It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person enters his grave, his righteous deeds, prayer and fasting, surround him. The angel comes to him from the side of the prayer and it repels him, and from the side of the fasting and it repels him. Then the angel calls him: 'Sit up.' So he sits up, and the angel says to him: 'What do you say about this man?' He says: 'Which man?' The angel says: 'Muhammad.' He says: 'By Allah! I do not know anything; I heard people saying something, so I said it too.' The angel says: 'On that you lived, on that you died, and on that you will be raised.'" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And in his grave a black, dark beast is appointed for him, with a whip whose tip is a burning ember. It keeps beating him as long as Allah wills, and no one hears his voice so as to have mercy on him."
