حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «كَانَ يَخْطُبُ إِلَى جِذْعٍ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَّخِذَ الْمِنْبَرَ، فَلَمَّا اتَّخَذَ الْمِنْبَرَ، وَتَحَوَّلَ إِلَيْهِ حَنَّ الْجِذْعُ فَاحْتَضَنَهُ فَسَكَنَ» ، وَقَالَ: «لَوْ لَمْ أَحْتَضِنْهُ لَحَنَّ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that before having the pulpit made, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver the sermon standing against a palm trunk. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had the pulpit made and moved to it, the trunk began to make a sound; he (peace and blessings be upon him) embraced it and it became quiet, and he said: "Had I not embraced it, it would have kept crying like this until the Day of Resurrection."
