حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْأَشْعَثِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ ثنا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ بْنِ دِعَامَةَ، قَالَ: تَزَوَّجَ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي لَهَبٍ، فَلَمْ يَبْنِ بِهَا حَتَّى بُعِثَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَكَانَتْ رُقْيَةُ عِنْدَ أَخِيهِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي لَهَبٍ، فَلَمَّا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ {تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ} [المسد: ١] ، قَالَ أَبُو لَهَبٍ لِابْنَيْهِ عُتَيْبَةَ، وَعُتْبَةَ: رَأْسِي مِنْ رَأْسِكُمَا حَرَامٌ إِنْ لَمْ تُطَلِّقَا ابْنَتَيْ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَقَالَتْ أُمُّهُمَا بِنْتُ حَرْبِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ وَهِيَ حَمَّالَةُ الْحَطَبِ: طَلِّقَاهُمَا يَا بَنِيَّ، فَإِنَّهُمَا قَدْ حَبَّتَاهُ فَطَلَّقَاهُمَا، وَلَمَّا طَلَّقَ عُتَيْبَةُ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَيْثُ فَارَقَ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ، فَقَالَ: كَفَرْتُ بِدِينِكَ وَفَارَقْتُ ابْنَتَكَ لَا تُحِبُّنِي وَلَا أُحِبُّكَ، ثُمَّ سَطَا عَلَيْهِ فَشَقَّ قَمِيصَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ خَارِجٌ نَحْوَ الشَّامِ تَاجِرًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَمَا إِنِّي أَسْأَلُ اللهَ أَنْ يُسَلِّطَ عَلَيْكَ كَلْبَهُ» ، فَخَرَجَ فِي تَجْرٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ حَتَّى نَزَلُوا بِمَكَانٍ مِنَ الشَّامِ يُقَالُ لَهُ: الزَّرْقَاءُ لَيْلًا، فَأَطَافَ بِهِمُ الْأَسَدُ فِي تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةِ فَجَعَلَ عُتَيْبَةَ يَقُولُ: يَا وَيْلَ أُمِّي، هُوَ وَاللهِ آكِلِي كَمَا دَعَا عَلَيَّ مُحَمَّدٌ فَأَبْكَى ابْنَ أَبِي كَبْشَةَ وَهُوَ بِمَكَّةَ وَأَنَا بِالشَّامِ فَعَدَا عَلَيْهِ الْأَسَدُ مِنْ بَيْنِ الْقَوْمِ فَأَخَذَ بِرَأْسِهِ فَضَغَمَهُ ضَغْمَةً، فَقَتَلَهُ، قَالَ زُهَيْرُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ: فَحَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ الْأَسَدَ لَمَّا أَطَافَ بِهِمْ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ انْصَرَفُوا فَنَامُوا وَجَعَلَ عُتَيْبَةُ وَسْطَهُمْ فَأَقْبَلَ الْأَسَدُ يَتَخَطَّى حَتَّى أَخَذَ بِرَأْسِ عُتَيْبَةَ فَدَغَمَهُ وَخَلَفَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ بَعْدَ رُقْيَةَ عَلَى أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ رِضْوَانُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِمَا
Qatadah bin Di'amah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Utaybah bin Abi Lahab had married Sayyidah Umm Kulthum bint Rasulullah (peace and blessings be upon him), but he had not yet taken her to his home when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was honoured with prophethood; and Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was married to his brother Utbah bin Abi Lahab. When Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed the verse "May the two hands of Abu Lahab perish," Abu Lahab said to his two sons Utaybah and Utbah: My head is forbidden to your heads if you do not divorce the two daughters of Muhammad. And their mother, the daughter of Harb bin Umayyah, who was the carrier of firewood, said: My sons, divorce them, for they have come to favour him. So the two of them divorced them. When Utaybah divorced Sayyidah Umm Kulthum, he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), where he had left Umm Kulthum, and said: I reject your religion and I have left your daughter; you do not like me and I do not like you. Then he attacked him (peace and blessings be upon him) and tore the shirt of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while he (Utaybah) was setting out for Syria to trade. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Listen, I ask Allah to set His dog upon you." Then he set out with a trading caravan of Quraysh, until they stopped at night at a place in Syria called al-Zarqa'. That night a lion began to circle around them, and Utaybah began to say: Woe to my mother! By Allah, it will surely eat me, just as Muhammad invoked against me. The son of Abu Kabshah has made (me) weep, though he is in Makkah and I am in Syria. Then the lion attacked him alone from among all the people, seized his head, struck him a crushing blow and killed him. Zuhayr bin al-Ala' said: Hisham bin Urwah told us from his father that when the lion was circling around them that night, the people went to sleep and placed Utaybah in their midst. But the lion came, stepping over the people, until it seized Utaybah's head and mauled him. Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) married Sayyidah Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her) after Sayyidah Ruqayyah.
