Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the morning and the evening, he would make this supplication: "O Allah! You are the most worthy of being remembered and the most worthy of giving. You are the King, You have no partner; You are the One, You never perish; everything will perish except Your Face. You are not obeyed except by Your permission, and You are not disobeyed except with Your knowledge. You are obeyed and You appreciate it, and You are disobeyed and You forgive. You are the nearest Witness and the closest Guardian. You stand in the way of the frontiers (thughur), You have taken hold of the forelocks, You have written down the traces (of deeds), and You have fixed the appointed terms of death. Hearts are open to You, and what is secret is manifest to You. The lawful is what You have made lawful, the unlawful is what You have made unlawful, the religion is what You have ordained, and the command is what You have decreed. The creation is Your creation, and the servant is Your servant, and You are Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Merciful. I ask You by the light of Your Face by which the heavens and the earth were illuminated, by every right that is Yours, and by the right of those who ask of You, that You accept me this morning or this evening, and that You save me from the Fire by Your power."
