Sayyidah Umm al-Ala' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him, and I said: May Allah have mercy on you, O Abu al-Sa'ib! I bear witness about you that Allah has surely honoured you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How do you know that Allah has honoured him?" I said: I do not know. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for him, the certainty (death) has come to him from his Lord. By Allah, I am the Messenger of Allah, and I do not know what will be done with me, nor with you." I said: By Allah, I will never again bear witness about anyone. The narrator said: Then I saw in a dream a spring flowing for Uthman, so I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is his deeds."

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm al-Ala' (may Allah be pleased with her), who was one of their (the Ansar's) women who had given the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that she said: Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, so we wrapped him in his garments. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, and I said: May Allah have mercy on you, O Abu al-Sa'ib! I bear witness about you that Allah has surely honoured you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How do you know? As for him, the certainty (death) has come to him. By Allah, I hope good for him, but I do not know what Allah will do with him." I said: By Allah, I will never again bear witness about anyone. His words silenced me. Then, when I slept, I saw a spring flowing for Uthman bin Maz'un, so I mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is his deeds."

Sayyidah Umm al-Ala' al-Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Muslims came to Madinah, they drew lots for lodgings, so that each one came to stay with someone. Among them was Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him), who stayed with a woman of the Ansar. He fell ill, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept coming to visit him. Then it happened that he (Abu al-Sa'ib) died, and the woman said: O Abu al-Sa'ib! My testimony about you is that Allah has honoured you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "What do you know?"

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm al-Ala' (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her during her illness and said: "Rejoice, O Umm al-Ala'! For the illness of a Muslim removes his sins just as fire removes the dross of iron."