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، حَدَّثَنَا الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، قَالَ: وَكَانَتْ أُمُّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِنْدَ عُتَيْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي لَهَبٍ الَّذِي أَكَلَهُ الْأَسَدُ فَفَارَقَهَا، وَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَتْ رُقْيَةُ عِنْدَ عُثْمَانَ زَوَّجَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ فَتُوُفِّيَتْ عِنْدَهُ وَلَمْ تَلِدْ لَهُ شَيْئًا، وَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَوْ كَانَ لِي عَشْرٌ لَزَوَّجْتُكَهُنَّ»
Zubayr bin Bakkar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyidah Umm Kulthum bint Rasulullah (peace and blessings be upon him) was married to Utaybah bin Abi Lahab, whom the lion ate, and he left her. When Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away while married to Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married him to Sayyidah Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her), and she too passed away while married to him and bore him no children. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "If I had ten daughters, I would have married them all to you."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ الْحَلَبِيُّ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنِيعٍ الرُّصَافِيُّ، ثنا جَدِّي، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: «تَزَوَّجَ عُثْمَانُ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتُوُفِّيَتْ عِنْدَهُ وَلَمْ تَلِدْ لَهُ شَيْئًا»
Al-Zuhri narrated: Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) married Sayyidah Umm Kulthum bint Rasulullah (peace and blessings be upon him); she passed away while married to him and bore him no children.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثنا أَبُو مَرْوَانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْعُثْمَانِيُّ ثنا أَبِي، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: وَقَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى قَبْرِ ابْنَتِهِ الثَّانِيَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ عِنْدَ عُثْمَانَ، فَقَالَ: «أَلَا أَبَا أَيِّمٍ أَلَا أَخَا أَيِّمٍ تَزَوَّجَهَا عُثْمَانُ فَلَوْ كُنَّ عَشْرًا لَزَوَّجْتُهُنَّ عُثْمَانَ وَمَا زَوَّجْتُهُ إِلَّا بِوَحْيٍ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ» ، وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَقِيَ عُثْمَانَ عِنْدَ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَقَالَ: «يَا عُثْمَانُ، هَذَا جِبْرِيلُ يُخْبِرُنِي أَنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ زَوَّجَكَ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ عَلَى مِثْلِ صَدَاقِ رُقْيَةَ وَعَلَى مِثْلِ صُحْبَتِهَا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood at the grave of his second daughter, who had been married to Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and said: "Listen, is there no father of a widow? Is there no brother of a widow? Uthman married her, and if I had ten daughters I would have married them all to Uthman, and I did not make this marriage except by revelation from the heavens." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) met Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) at the door of the mosque and said: "O Uthman, this is Jibril telling me that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has married you to Umm Kulthum for the same dowry as Ruqayyah's dowry, and on the same kind of companionship."
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ الْقَاضِي، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَخِي، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَتِيقٍ، ويَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ، «رَأَى عَلَى أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بُرْدَ حَرِيرٍ سِيَرَاءَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw Sayyidah Umm Kulthum bint Rasulullah (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing a striped silk cloak.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ الْأَهْوَازِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَحْرٍ، ثنا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِيِّ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّهُ «رَأَى عَلَى زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بُرْدًا سِيَرَاءَ مِنْ حَرِيرٍ» قَالَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ: هَكَذَا رَوَاهُ مَعْمَرٌ عَلَى زَيْنَبَ وَوَهِمَ فِيهِ، وَالصَّوَابُ أُمُّ كُلْثُومٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw Sayyidah Zaynab bint Rasulullah (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing a striped silk cloak.
Imam al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ma'mar narrated it like this about Sayyidah Zaynab, and he made an error in it; the correct version is that it is about Sayyidah Umm Kulthum.
