Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) come out in the midday heat carrying a short spear, and he planted it; then he stood to give the call to prayer, put his fingers in his ears and began turning his head this way and that, to the right and to the left, until he finished his adhan. Then he went in to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and brought out the water left over from the ablution, and the people set about taking it and being sprinkled with it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out wearing a red suit of clothes; it is as if I am now looking at the whiteness of his (peace and blessings be upon him) shins beneath it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed facing the spear while women in howdahs on their mounts were passing in front of him (peace and blessings be upon him).
These are the words of Abu Bilal's narration.
