حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، وَمُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، قَالَا: ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي عَمَّتِي حَمَادَةُ بِنْتُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَمَّتِهَا آمِنَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهَا أُمِّ لَيْلَى، قَالَتْ: «بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكَانَ فِيمَا أَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ نَخْتَضِبَ الْغمسَ وَنَمْتَشِطَ، بِالْعَسَلِ، وَلَا نَقْحَلُ أَيْدِينَا مِنْ خِضَابٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Layla (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "We gave the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and among the things he (peace and blessings be upon him) took from us was that we should dye our hands completely, comb our hair with honey, and not leave our hands bare of dye."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الْحِمَّانِيُّ، ثنا حَازِمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْغِفَارِيُّ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ حَمَّادَةَ بِنْتِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى وَكَانَتْ أَكْبَرَ وَلَدَ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ عَمَّتِي، تَقُولُ:: أَدْرَكْتُ أُمَّ لَيْلَى تَصْبُغُ لَهَا دِرْعِهَا، وَخِمَارَهَا، وَمِلْحَفَهَا فِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ مَرَّةً، وَتَخْضُبُ بَدَنَهَا وَرِجْلِيهَا غَمْسَةً، وَقَالَتْ: عَلَى هَذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَتْ: وَرَأَيْتُهَا وَفِي يَدِهَا مَسَكَتَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، وَكَانُوا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهَا مِنَ الْفَيْءِ، وَكَانَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى يَصْبُغُ لَهَا "
Hazim bin Muhammad al-Ghifari narrates from his mother Hammadah bint Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, who was the eldest child of Muhammad. She said: I heard my paternal aunt saying: I saw Umm Layla (may Allah be pleased with her) dyeing her shift, her head-covering and her wrap once every month, and she would apply dye to her body and her feet completely, and she would say: It was on this that we gave the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: And I saw her with two gold bracelets on her hand, and people thought they were from the war booty. Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla used to do the dyeing for her.
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، وَمُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، قَالَا: ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، حَدَّثَتْنِي عَمَّتِي حَمَّادَةُ بِنْتُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَمَّتِهَا آمِنَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهَا أُمِّ لَيْلَى، قَالَتْ: أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَتْ إِحْدَانَا تَقْدِرُ أَنْ تَتَّخِذَ فِي يَدِهَا مِسْكَتَيْنِ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَقْدِرْ فَصَدَّتْ يَدَيْهَا، وَلَوْ بِسَيْرٍ وَقَالَ: «لَا تَشَبَّهْنَ بِالرِّجَالِ»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Layla (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us that if one of us was able to wear two silver bracelets on her hand, she should wear them, and if she was not able, she should bind her hands with something, even if only with a leather strap. And he said: "Do not resemble men."
