It is narrated from Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The martyrs and those who died of the plague will come (on the Day of Resurrection), and those who died of the plague will say: We too are martyrs. It will be said: Look; if their wounds are flowing with blood like the wounds of the martyrs and giving off the fragrance of musk, then they are martyrs. And they will find them to be so."

Shurayh bin Ubayd said: Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abd al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It was the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when a man came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) bearing a name that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not like, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would change it. Seven of us men from Banu Sulaym came to him (peace and blessings be upon him), the eldest of us being Sayyiduna al-Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and we all pledged allegiance to him (peace and blessings be upon him) together.
