Sayyiduna Shaddad bin al-Had (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us for one of the two daytime prayers, Zuhr or Asr, while carrying Sayyiduna al-Hasan or Sayyiduna al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both). He (peace and blessings be upon him) went forward and placed him beside his right foot. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a prostration and prolonged it. I raised my head from among the people and saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in prostration and the child was riding on his (peace and blessings be upon him) back, so I went back into prostration. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, the people said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), in this prayer of yours you made a prostration that you never used to make before. Were you commanded to do so? Or was revelation coming down to you?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of that happened; rather, my son (grandson) was riding on me, and I disliked hurrying him (off) until he had satisfied his wish."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Shaddad bin al-Had (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from the Bedouins came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), believed in him and followed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and said: "I will emigrate with you." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave his Companions instructions concerning him. When the battle of Khaybar - or he said Hunayn - took place, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) obtained some spoils of war. He (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed them and assigned a share for him as well. His (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions gave him the share that had been assigned to him, while he had been tending their riding animals. When he came, they handed it over to him, and he asked: "What is this?" The people said: "This is the share that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has assigned for you." He took it and brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Muhammad, what is this?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the share that I have assigned for you." He said: "It is not for this that I followed you; rather, I followed you so that I would be shot here - and he pointed to his throat - with an arrow, and die and enter Paradise." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you are true to Allah, Allah will make your wish come true." Then they stayed for a little while, and then they rose to fight the enemy. He was brought, being carried, having been struck by an arrow at the very place he had pointed to. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is this him?" The people said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He was true to Allah, so Allah made his wish come true." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shrouded him in his own cloak, then placed him in front and led his funeral prayer. Among what became apparent of his (peace and blessings be upon him) supplication for him was: "O Allah, this is Your servant; he went out emigrating in Your path and was killed as a martyr, and I am a witness over him."
