Sayyiduna al-Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us an admonition from which the hearts became fearful and the eyes shed tears. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is as if this is the admonition of one bidding farewell, so take a covenant from us." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hold fast to the fear of Allah, and to listening and obeying, even if he is an Abyssinian slave. Whoever among you lives after me will see much disagreement. So hold fast to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs; bite onto it with your molar teeth. And beware of newly invented matters; every newly invented matter is misguidance."

Sayyiduna al-Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the Musabbihat (the surahs that begin with "Sabbaha" or "Yusabbihu") before sleeping, and he said: "Among them is a verse that is better than a thousand verses."

Sayyiduna al-Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The martyrs and those who died (a natural death) on their beds will dispute before our Lord concerning those who died in the plague. The martyrs will say: 'These are our brothers; they were killed (by the plague) just as we were killed.' And those who died on their beds will say: 'These are our brothers; they died just as we died on our beds.' Then Allah Almighty will judge between them and will say: 'Look at the wounds of those who died of the plague; if they resemble the wounds of the martyrs, then they are among the martyrs and with them.' So they will look at the wounds of those who died of the plague, and they will resemble the wounds of the martyrs, and so they will be joined with them."
