Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to emigrate, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O uncle, stay where you are, for Allah Almighty will seal the emigration (hijrah) with you, just as He sealed prophethood with me."

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from one of his military expeditions on a hot day, and water was set out for him (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he could cool himself with it. Meanwhile Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) came, turned his back towards him (peace and blessings be upon him) and screened him (peace and blessings be upon him) with the cloak he was wearing. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who is this?" It was said: O Messenger of Allah, this is your uncle Abbas. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished, he raised both his hands until they became visible to us from above the cloak, and said: "O uncle, may Allah Almighty protect you and your offspring from the Fire."
