used to fulfill the right of Jumu'ah (Friday prayer).

Hazrat Abu Thamir narrates that probably a woman claimed that Allah Almighty will not punish her because she had never stolen, nor ever committed adultery, nor ever killed her children, nor ever made any accusation from herself. Then she saw in a dream that it was being said to her, "Get up and make your abode in Hell, O you who make little into much and much into little, O you who secretly consume the flesh of your poor neighbor." So she pleaded, "O my Lord, rather I repent, I repent."

Hazrat Thabit narrates that Abu Thamir saw in a dream that destruction awaits those women on the Day of Judgment who make themselves appear fat despite having weak bones.

It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit that Abu Thamir was a devout worshipper. One day, before performing the Isha prayer, he fell asleep. Then two angels came to him, or two men came to him in a dream, and one of them sat by his head and the other by his feet. Then the one at his head said to the one at his feet: "Praying before sleeping pleases the Most Merciful and angers Satan." And the one at his feet said to the one at his head: "Sleeping before prayer pleases Satan and angers the Most Merciful."

Hazrat Sila bin Ashyam (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I do not know which of these two days brings me more happiness. One is the day when I begin my day with the remembrance of Allah, and the other is the day when I go out for some need of mine and I am confronted with the remembrance of Allah.

Hazrat Abu Rafi’ah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that since the time the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught me Surah Al-Baqarah, I have never forgotten this Surah, and whatever I have found in the entire Qur’an is also mentioned in this Surah. And I have never felt any back pain due to standing in prayer at night.

Hazrat Sillah narrates that I saw in a dream that Hazrat Abu Rifa’ah was riding a swift she-camel and I was on a heavy camel. I was following behind him. He was carrying me along, swaying me. The interpretation of this dream was given that I would follow Abu Rifa’ah and endure hardship in it.

Hazrat Humaid bin Hilal narrates that Hazrat Abu Rifa’ah used to heat water for his companions during travel, while he himself performed ablution with cold water. Then he would say, "You feel it, and I will feel it."

Hazrat Mutarrif (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if there were any pure and clean-hearted person in this Ummah, it would be Maz‘ur.

Hazrat Mutarrif, may Allah have mercy on him, said that I consider myself and Maz‘ur as one person. Then he said that whoever likes to see two people of Paradise should look at these two. Maz‘ur heard this, and I saw signs of displeasure on his face. So he said, "O Allah, You know us and he does not know us."
