حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: كَانَتْ مَنْزِلَةُ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْزِلَةَ صَاحِبِ الشُّرْطَةِ مِنَ الْأَمِيرِ
Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) held the same position with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) as the chief of police holds with a ruler.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، - لَا أَعْلَمُهُ إلَّا عَنْ أَنَسٍ - قَالَ: لَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَكَّةَ كَانَ قَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ فِي مُقَدِّمَتِهِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ بِمَنْزِلِةِ صَاحِبِ الشُّرْطَةِ فَكُلِّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي قَيْسٍ لِيَصْرِفَهُ عَنِ الْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي وَضَعَهُ بِهِ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ عَلَى شَيْءٍ، فَصَرَفَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ
When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Makkah, Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) was in front of him, ahead of his contingent, as chief of police. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was spoken to about Qays, that he should remove him from the place where he had put him, out of fear that he might rush ahead in some matter; so he removed him from it.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ رِشْدِينَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي ثَعْلَبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْقُرَظِيُّ، أَنَّ قَيْسَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ، وَكَانَ صَاحِبَ لِوَاءِ رَسُولِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرَادَ الْحَجَّ فَرَجَّلَ أَحَدَ شِقَّي رَأْسِهِ فَإِذَا هَدْيُهُ قَدْ قَلَّدَ فَأَهَلَّ وَحَلَّ شَقَّ الْأَخَرَ
Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the standard-bearer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), intended to perform Hajj. He combed one side of his head, then saw that his sacrificial animal had already been garlanded; so he raised the talbiyah and left the other side.
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، ثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ يَرِيمَ بْنِ أَسْعَدَ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ وَقَدْ خَدَمَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ، تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ فَمَا أَنْسَى أَثَرَ أُصْبُعِهِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ لأَنَّهُمَا جَدِيدَانِ
Yarim bin As'ad said: I was with Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), who had served the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for ten years. He performed ablution (wudu) and wiped over his leather socks, and I never forget the marks of his fingers on the socks, because they were new.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ، قَسَّمَ مَالَهُ بَيْنَ بَنِيهِ فِي حَيَاتِهِ، فَوُلِدَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ بَعْدَمَا مَاتَ فَلَقِيَ عُمَرُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ: مَا نِمْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ مِنْ أَجْلِ ابْنِ سَعْدٍ، هَذَا الْمَوْلُودُ وَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ لَهُ شَيْئًا، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: أَنَا وَاللهِ مَا نِمْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ أَو كَمَا قَالَ: مِنْ أَجْلِه، فَانْطَلِقْ بِنَا إِلَى قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ نُكَلِّمُهُ فِي أَخِيهِ فَأَتَيَاهُ فَكَلَّمَاه، فَقَالَ قَيْسٌ: أَمَّا شَيْءٌ أَمْضَاهُ سَعْدٌ فَلَا أَرُدُّهُ أَبَدًا، وَلَكِنْ أُشْهِدُكُمَا أَنَّ نَصِيبِي لَهُ
Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) divided his wealth among his sons during his lifetime; then, after his death, a son was born to him. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) met Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I could not sleep last night because of this newborn son of Sa'd, for nothing has been left for him. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, I too could not sleep last night - or as he said - because of him. Come, let us go to Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) and speak to him about his brother. So the two of them came to him and spoke to him, and Sayyiduna Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) said: As for what Sa'd has carried out, I will never take it back; but I make you both witnesses that my share is for this brother.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ، أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ، قَسَّمَ مَالَهُ بَيْنَ بَنِيهِ ثُمَّ تُوُفِّيَ وَامْرَأَتُهُ حُبْلَى لَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِحَبَلِهَا، فَوَلَدَتْ غُلَامًا فَأَرْسَلَ عُمَرُ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ فِي ذَلِكَ إِلَى قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ فَقَالَ: أَمَّا أَمْرٌ قَسَمَهُ سَعْدٌ وَأَمْضَاهُ فَلَنْ أَعُودَ فِيهِ، وَلَكِنْ نَصِيبِي لَهُ قُلْتُ: أَعْلَى كِتَابِ اللهِ قَسَّمَ؟ قَالَ: لَا نَجِدُهُمْ كَانُوا يَقْسِمُونَ إِلَّا عَلَى كِتَابِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Ata' (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) divided his wealth among his sons, then passed away while his wife was pregnant and he did not know of her pregnancy. She gave birth to a son, and Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) sent word about this to Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: As for a matter that Sa'd divided and carried out, I will never go back on it; but my share will be for this newborn. (Ibn Jurayj said:) I asked (Ata'): Did he divide it according to the Book of Allah? He said: We have only ever found them dividing according to the Book of Allah.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، أَنَّ ذَكْوَانَ أَبَا صَالِحٍ أَخْبَرَهُ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ خَبَرَ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ انْهُ قَسَّمَ مَالَهُ بَيْنَ بَنِيهِ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ إِلَى الشَّامِ فَمَاتَ
Dhakwan Abu Salih related this report, the report of Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), that (Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him)) divided his wealth among his sons, then set out for Syria (al-Sham) and died there.
