حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، أنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أنا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: " تُوُفِّيَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: اغْسِلُوهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ، وَاغْسِلْنَهَا بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ، وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ، فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي، فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ، فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ، قَالَ: أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ، قَالَتْ: جَعَلْنَا رَأْسَهَا ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُونٍ وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُنَّ مِنْ خَلْفِهَا، قَالَتْ: وَالْحَقْوُ إِزَارٌ صَغِيرٌ "

Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), passed away, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash her three times, five times, or more than that if you see fit, and wash her with water and lote-tree leaves, and add some camphor in the last washing. Then, when you have finished, inform me." When we finished, we informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us his waist-wrapper and said: "Wrap her in this." Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We divided her hair into three braids and let them fall behind her. She said: The haqw is a small waist-wrapper.

Hadith 21550

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَيُّوبُ السَّخْتِيَانِيُّ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ سِيرِينَ، يَقُولُ: «كَانَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهَا أُمُّ عَطِيَّةَ مِنَ اللَّاتِي بَايَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدِمَتِ الْبَصْرَةَ تُبَادِرُ ابْنًا لَهَا، فَلَمْ تُدْرِكُهُ» فَحَدَّثَتْنَا، وَذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ مَعْمَرٍ

Ibn Sirin said: There was a woman of the Ansar called Umm Atiyyah, who was among those women who had given the pledge to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She came to Basrah hurrying to reach a son of hers, but she did not find him (alive). She narrated to us, and he mentioned a hadith similar to the hadith of Ma'mar.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَا: أنا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةِ، قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ: " تُوُفِّيَتُ ابْنَتُهُ، فَقَالَ: اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ، وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي، قَالَتْ: فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَعْطَانَا حَقْوَهُ، فَقَالَ: أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ يَعْنِي إِزَارَهُ

Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us when his (peace and blessings be upon him) daughter passed away and said: "Wash her three times, five times, or more than that if you see fit, with water and lote-tree leaves, and add camphor, or some camphor, in the last washing. Then, when you have finished, inform me." When we finished, we informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us his waist-wrapper and said: "Wrap her in this."

حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِيِ اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ السَّخْتِيَانِيِّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: " تُوُفِّيَتِ ابْنَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَاجْتَمَعْنَا عِنْدَهَا، فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِالْمَاءِ وَالسِّدْرِ، وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ، فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ، فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ وَقَالَ: أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ "

Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, so we gathered at her place and went in to her. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in to us and said: "Wash her three times, five times, or more than that if you see fit, with water and lote-tree leaves, and add camphor, or some camphor, in the last washing. Then, when you have finished, inform me." When we finished, we informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us his waist-wrapper and said: "Wrap her in this."

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ نُغَسِّلُ ابْنَتَهُ «فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ»

Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us while we were washing his (peace and blessings be upon him) daughter, and then she narrated the same hadith that has preceded.

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ زَاذَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، وَهِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانٍ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، وَخَالِدِ بْنِ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: تُوُفِّيَتْ إِحْدَى بَنَاتِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُغَسِّلَهَا بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ، وَقَالَ: " اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي آخِرِهِنَّ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ، فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ: أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ "

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الشَّعْثَاءِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، وَأَشْعَثَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: تُوُفِّيَتْ إِحْدَى بَنَاتِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اغْسِلْنَهَا بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاغْسِلْنَهَا وِتْرًا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا وَإِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ أَنْ تَزِدْنَ فَزِدْنَ، وَلْيَكُنْ ذَلِكَ وِتْرًا وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي آخِرِهِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ، ثُمَّ أَلْقَى لَنَا حَقْوَهُ، فَقَالَ: أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ "

Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: One of the daughters of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash her with water and lote-tree leaves, and wash her an odd number of times, that is, three or five times; and if you see fit to do more, then do more, but let it be an odd number; and add camphor, or some camphor, in the last washing." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us his waist-wrapper and said: "Wrap her in this."

حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْحَلَبِيُّ، قَالَا ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، وَحَبِيبٍ، وَهِشَامٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: تُوُفِّيَتْ بِنْتُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: اغْسِلْنَهَا بِالْمَاءِ وَالسِّدْرِ ثَلَاثًا، أَوْ خَمْسًا، أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ، وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي آخِرِهِنَّ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ، فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي، قَالَتْ: فَآذَنَّاهُ، فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ، فَقَالَ: أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ. قَالَ أَيُّوبُ: وَقَالَتْ بِقَصَّةٍ تَغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا، أَوْ خَمْسًا، أَوْ سَبْعًا، وَاجْعَلْنَ لَهَا ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُونٍ "

Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash her with water and lote-tree leaves three times, five times, or more than that if you see fit, and add some camphor in the last washing. Then, when you have finished, inform me." We informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us his waist-wrapper and said: "Wrap her in this."
Ayyub said: And she also said: Wash her three, five or seven times, and make her (hair into) three braids.

Hadith 21562

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَوَارِبِيُّ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ الْأَدَمِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ الشُّعَيْثِيُّ، ثنا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: تُوُفِّيَتِ ابْنَةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا وَنَحْنُ نُغَسِّلُهَا، فَقَالَ: " اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا، أَوْ خَمْسًا، فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ، فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ، فَقَالَ: أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ «

Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) came in to us while we were washing her, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash her three times or five times. Then, when you have finished, inform me." When we finished, we informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us his waist-wrapper and said: "Wrap her in this."

Hadith 21563

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، أنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، رَفَعَهُ نَحْوًا مِنْهُ»

A similar hadith is also narrated from Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) as a marfu' report (attributed to the Prophet).
