Abu al-Ja'd, the freed slave of Banu Dubay'ah, narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from the People of the Suffah died and left behind one dinar, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One brand." Then another man died and left behind two dinars, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Two brands."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I bought the share of so-and-so and made such-and-such a profit on it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of something that brings greater profit than that?" He said: Is there such a thing to be found? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man who learns verses." So he went and learned ten verses, then came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us while a man was giving an exhortation, and the man fell silent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Carry on. That I should sit in this place from the time I pray the Fajr prayer until the sun rises is dearer to me than freeing four slaves, and that I should sit from the time I pray until the sun sets is also dearer to me than freeing four slaves."
