Shahr bin Hawshab (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid al-Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in my house, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the Dajjal and said: "Before his coming there will be three years: a year in which the sky will withhold a third of its rain and the earth will withhold a third of its produce; in the second year the sky will withhold two-thirds of its rain and the earth two-thirds of its produce; and in the third year the sky will withhold all its rain and the earth all its produce, so that no animal with molars and no animal with hooves will remain except that it perishes. And among the greatest of his trials is that he will come to a Bedouin and say: 'Tell me, if I bring your camels back to life for you, will you not know that I am your Lord?' He will say: 'Certainly.' Then Satan will appear before him in the form of his camels, with udders such as they never had before and with such great humps. And he will come to a man whose brother and father have died and say: 'Tell me, if I bring your father and your brother back to life for you, will you not know that I am your Lord?' He will say to him: 'Certainly.' Then Satan will appear before him in the form of his father and his brother." She said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out for some need, then returned while the people were worried and grieved by what he (peace and blessings be upon him) had told them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of the door and said: "What is the matter?" Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah! You have shaken our hearts with the mention of the Dajjal." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he comes out while I am alive, then I will be the one to contend with him; otherwise my Lord is my successor over every Muslim believer." Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Then I said: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah! We knead our dough and before we have even baked the bread we become hungry; so how will the believers fare on that day?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What suffices the inhabitants of the heavens - glorification and sanctification (tasbih and taqdis) - will suffice them."

It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was among a group of his Companions, and they mentioned the Dajjal. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Before the Hour there will be red (barren) years: in the first year the sky will withhold a third of its rain and the earth a third of its produce; in the second year the sky will withhold two-thirds of its rain and the earth two-thirds of its produce; and in the third year the sky will withhold all its rain and the earth all its produce, so that no animal with a hoof or a cloven hoof will remain." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went out for his need, then returned while those Companions were sobbing. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of the two side-posts of the door and said: "What is the matter with you?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah! One of us kneads his dough and cannot wait until it rises." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he comes out while I am among you, then I will be the one to contend with him; otherwise Allah is my successor over every believer." They said: "O Messenger of Allah! Then what will suffice the believer on that day?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What suffices the angels: glorification, praise, declaring Allah's oneness and declaring His greatness (tasbih, tahmid, tahlil and takbir)."

Shahr bin Hawshab (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid bin al-Sakan (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the paternal cousin of Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated to me; she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me with some of his Companions, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the Dajjal and said: "Before his emergence there will be three years, or a year, in which the sky will withhold a third of its rain and the earth a third of its produce; in the second year the sky will withhold two-thirds of its rain and the earth two-thirds of its produce; and in the third year the sky will withhold all that is in it and the earth all that is in it, so that every animal with molars and every animal with hooves will perish. And among the greatest of his trials is that he will say to a Bedouin: 'Tell me, if I bring your camels back to life for you, with large udders, long humps, plump and well-fed, will you not know that I am your Lord?' He will say: 'Yes.' Then Satan will appear before him (in that form)." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out for some need of his, and I placed water for his ablution, and the people began sobbing so much that their voices rose. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of the door and said: "What is the matter?" We said: "O Messenger of Allah! You have torn out their hearts with the mention of the Dajjal." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If the Dajjal comes out while I am alive, then I will be the one to contend with him; and if I have died, then Allah is my successor over every believer." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Then what will suffice the believers on that day?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What suffices the inhabitants of the heavens - glorification and sanctification (tasbih and taqdis) - will suffice them."
