Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered a garden belonging to one of the Ansar and began picking fresh dates and eating them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was walking and I was with him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to me and said: "O Ibn Abbas, do not eat with two fingers, for that is the way Satan eats; eat with three fingers."
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I do not know of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) making a special point of fasting any day for the sake of its virtue except this day, that is, the day of Ashura, or the month of Ramadan.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) as a marfu' report that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No day has virtue over another day except the month of Ramadan and the day of Ashura."
