It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin al-Ahwas (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "Listen! Which day is the most sacred?" The people said: The day of the Greater Hajj. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Listen! Your blood, your wealth and your honour are sacred among you, just like the sanctity of this day of yours, this city of yours and this month of yours. Listen! The burden of a wrongdoer's crime falls only on himself. Listen! Neither is a father (held to account) for the crime of his child, nor a child for the crime of his father. Listen! Satan has despaired of ever being worshipped in this city, but he will find obedience to himself in those deeds of yours which you consider insignificant, and he will be content with that. Listen! All the blood (claims) of the Jahiliyyah have been remitted, and the first blood that I remit is the blood of al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib, who was being nursed among Banu Layth when the tribe of Hudhayl killed him." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said three times: "Listen, O my Ummah! I have conveyed (the message)." Then he said three times: "O Allah, bear witness."
