Sayyiduna Suwayd bin Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We set out intending to go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Wa'il bin Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) was with us. An enemy of his seized him, and the people felt reluctant to swear an oath, so I swore that he was my brother, and he was let go. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: The people felt it a sin to swear an oath, while I swore that he was my brother. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You spoke the truth; a Muslim is the brother of a Muslim."
