حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَهْدِيٍّ الْأَخْمِيمِيُّ، ثنا عَمِّي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، ثنا عَنْبَسَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: «سَبَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ مِنْ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ فِي غَزْوَتِهِ الَّتِي هَدَمَ فِيهَا مَنَاةً غَزْوَةِ الْمُرَيْسِيعِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith bin Abi Dirar (may Allah be pleased with her), of Banu al-Mustaliq (of the tribe of Khuza'ah), captive in the expedition in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) demolished the idol Manat, that is, the expedition of al-Muraysi'.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ الْحَلَبِيُّ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنِيعٍ الرُّصَافِيُّ، ثنا جَدِّي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: «سَبَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي ضِرَارِ بْنِ عَائِذِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْمُصْطَلِقِ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ، وَاسْمُ الْمُصْطَلِقِ خُزَيْمَةُ، يَوْمَ وَاقَعَ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ»
Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith bin Abi Dirar bin A'idh bin Malik bin al-Mustaliq, of the tribe of Khuza'ah (al-Mustaliq's name was Khuzaymah), captive on the day he (peace and blessings be upon him) fought Banu al-Mustaliq.
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا شَبَابٌ الْعُصْفُرِيُّ، قَالَ: «مَاتَتْ جُوَيْرِيَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَنَةَ سِتٍّ وَخَمْسِينَ»
Shabab al-Usfuri (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), died in the year 56 AH.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ: «كَانَتْ جُوَيْرِيَةُ مِلْكَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَعْتَقَهَا، وَجَعَلَ عِتْقَهَا صَدَاقَهَا، وَعَتَقَ كُلَّ أَسِيرٍ مِنْ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ»
Al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Sayyidah Juwayriyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was owned by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) freed her and made her freedom her dowry (mahr), and he freed every captive of Banu al-Mustaliq.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ: قَالَتْ جُوَيْرِيَةُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّ أَزْوَاجَكَ يَفْخَرْنَ عَلِيَّ وَيَقُلْنَ: لَمْ يَتَزَوَّجْكِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «أَوَلَمْ أُعْظِمْ صَدَاقَكِ، أَلَمْ أَعْتِقْ أَرْبَعِينَ مِنْ قَوْمَكِ»
Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Sayyidah Juwayriyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Your (peace and blessings be upon him) wives boast over me and say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not marry you. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did I not make your dowry great? Did I not free forty people of your tribe?"
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، قَالَ: كَتَبْتُ إِلَى نَافِعٍ أَسْأَلُهُ: هَلْ كَانَتِ الدَّعْوَةُ قَبْلَ الْقِتَالِ؟ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كَانَ فِي أَوَّلِ الْإِسْلَامِ، «وَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَغَارَ عَلَى بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ وَهُمْ غَارُونَ، وَنَعَمِهِمْ تُسْقَى فَقَتَلَ مُقَاتِلَهُمْ، وَسَبَى سَبْيَهُمْ فَأَصَابَ جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ» حَدَّثَنِي بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَكَانَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشِ
Ibn Awn (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I wrote to Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) asking whether the call to Islam used to be given before fighting. He wrote back to me that this was at the beginning of Islam, and that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made a surprise attack on Banu al-Mustaliq while they were unaware and their livestock were being watered. He (peace and blessings be upon him) killed their fighting men and took their captives, and among them was Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her). This hadith was narrated to me by Abdullah bin Muhammad, who was in that very army on that day.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اصْطَفَى جُوَيْرِيَةَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) chose Sayyidah Juwayriyah (may Allah be pleased with her) for himself from among the captives.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَاصِمُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ، كُلٌّ قَدْ حَدَّثَنِي بِبَعْضِ حَدِيثِ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ، قَالَ: بَلَغَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ يَجْمَعُونَ لَهُ، وَقَائِدُهُمُ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ أَبُو جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " خَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ حَتَّى لَقِيَهُمْ عَلَى مَاءٍ لَهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْمُرَيْسِيعُ مِنْ نَاحِيَةِ قُدَيْدٍ إِلَى السَّاحِلِ، فَتَزَاحَمَ النَّاسُ وَاقْتَتَلُوا، فَهَزَمَ اللهُ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ، وَقُتِلَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ أَبُو جُوَيْرِيَةَ، وَقُتِلَ مَنْ قُتِلَ مِنْهُمْ، وَنَفَّلَ اللهُ رَسُولَهُ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَنِسَاءَهُمْ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَصَابَ مِنْهُمْ سَبْيًا كَثِيرًا قَسَمَهُ فِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَكَانَ فِيمَا أَصَابَ يَوْمَئِذٍ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ: جُوَيْرِيَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ قَوْمِهَا "
Muhammad bin Ishaq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Asim bin Umar bin Qatadah, Abdullah bin Abi Bakr and Muhammad bin Yahya bin Habban each narrated to me part of the story of Banu al-Mustaliq. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) received news that Banu al-Mustaliq were gathering against him (peace and blessings be upon him), and their leader was al-Harith bin Abi Dirar, the father of Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her), who later became the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard about them, he (peace and blessings be upon him) went out towards them until he met them at one of their watering places called al-Muraysi', in the direction of Qudayd near the coast. The people clashed and fought, and Allah Almighty defeated Banu al-Mustaliq. Al-Harith bin Abi Dirar was killed, and those of them who were killed were killed. Allah Almighty granted His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) their sons and women as spoils of war. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took many captives from them, whom he (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed among the Muslims, and among the women he (peace and blessings be upon him) took that day was Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith bin Abi Dirar (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the chief of the women of her people.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: وَقَعَتْ جُوَيْرِيَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْمُصْطَلِقِ فِي سَهْمِ ثَابِتِ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ شَمَّاسٍ - أَو لِابْنِ عَمٍّ لَهُ - فَكَاتَبَتْ عَلَى نَفْسِهَا، فَأَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسْتَعِينُهُ فِي كِتَابَتِهَا، فَوَاللهِ مَا هِيَ إِلَّا أَنْ وَقَعَتْ عَلَى بَابِ الْحُجْرَةِ فَكَرِهْتُهَا، وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً حَسَنَةً لَا يَرَاهَا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا أَخَذَتْ بِنَفْسِهِ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنَا جُوَيْرِيَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي ضِرَارٍ سَيِّدِ قَوْمِهِ، وَقَدْ أَصَابَنِي مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ مَا قَدْ رَأَيْتَ، وَإِنِّي قَدْ وَقَعْتُ فِي السَّهْمِ لِثَابِتِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ - أَوْ لِابْنِ عَمٍّ لَهُ - وَكَاتَبْتُهُ عَلَى نَفْسِي، فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَسْتَعِينُهُ عَلَى كِتَابَتِهِ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ
Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Sayyidah Juwayriyah bint al-Harith bin al-Mustaliq (may Allah be pleased with her) fell, in the distribution of the captives, to the share of Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with him) or one of his paternal cousins. She then made a contract (mukatabah) for her freedom, and came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking his help with her contract. By Allah! She had barely come to the door of the room when I disliked it. She was a beautiful woman; whoever saw her was captivated by her. She said: O Messenger of Allah! I am Juwayriyah bint al-Harith bin Abi Dirar, the daughter of the chief of his people, and there has befallen me the affliction that you have seen. I have been given to the share of Thabit bin Qays or one of his paternal cousins, and I have made a contract with him for my freedom, so I have come to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking help with my contract. Then the narrator narrated the hadith in full.
