حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ السَّمَيْدَعِ الْأَنْطَاكِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الصُّورِيُّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ ضَمْضَمِ بْنِ زُرْعَةَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ مَعْدِي كَرِبٍ، وَأَبِي أُمَامَةَ، قَالَا: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْإِمَامُ إِذَا ابْتَغَى الرِّيبَةَ فِي النَّاسِ أَفْسَدَهُمْ»
Sayyiduna al-Miqdam bin Ma'di Karib and Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the ruler seeks out suspicion (and faults) among the people, he corrupts them."
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ ضَمْضَمِ بْنِ زُرْعَةَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «لَا يَكُونُ رَجُلٌ عَلَى قَوْمٍ إِلَّا جَاءَ يَقْدُمُهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ رَايَةٌ يَحْمِلُهَا، وَهُمْ يَتَّبِعُونَهُ فَيُسْأَلُ عَنْهُمْ وَيُسْأَلُونَ عَنْهُ»
Sayyiduna al-Miqdam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "No man is placed in authority over a people except that he will come on the Day of Resurrection leading them, carrying a banner in front of him, and they will follow him; then he will be asked about them and they will be asked about him."
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ ضَمْضَمِ بْنِ زُرْعَةَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ مَعْدِي كَرِبٍ، وَأَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، إِنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ فِي قَوْمِكَ فَأَوْصِهِمْ بِنَا، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: «أُذَكِّرُكُمُ اللهَ لَا تَبْغُوا عَلَى أُمَّتِي مِنْ بَعْدِي» ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِلنَّاسِ: «سَيَكُونُ مِنْ بَعْدِي أُمَرَاءُ، فَأَدُّوا طَاعَتَهُمْ، فَإِنَّ الْأَمِيرَ مِثْلُ الْمِجَنِّ يُتَّقَى بِهِ، فَإِنْ أَصْلَحُوا وَأَمَرُوكُمْ بِخَيْرٍ فَلَكُمْ وَلَهُمْ، وَإِنْ أَسَاؤُوا فِيمَا أَمَرُوكُمْ فَهُوَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَنْتُمْ مِنْهُ بَرَاءٌ، إِنَّ الْأَمِيرَ إِذَا اتَّبَعَ الرِّيبَةَ فِي النَّاسِ أَفْسَدَهُمْ»
Shurayh bin Ubayd (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna al-Miqdam bin Ma'di Karib and Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, this matter (of rule) is among your people, so instruct them regarding us." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "I remind you of Allah: do not transgress against my Ummah after me." Then he said to the people: "After me there will be rulers, so render your obedience to them, for the ruler is like a shield by which one is protected (from the enemy). If they act rightly and command you to do good, then it is for you and for them; and if they do wrong in what they command you, then it is upon them and you are free of it. Indeed, when the ruler pursues suspicion (and faults) among the people, he corrupts them."
