Qays bin Abbad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I entered the mosque of Madinah, and a man came and prayed two light rak'ahs; there were signs of humility upon him. A man said: "Whoever would like to look at a man of the people of Paradise, let him look at this man." I followed him and told him this, and he said: "Subhan Allah! No one should say something of which he has no knowledge, and I will tell you why this was said: I saw a dream and related it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw as though I was in a garden" — then he mentioned its vastness, beauty and greenery — "in its middle was a pillar of iron, its lower part in the earth and its upper part in the sky, and at its top was a ring. I was told: 'Climb.' I said: 'I cannot climb.' Then a helper came to me, took hold of my clothes - that is, from behind me - and pushed me upwards, then said: 'Hold on firmly.' I woke up and the ring was still in my hands. I related this dream to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'The garden is Islam, the pillar is the pillar of Islam, and the ring is the firmest handhold (al-'urwah al-wuthqa); so you are upon Islam.'" And that man was Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him).
