Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qatadah narrates that a Jew milked a she-camel for the Prophet ﷺ, so the Prophet said, "O Allah! Make him beautiful," thus his hair turned black.

Hazrat Ibn Nuhayyik narrates that I heard Amr bin Akhtab Abu Zaid Ansari saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked for water, so I brought a bowl to him. There was a hair in it, so I removed it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "O Allah! Make him beautiful." He says that I saw him at the age of ninety-four, and even at that time there was not a single white hair on his head.

Hazrat Amr bin Al-Hamq narrates that he gave milk to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah! Benefit him with his youth." Thus, he lived to be eighty years old and did not have a single white hair on his head.

Yahya bin Ja'dah narrates from a man that Umm Malik Ansariyyah brought a skin of ghee to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered Bilal to squeeze it out, and then returned the skin to her. When she returned, she saw that the skin was full. So she came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Has any command been revealed regarding me?" He said, "O Umm Malik! What happened?" She said, "You returned my gift." He called Bilal and asked him about it. He said, "By the One Who sent you with the truth, I squeezed it so much that I felt ashamed." So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "O Umm Malik! Congratulations to you, this is a blessing whose reward Allah has hastened for you." Then he taught her to say Subhan Allah ten times, Alhamdulillah ten times, and Allahu Akbar ten times after every prayer.

Abdur Rahman bin Yazid Fashi narrates from the daughter of Hazrat Khabbab, she said that my father went out in a battle during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would look after us and milk our goats, and he would milk them into a large bowl and it would become full. When Khabbab returned and he would milk them, the old vessel for the milk began to be used again.

Hazrat Qatadah says that when the Prophet ﷺ recited { وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِنَ النَّبِیِّینَ مِیثَاقَہُمْ وَمِنْک وَمِنْ نُوحٍ }, he would say that the beginning of goodness was made with me, and in being sent (as a prophet), I am the last of all of them.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us in a state of anger, and we thought that Gabriel was with him. He says, I have not seen a day with more weeping than that day. The Prophet said, "Ask me questions. By Allah, whatever you ask me, I will inform you about it." He says that a man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Will I be in Paradise or in Hell?" The Prophet replied, "No, rather in Hell." Another man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Who is my father?" The Prophet replied, "Your father is Hudhafah." Another man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Is Hajj obligatory upon us every year?" The Prophet replied, "If I say yes, it will become obligatory. If it becomes obligatory, you will not be able to perform it, and if you do not perform it, you will be punished." He says that upon this, Hazrat Umar bin Khattab stood up and said, "We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our religion, and with Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as our Messenger. O Messenger of Allah! Our time of ignorance is near, do not expose our evils, do not disgrace us because of our hidden deeds, and forgive us. Allah has forgiven you." He says that after this, the Prophet's state ended, then he turned towards the wall and said, "I have not seen anything like today in terms of good and evil. I saw Paradise and Hell by this wall."

Hazrat Urwah narrates that when Jibreel delayed in coming to the Prophet ﷺ, he became very anxious. Hazrat Khadijah said, "I think your Lord has forsaken you because He has seen your anxiety." Upon this, these verses were revealed { وَالضُّحَی وَاللَّیْلِ إذَا سَجَی مَا وَدَّعَک رَبُّک ، وَمَا قَلَی }.

Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah narrates that I offered the first prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), then he proceeded towards his house and I also went along. Then some children came to him, so he began to pass his hand over each of their cheeks. He says, when he passed his hand over my cheek, I felt its coolness and fragrance as if it had just been taken out from a perfumer’s pouch.

Hazrat Abu Bishr says that I asked Saeed bin Jubair about Kawthar, so he replied that it is abundant good which Allah has granted to you.

Amarah narrates that Hazrat Ikrimah says that by this is meant prophethood and goodness which Allah granted to you.

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) repeating this verse {إنْ تُعَذِّبْہُمْ فَإِنَّہُمْ عِبَادُک } again and again in bowing and prostration during a night prayer. I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Did you keep repeating this verse until morning?" He replied, "I have asked my Lord for intercession for my Ummah, and it will be granted to every person who does not associate anyone with Allah."

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair narrates that when { تَبَّتْ یَدَا أَبِی لَہَبٍ } was revealed, Abu Lahab’s wife came to the Prophet ﷺ while Abu Bakr was with him. Hazrat Abu Bakr said, “O Messenger of Allah! She will harm you.” The Prophet ﷺ replied, “A veil will be placed between me and her.” Thus, she did not see him. She said to Hazrat Abu Bakr, “Your companion has made us angry.” He replied, “By Allah, he neither composes poetry nor recites poetry.” She said, “You are right,” and then she left. Hazrat Abu Bakr asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Did she not see you?” The Prophet ﷺ replied, “An angel remained between me and her, concealing me, until she left.”

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: My example and the example of the prophets is like that of a man who built a house and completed it, except for one brick. I came and I filled the place of that brick.

Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said: My example and the example of the prophets before me is like that of a man who built a house and completed it except for the place of one brick. So people would enter it and marvel at it and say, "If only this place for the brick were filled, it would be good." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I am that place of the brick; I have come and I have completed the line of prophets.

Habib bin Abi Thabit narrates that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have come from a tribe whose shepherd does not find rest and whose male animals do not wag their tails. Please pray for us." The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah! Quench Your cities and animals with water and open the doors of Your mercy." Then he prayed, "O Allah! Grant us a rain that is abundant, full of greenery, pure, with thick drops, that comes quickly, is beneficial and not harmful." So much rain fell that whoever came from any direction would say that it had rained in their area and the land had come to life.

