حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، أَخْبَرَنِي سَعْدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مَعْبَدًا قَالَ: كَانَ مُعَاوِيَةُ قَلَّمَا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَيَذْكُرُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ، يُكْثِرُ أَنْ يُحَدِّثَ بِهِنَّ فِي الْجُمَعِ: «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ، وَإِنَّ هَذَا الْمَالَ خَضِرٌ حُلْوٌ فَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِحَقِّهِ بُورِكَ لَهُ فِيهِ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالتَّمَادُحَ فَإِنَّهُ الذَّبْحُ»
Sa'd bin Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Ma'bad (may Allah have mercy on him) say: Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) very seldom narrated hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but these words he used to narrate frequently at the Friday gatherings: "When Allah intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion; and this wealth is green and sweet, so whoever takes it by its right is blessed in it; and beware of praising one another (flattery), for it is slaughter."
حَدَّثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ مَعْبَدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «الدُّنْيَا حُلْوَةٌ خَضِرَةٌ، فَمَنْ أَخَذَهَا بِحَقِّهَا بُورِكَ لَهُ فِيهَا»
Ma'bad al-Juhani narrates from Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This world is sweet and green, so whoever takes it by its right is blessed in it."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ أَبِي مُزَاحِمٍ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ مَعْبَدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ: كَانَ مُعَاوِيَةُ قَلَّمَا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «اتَّقُوا التَّمَادُحَ فَإِنَّهُ الذَّبْحُ»
Ma'bad al-Juhani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) very seldom narrated hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he said in his sermon: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Beware of praising one another (flattery), for it is slaughter."
حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى السَّاجِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، بُنْدَارٌ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ، عَنْ مَعْبَدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: «إِنَّكُمْ لَتُصَلُّونَ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ، لَقَدْ صَحِبْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَرَأَيْنَاهُ، فَمَا رَأَيْنَاهُ يُصَلِّي هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ» ، يَعْنِي الْعَصْرَ
Ma'bad al-Juhani narrates from Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "You pray this prayer, yet we kept the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and saw him, and we never saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) pray this prayer after the prayer," meaning after Asr.
