Abu al-Fayd said: I was present with Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he gave al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) a donkey. Then one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who was called al-Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him), stood up and said: "You have no right to take it, and Mu'awiyah has no right to give it to you. It is as if I can see you on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on your neck, with its head hanging down."

Sayyiduna al-Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) was an aged elder among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he loved that Allah Almighty should take him to Himself (soon), so he used to supplicate: "O Allah, my age has grown great and my bones have become weak, so take me to Yourself." Sayyiduna al-Irbad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: One day, while I was in the mosque of Damascus, a most handsome young man appeared before me, wearing a green cloak. He asked: "What is this supplication that you are making?" I said: "My nephew, how should I supplicate?" He said: "Say: 'O Allah, make (my) deeds good and bring (me) to the appointed term.'" I asked: "Who are you, may Allah have mercy on you?" He said: "I am Riba'il, who removes grief from the hearts of the believers."
