Za'idah bin Umayr al-Ta'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "What is your view on coitus interruptus ('azl)?" He said: "If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said something about it, then that is what counts; otherwise I say about it: 'Your wives are a tilth for you, so come to your tilth however you wish' [Al-Baqarah: 223]. Whoever wishes may practise 'azl, and whoever wishes may leave it."
