Abdur-Rahman bin al-Baylamani narrates: I was in Egypt when a man said to me: Shall I not direct you to a man from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? I said: Of course. So he pointed to a man (sitting) beside him. I asked: May Allah have mercy on you, who are you? He said: I am Surraq. I said: Subhan Allah! This name does not befit you, when you are one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) named me Surraq, so I will never give it up. I asked: Why did he (peace and blessings be upon him) name you Surraq? He said: A man from the desert came to sell two camels of his. I bought both of them from him and said to him: Come along, so that I may give you (the price). Then I went into my house, met my own need with the price of the two camels, and stayed hidden until I thought that the Bedouin must have left. Then I came out, and there was the Bedouin, still waiting. He seized me, took me before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him the whole story. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "What led you to do what you did?" I said: O Messenger of Allah, I met my need with their price. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then pay it." I said: I have nothing. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are Surraq (a great thief). O Bedouin, take him and sell him until you recover your right in full." So the people began to bid for him, and he would turn to them and ask: What do you want? They would say: We want to ransom him from you. The Bedouin said: By Allah! None of you is more in need of Allah than I am. Go, I have set you free.

It is narrated from a Companion named Surraq (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave judgement on the basis of one witness and an oath.