Hazrat Ayyub bin Musa narrates from the Prophet ﷺ in a marfu’ form that I have been sent as the one who completes and the one who begins, and speech has been made concise for me, so do not let the polytheists destroy you.

Hazrat Zaid bin Aslam narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: I have been sent to perfect the best of morals.

Hazrat Muslim narrates that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), or some of them, said: "O Messenger of Allah! What will happen to us after being separated from you in this world? If you pass away, you will reach high ranks and we will not be able to see you." So Allah revealed this verse: { وَمَنْ یُطِعَ اللَّہَ وَالرَّسُولَ فَأُولَئِکَ مَعَ الَّذِینَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّہُ عَلَیْہِمْ مِنَ النَّبِیِّینَ وَالصِّدِّیقِینَ وَالشُّہَدَائِ وَالصَّالِحِینَ وَحَسُنَ أُولَئِکَ رَفِیقًا }.

Hazrat Hakeem bin Jabir narrates that when this verse was revealed { آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إلَیْہِ مِنْ رَّبِّہِ }, Jibreel said to the Prophet ﷺ that indeed Allah has praised you and your Ummah in the best manner, so ask and you will be granted. Thus, the Prophet ﷺ recited this verse till the end, { لاَ یُکَلِّفُ اللَّہُ نَفْسًا إلاَّ وُسْعَہَا } … etc.

Hazrat Hussain bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the command of Allah { وَیَتْلُوہُ شَاہِدٌ مِّنْہُ } says that it refers to Muhammad (peace be upon him), who is a witness from Allah.

Hazrat Umair bin Ishaq narrates that when the Prophet ﷺ and Hazrat Abu Bakr set out towards Madinah, Suraqah bin Malik pursued them. When he saw both of them, he said, "These are the fugitives of Quraysh; I will deliver their fugitives to Quraysh." So he made his horse run towards them, but the horse's feet sank into the ground. He said, "Pray to Allah that He may rescue them; I will not come near you." So he was rescued. Then he did the same again, and this happened two or three times. He said, "Destruction and ruin!" Then he said, "Do you need provisions or a mount?" They replied, "We do not want it, nor do we need it; suffice it for us from yourself." He said, "I will suffice you from myself."

Saeed bin Jubair narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said that Hazrat Musa asked a question of himself { وَاخْتَارَ مُوسَی قَوْمَہُ سَبْعِینَ رَجُلاً … مَکْتُوبًا عِنْدَہُمْ فِی التَّوْرَاۃِ وَالإِنْجِیلِ } that question was accepted for Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Hazrat Mak'hool narrates that there was an image of a ram on the shield of the Prophet ﷺ, which was burdensome for him, so by morning it was gone.

Hazrat Salim bin Abi Al-Ja'd narrates that the Prophets were mentioned in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ. When his own mention occurred, he said: "He is the friend of Allah."

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, I will have the greatest number of followers, and I will be the first to knock at the door of Paradise.

Hazrat Abu Salih narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: O people! I am a gifted mercy.

Hazrat Abi states that a man submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! If I send blessings upon you in all of my supplications, how is that?" He replied, "Then Allah will suffice you in all your important matters of this world and the Hereafter."

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Send blessings upon me, for sending blessings upon me is your purification, and ask Allah to grant me al-Wasilah." The companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What is al-Wasilah?" He replied, "It is a high rank in Paradise which only one person will attain. I hope that I will be that person."

Hazrat Sha'bi narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send mercy upon him ten times.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send mercy upon him ten times, and ten of his sins will be forgiven.

Hazrat Ibn Masood narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Judgment, the person closest to me will be the one who sends the most blessings (salawat) upon me.

Hazrat Abu Talha narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came one day while signs of happiness were visible on his face. He said: A certain angel came to me and said, "O Muhammad! Are you not pleased that for anyone from your Ummah who sends blessings upon you once, I will send mercy upon him ten times, and whoever sends peace upon you once, I will send peace upon him ten times?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Why not!"

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said: I performed a prostration of gratitude for the blessing that Allah granted me on behalf of my Ummah, that whoever sends blessings upon me once, ten good deeds will be written for him and ten of his sins will be forgiven.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that whoever sends blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, ten good deeds will be written for him, ten of his sins will be forgiven, and his ten ranks will be elevated.

Hazrat Aamir bin Rabee’ah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever sends blessings upon me, the angels continue to pray for him as long as he keeps sending blessings upon me. Therefore, it is up to the servant whether he sends few blessings or many.

Husain narrates that Yazid Raqashi said that an angel is appointed over the person who sends blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, so that he may convey his blessings to the Prophet ﷺ, saying: "Your such-and-such follower has sent blessings upon you."

The father of Hazrat Ja'far narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever hears my name mentioned in his presence and forgets to send blessings upon me will lose his way to Paradise on the Day of Judgment.

Badr bin Uthman narrates that Hazrat Ikrimah said that Kawthar is that goodness, prophethood, and Islam which was granted to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.

Hazrat Ata, in the explanation of Allah’s command {إنَّا أَعْطَیْنَاک الْکَوْثَرَ }, says that Kawthar is a pond in Paradise which has been granted to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
