Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Salman! Do you know what the day of Jumu'ah (Friday) is?" I said: It is the day on which your father - or he said: your fathers - was gathered. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, but I will tell you about the day of Jumu'ah: there is no Muslim who purifies himself, wears his best clothes, and puts on some of his family's perfume - if they have perfume, otherwise water will do - then comes to the mosque and remains silent until the imam comes out, then prays, except that this becomes an expiation for him for (the sins) between that Jumu'ah and the next Jumu'ah, provided the major sins are avoided, and that is for all time."
