حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ: «مَسَحَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى نَاصِيَتِهِ وَعِمَامَتِهِ , وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ» وَأَنَا شَاهِدٌ ذَلِكَ
Amr bin Wahb al-Thaqafi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped over his forelock and his turban, and he also wiped over his leather socks, and I was an eyewitness to it."
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سَيَّارٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثَنَا عمرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ، ثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ: خَصْلَتَانِ لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُمَا أَحَدًا بَعْدَ أَنْ شَهِدْتُهُمَا مَعَ رَسُولِ الله صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: الْمَسْحُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ , وَصَلَاةُ إِمَامٍ خَلْفَ بَعْضِ رَعِيَّتِهِ , كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ فِي سَفَرٍ فَنَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلًا فَتَبَرَّزَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِبَعْضِ حَاجَتِهِ , فَلَمَّا قَضَى حَاجَتَهُ أَتَيْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمَّيْنِ , فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَاصِيَتِهِ , وَعَلَى عِمَامَتِهِ , وَعَلَى خُفَّيْهِ , ثُمَّ أَتَيْنَا الْقَوْمَ وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ وَقَدْ قَدَّمَ الْقَوْمُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ , فَأَدْرَكْنَا مَعَهُمْ رَكْعَةً , فَقَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الرَّكْعَةَ الْأُخْرَى "
Amr bin Wahb al-Thaqafi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There are two matters about which I do not ask anyone after having witnessed them with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): wiping over the leather socks, and the imam (ruler) praying behind one of his subjects. We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey, and we stopped at a place, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went off to relieve himself. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished, I brought him (peace and blessings be upon him) water, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution - he (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a cloak with tight sleeves - so he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought his hand out from beneath the cloak and wiped over his forelock, his turban and his leather socks. Then we came to the people while they were praying, and the people had put Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) forward (to lead), and we caught one rak'ah with them; then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the remaining rak'ah.
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ ثَوْرٍ الْجُذَامِيُّ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، ثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ، ثَنَا الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ: انْتَهَيْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ , فَتَأَخَّرَ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَصَلَّيْنَا مَا أَدْرَكْنَا وَقَضَيْنَا مَا سُبِقْنَا "
Amr bin Wahb al-Thaqafi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I reached Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) together with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he began to step back, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) signalled to him (to remain in front). So we prayed (with him) what we caught, and we completed (afterwards) what we had missed.
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ، ثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ، قَالَا , ثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ سَوَّارٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ , فَلَمَّا كَانَ السَّحَرُ ضَرَبْتُ رَاحِلَتِي فَأَقْبَلْتُ مَعَهُ فَانْطَلَقَ حَتَّى تَغَيَّبَ عَنِّي , ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ: «حَاجَتَكَ؟» , فَقُلْتُ: مَا لِي مِنْ حَاجَةٍ , قَالَ: «مَعَكَ مَاءٌ؟» قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ , فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ حَتَّى أَدْرَكَ النَّاسَ وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ , وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ يَؤُمُّهُمْ , فَتَحَرَّكَ لِجِيئَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنِ اثْبُتْ , فَصَلَّيْنَا مَا أَدْرَكْنَا , وَقَضَيْنَا مَا فَاتَنَا "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey. When it was the time of suhur (before dawn), I urged my mount on and went forward with him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) went off until he disappeared from my sight, then came back and said: "Do you need anything?" I said: I have no need. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have water with you?" I said: Yes. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks, then went on until he reached the people while they were praying, and Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) was leading them. At the arrival of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him)) moved (to step back), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) signalled with his hand to Abd al-Rahman to stay where he was (and continue the prayer). So we prayed what we caught, and we completed what we had missed.
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الرَّازِيُّ، ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْأَحْمَرُ، ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ وَهْبٍ - أَوِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ: خَصْلَتَانِ لَنْ أَدَعَهُمَا: أَنْ أَمْسَحَ عَلَى خُفِّي , وَأَنْ أُصَلِّيَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ رَعِيَّتِي , وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ وَصَلَّى خَلْفَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ "
It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: There are two things I will never give up: that I wipe over my leather sock, and that I pray behind a man from among my subjects; for I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over the leather socks and praying behind Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him).
حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ، ثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ حَبِيبٍ، وَهِشَامٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَزِيزٍ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ، ثَنَا غَسَّانُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، وَأَيُّوبَ، وَحَبِيبِ بْنِ الشَّهِيدِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ: «صَبَبْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ , وَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَذِرَاعَيْهِ , وَمَسَحَ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ وَعَلَى الْعِمَامَةِ وَالْخُفَّيْنِ»
It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I poured water for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his hands, rinsed his mouth and sniffed water into his nose, washed his face and forearms, and wiped over his forelock, his turban and his leather socks.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، ثَنَا نُعَيْمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حُصَيْنٍ الْقَاضِي، ثَنَا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ، قَالَا , ثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ثَنَا عَوْفٌ، وَهِشَامٌ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ وَهْبٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ، أَنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ «مَسَحَ عَلَى نَاصِيَتِهِ , وَعَلَى عِمَامَتِهِ , وَعَلَى خُفَّيْهِ»
It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped over his forelock, his turban and his leather socks.
حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَر بْن أَحْمَد بْن سِنَان الْوَاسِطِيُّ، وَالْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ حِمْدَانَ الْحَنَفِيُّ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ قَالَا , ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَحْرَانِيُّ، ثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَخُو أَبِي حُرَّةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، أَنَّهُ أَفْرَغَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ سَطِيحَةٍ , قَالَ: فَتَوَضَّأَ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ , وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ شَامِيَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمِّ , أَخْرَجَ يَدَيْهِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا وَمَسَحَ عَلَى عِمَامَتِهِ وَخُفَّيْهِ , وَأَتَيْنَا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي وَقَدْ صَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً , فَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَهُ الرَّكْعَةَ الَّتِي أَدْرَكْنَا وَقَضَيْنَا الرَّكْعَةَ الَّتِي سُبِقْنَا "
It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he poured water for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from a water-skin. He said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and washed his face - he (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a Syrian cloak with a tight sleeve - so he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought out his hands and washed them, and wiped over his turban and his leather socks. Then we came to Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was leading the prayer and had already led them in one rak'ah, so we prayed with him the rak'ah that we caught, and we completed the rak'ah that we had missed.
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْلَمُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ الْعَدَوِيُّ، ثَنَا سَلَّمُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ أَبُو هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حُرَّةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ وَالْعِمَامَةِ "
It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks and turban.
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثَنَا عَارِمٌ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ يُكْنَى أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ , عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ هَلْ أَمَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ سِوَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ , كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرِ كَذَا وَكَذَا , فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ السَّحَرِ ضَرَبَ عُنُقَ رَاحِلَتِي فَمَالَ وَمِلْتُ مَعَهُ , فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ: «يَا مُغِيرَةُ حَاجَتَكَ» , قُلْتُ: لَيْسَ لِي حَاجَةٌ , قَالَ: «هَلْ مِنْ مَاءٍ؟» فَدَعَا بِإِدَاوَةٍ أَوْ سَطِيحَةٍ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ يَحْسِرُ عَنْ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَضَاقَتْ كُمُّ جُبَّةٍ شَامِيَّةٍ كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ , فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَيْهِ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ , وَمَسَحَ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ , وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ , قَالَ: ثُمَّ انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى النَّاسِ وَقَدْ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ وَقَدْ أَمَّهُمْ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ وَقَدْ صَلَّى بِهِمُ رََكْعَةً، فَذَهَبْتُ أُوذِنُهُ فَنَهَانِي , فَصَلَّيْنَا الَّذِي أَدْرَكْنَا , وَقَضَيْنَا الَّذِي سُبِقْنَا "
Amr bin Wahb al-Thaqafi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him): Did anyone of the Companions other than Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) lead the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in prayer? He said: Yes. I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on such-and-such a journey. When it was the time of suhur (before dawn), he (peace and blessings be upon him) struck the neck of my mount (with his hand); then he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned aside (from the road), and I turned aside with him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) relieved himself, then said: "O Mughirah! Do you need anything?" I said: I have no need. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there any water?" So he (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a small vessel or a water-skin, washed his hands and his face, then went to bare his forearms, but the sleeve of the Syrian cloak he (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing was tight, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought his hands out from beneath the cloak and washed them, wiped his forelock, and wiped over the leather socks. He said: Then we reached the people, and the prayer had already begun, and Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) was leading them and had already led them in one rak'ah. I went to inform him of the arrival of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but he (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped me. So we prayed what we caught, and completed what we had missed.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، ثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، نَحْوَهُ
A similar hadith is also narrated from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him).
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ الْمَازِنِيُّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ الْقَزَّازُ قَالَا , ثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَفْرَغَ مَاءً فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ , فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَغْسِلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ شَامِيَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمَّيْنِ , فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَيْهِ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ , وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَعَلَى عِمَامَتِهِ وَخُفَّيْهِ "
It is narrated from Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) poured out water, washed his hands, then washed his face. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to wash his forearms, he (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a Syrian cloak with tight sleeves, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought his hands out from beneath the cloak and washed his forearms, then wiped his forelock and wiped over his head, his turban and his leather socks.
