Bilal, the son of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), narrates that one day his father said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not prevent women from (coming to) the mosques, which is their right." I said: As for me, I will prevent my family; whoever wishes may let his family go (to the mosque). At that he turned to me and said: "May Allah curse you, may Allah curse you, may Allah curse you! You hear me say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that they not be prevented, and you say this?" Then he wept and stood up angrily.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not prevent women from coming to the mosques, which is their right, when they ask your permission." At that Bilal said: By Allah, we will certainly prevent them. So Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O enemy of Allah! I say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said this, and you say that we will certainly prevent them?"
