حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ «فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرْثَدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ»
Urwah narrates: Among the names of those who took part in Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was Marthad bin Abi Marthad al-Ghanawi.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، قَالَ: «بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرْثَدَ بْنَ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ الْغَنَوِيَّ حَلِيفَ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ إِلَى حَيٍّ مِنْ هُذَيْلٍ، فَقُتِلَ فِيهَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ مَرْثَدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ»
Urwah narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Marthad bin Abi Marthad al-Ghanawi - the ally of Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib - to a clan of Hudhayl, and in that expedition, from among the Muslims, and then from among Banu Hashim, Marthad bin Abi Marthad was martyred.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَاصِمُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: قَدِمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ أُحُدٍ نَفَرٌ مِنْ عَضَلٍ وَالْقَارَةِ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ فِينَا إِسْلَامًا فَابْعَثْ مَعَنَا نَفَرًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِكَ يُفَقِّهُونَا فِي الدِّينِ، وَيُقْرِئُونَا الْقُرْآنَ، وَيُعَلِّمُوننَا شَرَائِعَ الْإِسْلَامِ، " فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَفَرًا سِتَّةً مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ: مَرْثَدَ بْنَ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ الْغَنَوِيَّ - حَلِيفَ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ - فَذَكَرَ الْقِصَّةَ قَالَ: وَأَمَّا مَرْثَدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ، وَخَالِدُ بْنُ الْبُكَيْرِ، وَعَاصِمُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ فَقَالُوا: وَاللهِ لَا نَقْبَلُ مِنْ مُشْرِكٍ عَهْدًا، وَلَا عَقْدًا أَبَدًا، فَقَاتَلُوهُمْ حَتَّى قَتَلُوهُمْ "
Asim bin Umar bin Qatadah narrates: After Uhud, some people from the tribes of Adal and al-Qarah came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Islam (has spread) among us, so send with us some of your Companions who will give us understanding of the religion, teach us to recite the Qur'an and teach us the laws of Islam. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent six of his Companions: Marthad bin Abi Marthad al-Ghanawi - the ally of Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib - (and others). The narrator related the whole story and said: As for Marthad bin Abi Marthad, Khalid bin al-Bukayr and Asim bin Thabit, they said: By Allah! We will never accept any covenant or any pact from a polytheist. So they kept fighting them until they (the enemy) martyred them.
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ هَارُونَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْمُسَيَّبِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُلَيْحٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، " فِي تَسْمِيَةِ مَنْ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ الرَّجِيعِ: مَرْثَدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ "
Ibn Shihab narrates: Among the names of those martyred on the day of al-Raji' was Marthad bin Abi Marthad al-Ghanawi.
