It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was coming out of the mosque, and the men and women had become mixed together on the road. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(O women!) Draw back, for it is not proper for you to walk in the middle of the road; keep to the sides of the road." So a woman would cling to the wall so closely that her garment would catch on something on the wall because of her clinging to it.

Hamzah bin Abi Usayd (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and some of his companions passed by us, and we went out with him (peace and blessings be upon him) until we reached a garden called al-Shawt. Then we reached two gardens and sat down between them, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sit here." The woman of the Jawn tribe had been brought and lodged apart in the house of Umaymah bint al-Harith bin Sharahil, and with her was her nurse. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went in, he said: "Give yourself to me." She said: Does a queen give herself to a commoner? He (peace and blessings be upon him) extended his hand towards her to place it on her, and she said: I seek refuge with Allah from you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have sought refuge with the One in whom refuge is sought." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us and said: "O Abu Usayd! Clothe her with two fine linen garments and take her back to her family."

Malik bin Hamzah bin Abi Usayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, from his grandfather Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib: "O Abu al-Fadl! Do not leave your house tomorrow, you and your sons, until I come to you." So they waited for him (peace and blessings be upon him) until he came after the forenoon. He went in to them and said: "As-salamu alaykum." He said: Wa alaykas-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How did you begin your morning?" He said: In good health, praise be to Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Come close, come close, come close," shuffling towards one another, until, when they had come close enough, he (peace and blessings be upon him) wrapped them in his sheet. Then he said: "O my Lord! This is my uncle and the full brother of my father, and these are the people of my household. Shield them from the Fire just as I have covered them with this sheet of mine." The narrator said: Then the threshold of the door and the walls of the house said Amin, saying: Amin, Amin, Amin.

Malik bin Hamzah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, from his grandfather Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi al-Khazraji (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: He had a well in Madinah called Bi'r Buda'ah, into which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had spat, and he would take glad tidings and blessing from it. The narrator said: When Abu Usayd cut the fruit of his garden, he put it in an upper room of his. A ghoul (a jinn) would come secretly to his upper room, steal his dates and spoil them. He complained of this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Usayd! That is the ghoul. Lie in wait for her, and when you hear her coming in, meaning the thud of her landing, say: In the name of Allah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has detained me." The ghoul said: O Abu Usayd! Excuse me from your making me go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I give you a covenant by Allah that I will neither come to your house nor steal your dates. And I will point you to a verse of the Book of Allah which you should recite over your house, and then no one will come against your family; and recite it over your vessel too, and we will not uncover its lid. So she gave the covenant with which he was satisfied, then said: The verse to which I am guiding you is Ayat al-Kursi. Then she went off rubbing her backside and breaking wind. When she had turned and gone, Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him the whole incident, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She spoke the truth, though she is a liar."
