Sayyiduna Farwah bin Musayk (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, shall I fight, with those of my people who have come forward (to Islam), those of them who have turned away? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Then, when he was about to leave, he called him back and said: "First invite them to Islam; if they refuse, then fight them." I said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me about Saba: was it a man or a woman? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He was a man of the Arabs who had ten sons. Six of them turned towards Yemen and four towards Sham. Those who turned towards Yemen were al-Azd, Kindah, Madhhij, the Ash'ariyyun, Himyar, and Anmar (from whom are Bajilah); and those who turned towards Sham were Amilah, Ghassan, Lakhm and Judham."

Sayyiduna Farwah bin Musayk (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, we have some neighbours in Saba who are people of might, kingship and power. So permit me to invite them to Islam, and if they refuse, permit me to fight them with my people and those who obey me. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) changed his mind and said: "As for what you mentioned about Saba, first invite them to Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and hold back from them; and if they refuse, do not confront them until my order comes to you." He said: O Messenger of Allah, what is Saba, a land or a woman? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Neither a land nor a woman, but a man who had ten tribes. Six of them turned towards Yemen and four towards Sham. The Yemeni tribes are Madhhij, al-Azd, Kindah, Himyar, the Ash'ariyyun, and Anmar." A man said: O Messenger of Allah, what is Anmar? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is the father of Bajilah and Khath'am. And those who turned towards Sham are four: Lakhm, Judham, Ghassan and Amilah."

Sayyiduna Farwah bin Musayk al-Muradi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, shall I not fight those of my people who have turned away with those of them who have come forward? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Certainly." Then I changed my mind and said: O Messenger of Allah, no; rather the people of Saba are mightier and stronger. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me and permitted me to fight Saba. When I left him, Allah revealed concerning Saba what He revealed, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What has the Ghatafani done?" So he sent to my house, found that I had already set out, and called me back. When I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I found him sitting among his Companions, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Invite the people; whoever of them responds to you, accept it from him, and whoever refuses, do not hasten until you have spoken with me." A man among the people said: O Messenger of Allah, what is Saba? A land or a woman? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Neither a land nor a woman; rather he was the father of ten sons of the Arabs. Six of them turned towards Yemen and four towards Sham. Those who turned towards Sham were Lakhm, Judham, Amilah and Ghassan; and those who turned towards Yemen were al-Azd, Kindah, Himyar, the Ash'ariyyun, Anmar and Madhhij." A man said: O Messenger of Allah, what is Anmar? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are the people from whom are Bajilah and Khath'am."

Sayyiduna Farwah bin Musayk al-Muradi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Did you dislike the two (battle) days of your (tribe) and the two days of Hamdan?" I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah, because of the destruction of family and clan. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Listen, it is better for those of you who remain."

(Sayyiduna Farwah (may Allah be pleased with him)) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about Saba: O Messenger of Allah, what is Saba? A man, a mountain or a valley? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather he was a man who had ten sons. Four turned towards Sham and six towards Yemen. Those who turned towards Sham were Lakhm, Judham, Amilah and Ghassan; and those who turned towards Yemen were Himyar, Madhhij, al-Azd, Kindah, the Ash'ariyyun and Anmar, from whom are Bajilah."
