Qays bin Abbad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I was in a gathering in which Sa'd bin Malik and Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) were present. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by, and they said: "This is a man of the people of Paradise." I followed him and said to him: "They said such-and-such." He said: "Subhan Allah! They should not say something of which they have no knowledge. The actual matter is that I saw in a dream as though a pillar was placed in a green garden and erected there; in its middle there was a ring, and at its bottom there was a servant like a young servant. I was told: 'Climb it.' So I climbed it, then I took hold of the ring. I related this dream to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Abdullah bin Salam will die while holding fast to the firmest handhold.'"

Qays bin Abbad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I entered the mosque of Madinah, and a man came and prayed two light rak'ahs; there were signs of humility upon him. A man said: "Whoever would like to look at a man of the people of Paradise, let him look at this man." I followed him and told him this, and he said: "Subhan Allah! No one should say something of which he has no knowledge, and I will tell you why this was said: I saw a dream and related it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw as though I was in a garden" — then he mentioned its vastness, beauty and greenery — "in its middle was a pillar of iron, its lower part in the earth and its upper part in the sky, and at its top was a ring. I was told: 'Climb.' I said: 'I cannot climb.' Then a helper came to me, took hold of my clothes - that is, from behind me - and pushed me upwards, then said: 'Hold on firmly.' I woke up and the ring was still in my hands. I related this dream to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'The garden is Islam, the pillar is the pillar of Islam, and the ring is the firmest handhold (al-'urwah al-wuthqa); so you are upon Islam.'" And that man was Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him).
