Abu Hazim said: I heard Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stand on his pulpit and lead the people in prayer while standing on the pulpit. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said the takbir on the pulpit, then bowed, then stepped back and prostrated at the foot of the pulpit, then went back up, and continued doing likewise until he completed his prayer. Then he turned to the people and said: "O people, I did this only so that you may follow me and learn my prayer."

Abu Hazim said: I heard Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) say: A cup was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) drank from it. The elders were on his (peace and blessings be upon him) left, and a boy, the youngest of the people, was on his right. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had drunk, he said: "O boy, will you permit me to give it to the elders?" He said: O Messenger of Allah, I will not prefer anyone over my share of what is left over from you (as a blessing). So he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave it to him.

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Some matter arose among the Ansar, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to them to make peace between them. Then he came back, and the prayer had already begun, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was leading the people in prayer, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed behind Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)."

Abu Hazim said: I saw the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), urinating while standing, like the urination of an old man that almost escapes him. Then he performed ablution (wudu) and wiped over his leather socks. I said to him: Will you not take them off? He said: "No, I have seen someone who was better than me wipe over them."

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) said that on the day of Khaybar the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tomorrow I will give this banner to a man at whose hands Allah will grant victory." The people spent the whole night wondering which of them would be given it. When morning came, they went early to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where is Ali?" The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah, he is here; his eyes are sore. He (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for him, applied his saliva to his eyes and prayed as Allah willed, and he recovered so that no pain remained in him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the banner and said: "Go forward." He said: O Messenger of Allah, shall I fight them until they become like us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Proceed calmly until you descend into their territory, then invite them to Islam, and tell them what is obligatory upon them of the right of Allah in it. For if Allah guides a single man through you, that is better for you than red camels."

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In Paradise there is a gate called al-Rayyan. On the Day of Resurrection it will be said: Where are those who fasted? Would you like to come to al-Rayyan? Whoever enters through it will never be thirsty. So they will all enter through it, and when the last of them has entered, it will be closed, and no one other than them will enter through it."
