The mother of Manbudh narrated that she was sitting with Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) came in to her. She said: What is the matter, that I see you dishevelled? He said: Umm Ammar, who combs my hair, has begun menstruating. She said: My son! What has menstruation to do with the hand? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to one of us while she was reclining, menstruating, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) knew it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would lean on her and recite the Qur'an. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to her while she was standing and menstruating, and he would lean in her lap and recite the Qur'an. And she, while menstruating, would get up and spread the khumrah (small prayer mat) for him (peace and blessings be upon him) at his place of prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray on it. My son! What has menstruation to do with the hand?
