Ibn Abi Mulaykah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I wrote to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asking him about two women who used to stitch leather. One of them came out and claimed that her companion had struck her with an awl, while the other denied it. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) wrote to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had ruled: "The oath is upon the one against whom the claim is made. If people were given according to their claims, some people would claim the wealth and the blood of others. But call her (that is, the defendant)." So recite this verse to her: "Indeed, those who sell the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price, they will have no share in the Hereafter" [Al Imran: 77]. Ibn Abi Mulaykah said: So I did that, and she confessed. When this reached Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he was pleased with it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out of the toilet and food was presented to him (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty will call people on the Day of Resurrection by their names, as a covering from Him over His servants. As for the Bridge (al-Sirat), Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will give every believing man a light, every believing woman a light, and every hypocrite a light as well. Then, when they are all upon the Sirat, Allah will take away the light of the hypocrite men and hypocrite women. The hypocrites will say: 'Wait for us, so that we may take some light from your light' [Al-Hadid: 13], and the believers will say: 'Our Lord, perfect our light for us' [Al-Tahrim: 8]. At that time no one will remember anyone."

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O boy, guard (the rights of) Allah and He will guard you. Guard (the rights of) Allah and you will find Him before you. Recognise Allah in times of ease and He will recognise you in times of hardship. Know that what has reached you was not going to miss you, and what has missed you was not going to reach you. Know that if all of creation gathered together to give you something that Allah did not wish to give you, they would not be able to do it; or to turn away from you something that Allah intended to befall you, they would not be able to do that either. So when you ask, ask of Allah; and when you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that victory comes with patience, relief comes with distress, and indeed with hardship comes ease. And know that the Pen has already written all that is to be."
