Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited this verse: "This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you" [Surah al-Ma'idah: 3] to the end of the verse. A Jew was present with him at the time, and he said: "If this verse had been revealed to us, we would have taken that day as a festival (Eid)." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "This verse was revealed on a day of two festivals: Friday and the Day of Arafah."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: I was with my father in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) there was a man who was speaking to him in private, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) seemed to be turning away from my father. So when we left him, my father said to me: "Did you not see how your cousin seemed to be turning away from me?" I said to him: "Father! There was a man with him speaking to him in private." He said: "Was there someone with him?" I said: "Yes." So we went back, and he said: "O Messenger of Allah! I said such-and-such to Abdullah, and he replied to me such-and-such; was there someone with you?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes; and did you see him, O Abdullah?" I said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That was Jibril (peace be upon him); it was he who kept me occupied from you."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a dream one day at midday; he (peace and blessings be upon him) was dishevelled and covered in dust, and in his (peace and blessings be upon him) hand was a flask containing blood. I said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! What is this?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the blood of Husayn and his companions; I have been gathering it continuously since earlier today." The narrator said: Then that day was reckoned, and it was found that he (Husayn, may Allah be pleased with him) had been martyred on that very day.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated, as Abu Salamah thought, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned Sayyidah Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her), and that her father was reluctant to marry her to him (peace and blessings be upon him). So Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) prepared food and drink and invited her father and some people of Quraysh, and they ate and drank. Then Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to her father: "Muhammad bin Abdullah is proposing marriage to me; get up and marry me to him." So he married her to him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) applied perfume to him and dressed him in a robe, for this is what people used to do with fathers when they married off their daughters. When his intoxication wore off, he saw that he was perfumed and wearing a robe, and said: "What is the matter with me?" Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "You have married me to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: "I married you to the orphan of Abu Talib? Never, by my life!" At this Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Are you not ashamed? Do you want to make yourself look foolish, telling Quraysh and the people that you were drunk?" She kept persuading him until he was satisfied.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated, as Hammad thought, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her): "I hear a voice and see a light, and I fear that some derangement may have afflicted me." Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Allah would never do that to you, O son of Abdullah!" Then she went to Waraqah bin Nawfal and told him about it, and he said: "If he is truthful, then this is the Namus (the angel of revelation) like the one who came to Musa (peace be upon him); and if he is sent as a prophet while I am alive, I will surely support him, help him and assist him."

When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had the pulpit made and moved to it, the trunk began to make a sound; he (peace and blessings be upon him) embraced it and it became quiet, and he said: "Had I not embraced it, it would have kept crying like this until the Day of Resurrection."

Ammar bin Abi Ammar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "How old was the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day he passed away?" He said: "I did not expect that this would be hidden from someone like you." I said: "I asked about it and received differing answers, so I wanted to know your view on it." He said: "Can you count?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Take forty years, at (the age of) which he (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent as a prophet; and fifteen years of his stay in Makkah, during which he (peace and blessings be upon him) was at times in safety and at times in fear; and ten years (of his stay) in Madinah after the emigration."
